page 23 says Ron Paul 2008
quoting the last post on the previous page since i dont want it to get lost:
Quote : | ""December 17, 2007
What a day! I am humbled and inspired, grateful and thrilled for this vast outpouring of support.
On just one day, in honor of the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, the new American revolutionaries brought in $6.04 million, another one-day record. The average donation was $102; we had 58,407 individual contributors, of whom an astounding 24,915 were first-time donors. And it was an entirely voluntary, self-organized, decentralized, independent effort on the internet. Must be the "spammers" I keep hearing about!
The establishment is baffled and worried, and well they should be. They keep asking me who runs our internet fundraising and controls our volunteers. To these top-down central planners, a spontaneous order like our movement is science-fiction. But you and I know it's real: as real as the American people's yearning for freedom, peace, and prosperity, as real as all the men and women who have sacrificed for our ideals, in the past and today.
And how neat to see celebrations all across the world, with Tea Parties from France to New Zealand. This is how we can spread the ideals of our country, through voluntary emulation, not bombs and bribes. Of course, there were hundreds in America.
As I dropped in on a cheering, laughing crowd of about 600 near my home in Freeport, Texas, I noted that they call us "angry." Well, we are the happiest, most optimistic "angry" movement ever, and the most diverse. What unites us is a love of liberty, and a determination to fix what is wrong with our country, from the Fed to the IRS, from warfare to welfare. But otherwise we are a big tent.
Said the local newspaper (http://www.thefacts.com/story.lasso?ewcd=36475b4d132fc0a1): "The elderly sat with teens barely old enough to vote. The faces were black, Hispanic, Asian and white. There was no fear in their voices as they spoke boldly with each other about the way the country should be. Held close like a deeply held secret, Paul has brought them out of the disconnect they feel between what they know to be true and where the country has been led."
Thanks also to the 500 or so who braved the blizzard in Boston to go to Faneuil Hall. My son Rand told me what a great time he had with you.
A few mornings ago on LewRockwell.com, I saw a YouTube of a 14-year-old boy that summed up our whole movement for me. This well-spoken young man, who could have passed in knowledge for a college graduate, told how he heard our ideas being denounced. So he decided to Google. He read some of my speeches, and thought, these make sense. Then he studied US foreign policy of recent years, and came to the conclusion that we are right. So he persuaded his father to drop Rudy Giuliani and join our movement.
All over America, all over the world, we are inspiring real change. With the wars and the spying, the spending and the taxing, the inflation and the credit crisis, our ideas have never been more needed. Please help me spread them https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate in all 50 states. Victory for liberty! That is our goal, and nothing less.
Sincerely,
Ron"" |

I am sick of the media shitting on Ron Paul just b.c he does not fit into the mainstream pre-packaged "status quo" candidates. His grassroots appeal his fucking huge and all we hear about is the typical partisan hack crap about "obama and drugs", "huckabee leading some arbitrary poll", "thompson hates confederate flags", etc. 12/17/2007 5:43:04 PM |

This man has balls of steel.
He's got the first link on Drudge today for quoting Sinclair Lewis in a FOX interview.
Asked about Huckabee's Christmas ad, part of his response was "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross."

Keep in mind that it's the primaries. The money - and organizational prowess of the parties - is divided, and some people wait until the general election to pay attention, much less donate.

There are a lot of editorials criticizing Ron Paul for not wanting to return money donated by some random white supremacist guy no one has ever even heard about.
Its talked about later in the video. Fox news is somewhat fair to him but there are a lot of editorials calling him a "neo-nazi".

why should paul return the money? Does that man not deserve the right to support a candidate? Has that man committed any crimes, other than ones against our sensibilities?

I have Paul in second on my list right now.
I think romney would just be a better leader, obviously because of his great credentials in turning businesses around, and understanding how markets work. He would also be the most likely of all candidates to know how to surround himself with truely brilliant people in areas that he is weak instead of giving positions to people that are just friends and donators (huckabee).
You may say that it sounds crazy that I could support someone like romney and then say I would support Paul ... but Ive been trying to find a second favorite, and I have listened alot to what he has to say. While I think some of Pauls statements are a little bit extreme (and some of his supporters), I think the root of his policy ideas do hit to the heart of what our constitution demands.
Plus, I cant really support to gulianni, and huckabee would never win the national election. 12/23/2007 6:49:46 PM |

Yeah, you have to realize that these guys dont always promise groups things when they get endorsements and money.
Many times, its just people supporting who they like best. However you cant say turn it around and say that the candidate is tied to those donators... nor does it mean they agree with or support their causes. 12/23/2007 8:01:25 PM |

romney's ability in private business does not always translate well to economic policy. running the federal government should be almost completely the opposite of running a corporation. the goal is not to expand and increase revenue, but to ensure fair markets and preserve the general welfare of the people.
We already have a HUGE problem with corporatism in washington (aka the military/industrial complex). The last thing we need is a president with MORE ties to the existing problem. He wouldn't reduce spending, he wouldn't change the status quo. Romney is all about continuing the course we are on (as are the rest of the non-ron candidates).
If you want what's in the best interest of the MARKET (that is, all business and all consumers), you'd want to remove federal subsidies in most industries, remove regulations, and open markets. 12/23/2007 8:14:49 PM |
robster All American 3545 Posts user info edit post |
I agree with what you said in some ways, and i totally understand that gov is not COMPLETELY like running a corporation ... But, in terms of efficiency of government and evaluating non performing peices of government, I think Romney would really shine in bringing down some of the current wasteful bureaucracy that we have.
Im also still not sold that Ron is totally electable by the general population, and that has to be considered when selecting a candidate.
Selecting a candidate and supporting a candidate are two different things though, I do accept.
I can say that I do like to see Ron getting more support nationally. I just wouldnt select him yet. 12/23/2007 8:48:22 PM |

True. Paul might be the first volley in a struggle to reclaim our love of liberty and smaller gov't.
He's going up against generations of public-school educated people..who have been taught how wonderful gov't is... how gov't, and not free markets, is the proper way to solve all problems.
It may take a few Ron Pauls, and perhaps an economic crisis to end the republican/democrat statist stranglehold on our country.12/24/2007 9:08:57 AM |

Yeah, opposing the Patriot Act and the horde of invasions into our civil liberties, the ever-expanding federal government, and so forth - just an act for the cameras. I mean, a real libertarian would totally change his core beliefs in order to make himself popular with whatever electorate he's running to represent...

Anybody who sacrifices national security interests because of his tunnel-vision view of what he thinks the Constitution is, is a nutjob dimwit. Fuck you if you think otherwise. So, anyone who opposes running the Constitution through the shredder in the interests of political expediency is a "nutjob fuckwit." Thank you for truly explaining to us what a "true conservative" stands for - it has been most enlightening.
I do wonder how you'd express your contempt for Benjamin Franklin, however, who gave us this familiar chestnut:

OK, time to play "learn to read and interpret quotes." Or maybe just learn to read.

Yes, because our civil liberties are really in the shredder.
If we all die in a Nuclear Holocaust because President Paul decides to go soft on Iran -- can't have any entangling alliances or intervention! -- well, at least we died free from limited uses of Federal Wiretaps! 12/24/2007 3:54:37 PM |
