Some of the stuff you can read on "the internet" is kinda small and blurry but that's the only issue I've had with that so far.

for page 23

i have a slightly off topic question. how many of you play this on a standard definition tv? How does it look through that?

The reason I ask is b/c I have an HD tv downstairs, but I know that most of my game time will be spent hooked up to my 54" standard "Big Screen". I know the HD will really make a difference in the wow factor of the graphics, but i still want to know how it looks on SD.

and i guess this really goes for all games on these systems in general

^^Nah, pretty much all that stuff is gone.

There is just so much amazing in this game. The amount of detail is really mind boggling. Make sure you all register on https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/ and link up your PSN/XBL ids.

Does the picture seem dark to anyone else? Maybe its just a preference but I had to adjust the brightness on mine. I have a 46" HD btw.

I have also had freezing issues.

sleeping revives your health, saves your game, moves the clock a few hours ahead. i don't think there's any other purpose for it.

and i signed up for the rockstar social club. how long does it take to link your gamertag to it?

I loved GTA III but got tired of the formula by the time San Andreas rolled around.

I felt they tried to do too much. I didn't feel like trying to find 300 hidden packages or doing the all the ambulance missions again or eat and work out right.

I'm glad to hear they've gotten rid of some of the needless activities in this game. I can't wait to pick it up.

I was completely turned off by all that extra crap in SA. It just felt like so much work, it was a real PITA.

Are hidden packages in this one? I haven't come across any yet...

you whip out your cell phone in the game and select 'multiplayer'. It is awesome (the online play, that is).

you have to shoot pigeons instead of find hidden packages

there are 200

it sounds more fun but still i hate reading an faq to find them all - no way i'd find them all myself

did anybody really try to find 100 packages in past games? i mean when i'd see a package (or a spraypaint spot in GTASA), i'd get it...but i never worried about getting all 100 of them...maybe if i had already beaten about everything else in the game i would just go around and cause havoc and occasionally pick up a package...if i had beaten almost everything and a few more packages would help me get a new weapon at my hideout or something i might look up a few online but i never really cared much about packages

i dunno, seems most of the nitpicking of the game or series that i've read in here is for really dumb reasons...but i guess this genre of game isnt for everyone

well if you are going for 100% completion it sucks - plus finding the hidden packages early can make you a bad ass

did you ever try to do the ambulance sidequest? - i would have to cheat to get through that shit and i never cheat

i always did some of the ambulance missions and firetruck missions and taxi missions and police missions

i dont think i ever did them well enough to get the perks (iirc get all the way to firetruck level 10, and you get a flamethrower at your house or something...do through level 10 ambulance and get body armor at house or something) but i did some of them

i dunno my main point is how is somebody going to dislike a game just because the game had more optional missions than you want to do?

well your right . . . but san andreas had way too much crap

i have to go eat a burger when my health is low or press x repeatedly at the gym so i can run faster

all that stuff added up and i just stopped playing due to disinterest

but yeah i guess i would have more fun playing if i didn't worry about trying to do everything in the game - its just my personality

Packages

Sprays
Ambulance
Taxi
etc.

The trick in San Andreas to do the ambulance, police, and firetruck missions was to drive out to one of the boondock towns and do them there. One in particular was only like 4 square blocks and had its own hospital and police station. You could make it to level 10 and never drive past those four blocks. I did that in just over an hour and raked in all the benefits. FTW!

i never went after the oysters though, or the tags. just didnt care much for those.

you have to shoot pigeons just look for them i guess - i haven't played the game yet

i'm sure there are really hard ones to find that you have to snipe or something

yeah i never even tried the extra mission in san andreas - i didn't play through much of it before getting tired - its one of the few highly rated ps2 games i don't own probly

ok look... in san andreas the side missions were the shit.

if you got through all of the firetruck missions, you would become FIREPROOF. I always did this one early.

I think you got extra health for the ambulance missions

can't remember about the cop missions (i never was any good at those)

The taxi cab missions give you nitrous in all of the taxi's.

and even if you did them in the small towns, you would still have to drive a good bit to get to some of the fires/sick people. it was easier though.

I play all my games on 3 different TVs.. one like 60" HDTV, one 32" SD, and one 19" SD, because one's in my room and that's where I usually keep it, one's a little better so I play there when I can, and the HDTV is in the living room so I try to keep my PS3 out of there. So far I only played GTA on the 32" SD, and I can barely read any of the text (which sucks, because I never played any other the other GTAs) but the picture is fine. Even in Assassin's Creed there wasn't a whole lot of difference in the HD and SD, except on my little 19" because well...that sucks.

"Gamers Furious About Grand Theft Auto 4 Glitch
April 29th, 2008 | Author: Andreas Hale

Amidst the hype of being the biggest video game release ever, Grand Theft Auto 4 was released to gamers across the country – but not without controversy. The controversy being spoken of, however, is not of the game’s content. Rather, the controversy is actually getting the game to work.

As many happy gamers took their copy of GTA4 home to play on their PS3 or Xbox 360, slowly forums began popping up with stories about the game “freezing.” This is a similar problem that Rockstar Games had with the release of Bully on the Xbox 360 last month.

Internet forums from Gamespot, IGN, Sony and Xbox lit aflame with rampant tales of the game freezing up both Xbox 360s and PS3s. At first, many thought there was a problem with the system but it appears that there is a glitch in the game that prevents players from playing longer than 5 minutes without freezing indefinitely.

Owners of the game are quite upset and have been flooding technical service lines with their frustrations. Unfortunately, there has yet to be an answer as to why the game is having this problem. It appears that it is not all of the GTA4 copies, but many copies are having this issue.

Rockstar has yet to release an official statement regarding the problem and gamers must wait even longer to finally get their hands on what could be the most hyped release in video game history. "

^ Yes, mine has frozen three times. Twice in the middle of driving and once when I paused the game, turned off the controller, came back hours later, and turned the controller back on. I have been able to play enough to beat 5-7 missions but it still sux when that happens

Is the special edition worth getting? That duffel bag looks kind of tiny, or maybe they just blew-up the image of the game next to it. Is that lock box durable?

This seems to be a different, more random problem. Mine's done it twice at seemingly random times, but on the plus side autosave means I didn't lose much.

The major issue on the boards seems to be a small percentage of people that can't even get past the opening cutscene.

How's it hooked up to the TV?

When I first got College Hoops, I was using the standard cables that came with the system, and the text was so small and blurry (particularly on the recruiting boards) that the legacy mode was virtually unplayable. Switched to component cables (still just doing SD), and got just enough improvement to make it worthwhile.

17.44 percent complete so far

I'm guessing the main story is probably 60-60 percent of the game

and the remainder is all the micellaneous stuff

are you dead set on a ps3 or are you deciding between that and 360?

I'm not saying ones better than the other, just that if you want to play online with people from here

its like a 85-15 split in favor of 360

I'm not deadset, but A.) I have more experience with the PS B.) I've never been able to fully enjoy the XboX controller. For some reason i just don't like it.

I'm not a fanboy at all, but I have a hard time believing the PS3 won't bounce back from its early faults and lack of games. Plus the blu-ray is an upside.
