Its ok, its a conclusion we reached together and both feel is right. we're just not to that point in our lives yet. We still talk and wish each other well, etc so the ring still has relatively good karma.

PM me if you have questions about the ring.

i saw my mom's mom this weekend for the first time since my mom's funeral and apparently her engagement ring and wedding band were supposed to go to my mom but since that isn't happening, now they go to me.

the engagement ring is pretty freaking amazing. i wish i had a picture. she told me though "i'm going to wear this until i die. so if you get married before i die you're gonna have to get another ring." she is so cute.

she told me (and i don't always believe my grandmother so this is all debatable probably) that the diamond itself is worth 20,000 (it is pretty freaking big). it kinda like this but not as elaborate around the diamond, just 4 tiny sapphires and i didn't really get a good look but i don't think that the metal had any engraving or anything - so def a lot more plain, but this is a similar style of ring:

it is over 100 years old. it was her husband's mothers engagement ring. and she died before my grandmother and her husband got married so he used that ring to propose to her in 1940.

i think it is so pretty. i wish i had the actual picture of it. i don't necessarily like the pic i posted THAT much just cause the ring is kinda busy, but this one is more simple. obviously i want her to be alive when i get married - so it is unlikely this will be my engagement ring but i'm just excited that i'm going to inherit such a cool piece of jewelry with so much history.

edit: i'm not sure the style. victorian? edwardian?

pics to come, G.O.D's ring is 1.05 asscher cut D, IF diamond center stone with very strong blue floresence, you can almost see it bluish in strong sunlight, flanked by 2 0.28ct each fancy yellow radiant cut diamonds. all 3 are bezel set in platinum and yellow gold, the ring is platinum with a comfort fit bend.

it's large and kinda chunky, which she loves. it was a big hit.

My engagement ring and wedding band! The engagement ring came from a local place here in Whiteville and the wedding band came from overstock.com. Love them both!

I don't post much anymore, but I keep wondering when I'll have the opportunity to post here. As of right now, the word "Yes" wont be coming out of my mouth anytime soon unless some drastic changes are made. I am practicing my "NO!" ohh well, not too worried about it just more focused on my career at the moment

i don't like the ones where the stone is surrounded by metal. the ones up in the prongs sparkle.

The ones in prongs also get in the way a lot more than the bezel set ones.

yea i kind of agree. i don't know how i feel about the second to last one and the very last i feel like isn't a good everyday ring...but the first 3 i love because they remind me of my gradnmothers rings...which i think are amazing. they aren't everyones taste though which i understand. the ring i get when my grandmother dies (that was supposed to go to my mom) is like...edwardian? i think...from googling? i don't know...i just love the old style. i'd never change it. even if i get it after i'm married as a right hand ring...i would never change it!!

Ha ha wat a dumb tradition. Nothing says loving like strip mines, slave labor, and guerilla warfare. if she into music, buy a instrument. if she into travel buy her some kidnapping insurance. if she into depression buy her a grave site.

^ well aren't you a barrel of joy...

Anywho, I posted a picture of my engagement ring on the previous page, and it's time for me to start looking at wedding bands to go with it. I could get the pave set band(s) that match(es) the setting of my ring, but those are very narrow, and I'd like the option of wearing the wedding band without the engagement ring sometimes. ie: going to the gym, skiing, camping, etc... I feel like just the itty bitty pave set band is almost too delicate by itself. I kind of prefer a channel set band by itself, but I am not sure how I feel about one of these paired with my engagement ring. Thoughts?

an example of the channel set band:

i love your ring. and i think that band would look fine with it.
honestly i think it may look a little better than with a pave set band.

imho of course

aea - when we bought my engagement ring (i picked it out, we shopped together) we also bought one of those bands to go with it. after trying them on together for a few weeks, i realized it looked rather one-sided and i decided i wanted another one to go on the other side...so my "wedding day present" was another band. this is the finished product - we had the rings all soldered together so that they would stay put and not slip around out of place. the rings are a little wide and it took me a month to get used to it, but now (almost 2yrs later) i don't even notice that it's a little wider than normal.

behold, cddweller's magnificent camera skills (and my crappy camera skills below that)

**edit, i just realized that the band you posted has diamonds all the way around. mine stop on the sides. diamonds only go around half the ring - and i actually like that better than the one you posted. if you aren't getting them soldered together, then the diamonds all the way around is a good thing. but if you are getting them soldered together, half a ring's worth of diamonds is really all you need (and it's cheaper!).

^ Pretty!

I'm opposed to diamonds. And I never wear jewelry. So it seems silly for me to have a diamond ring. But there's a lot to be said for the fact that a ring denotes whether you're taken or looking.

Also, blas and thumper, cool rings!
