the tunnel by asheville mall isn't sketch
i mean there's an ihop and waffle house in walking distance...i say that voids anything about it being sketch

Neither of them is sketchy. I mean, they might be really crappy hotels - I haven't stayed in them since I lived there. But, next to the tunnel is where a bunch of the restaurants are, you're only like a mile from the mall, etc. There might be some bums living in the tunnel or something, but that area is far less sketchy than what you'd find in large swathes of raleigh or elsewhere.

The room was clean, maids came by to see if we needed more towels like three times, my room had a nice flat screen tv (not plasma or anything, but flat screen), and it was only like $90. Lets put it this way, I've stayed in MUCH worse. For the price and proximity to everything downtown it's not bad at all. I've stayed off of tunnel road before and I wouldn't do that again." |

just got home from tonights show. it was totally awesome. I can only say 2 negative things: they didn't play 1979, which is a favorite of mine they didn't have overpriced merch in size double extra fatty, so I couldn't give them my $35.
I still might have one of my friends going to a later show grab me a shirt anyway to hang on a wall or whatever.

Well, I stand corrected on the distance thing, but I'm still not sure where the hell is that close to the Peel. I'll take your word for it, though.
Last night was spectacular and I'm looking forward to tonight. I will DEFINITELY be purchasing a set of ear plugs for night two. I highly suggest everyone wear them... I still can't hear shit.
Also, I didn't see this mentioned in the setlist, but Corgan also sang a tease of The Doors "the end"... just a few lines.

my experience at the show last night:
I got to the peel around 7:20. (I had intended to go earlier, but got delayed about an hour) The line at that point wasn't even at the next building over. They opened the doors around 7:30. I was able to get a spot in the 2nd row, albeit on the side of the stage. I saw at least 3 or 4 people selling their extra tickets at face value - if you're in town, it'd probably be worth it to show up early and try to get one.
The left side was a pretty decent place to be: We saw Billy et al come in the side door there at 8; it's right next to the bar; and it's right in front of Ginger. She was wearing dalmatian print leggings, causing the creepy old guy I talked to during the set break to whine "man, she was wearing a miniskirt on saturday."
I don't know what to say about the show itself, except it was awesome. The opening band was decent. The pumpkins came on right at 10, the set break wasn't even ten minutes long, and they didn't finish playing until 1:20.
So overall, probably the best show I've ever been to. 6/28/2007 12:09:35 AM |

had a great time at the show on tue. we were suppose to meet up with two other people but they didn't show, so we sold our extra two tics at face value. the only regret i had was that i got way too drunk before the show and ended up sobering up while i was in line and waiting inside...i guess i should've learned to pace myself by now.
the show was fucking awsome. i'm not a huge pumpkins fan so i didn't know what to expect, but i liked all of their new and old stuff. bullet w/butterfly wings, drown and starla were some of my favorites. they had a lot of cool shirts. the black $50 one was my favorite, but i just couldn't justify spending that much on a tshirt.
anyway, great time. i'm glad i got the chance to see them. it was definitely worth it! 6/28/2007 1:03:04 AM |

Go to a guitar store and get some with holes in them. I know that sounds counterintuitive, but there are specially made musician's ear plugs that cut the decibels by ~20dB without losing any of the top end.
Also, I reallyreallyreallyreallyreally hope they play Drown on Friday.

Wednesday nights show absolutely blew away Tuesday nights set. The unknown songs they opened with were amazing.
Once again, my dumbass didn't wear earplugs (don't ask me why, I fucking had them in my pocket), so I'm deaf once again today, but holy shit was last night worth it.
Billy said he's written 5 new songs JUST since he's been in Asheville (must be inspired by that mountain air). I took the time during the day yesterday, when I wasn't seeing family, to hit up a few record stores down on Lexington and found some real steals. (UmmaGumma first print, $15, score... they had a reissued print for the same price). Anyway, was bullshitting w/ the store owner and he said all the businesses on Lexington were doing insanely well b/c of this residency and he also said Corgan has been spotted somewhere downtown almost every day. So, if you get there early and want to try to find BC, I would head down Lexington and hang out a bit.
Time for me to go back to Raleigh. I want to thank those who alerted us to the re-sale of the tickets a few weeks ago again. I would have had no idea and missed out on one of the best concert experiences of my life.
http://www.smasheville.com --- great site that's keeping track of this residency.

Disclaimer: this is based off of hearsay from Netphoria. I'm going to assume that people won't just make stuff up.
6/23 Soundcheck (as per Travis Wright, so I'll believe it)
Starla Translucent Ava Adore Aeroplane Flies High Window Paine With Every Light (Electric New Version) 7 Shades of Black Come On (Let's Go) Rocket Tease Glass & The Ghost Children (New Version) Apples & Oranges w drums (New Version) Blue Skies Bring Tears (New Version)

Death from above New song (this is obviously incomplete)
Allegedly played today during a rehersal: Bury Me Cherry Crush Frail and Bedazzled Fuck You Heavy Metal Machine In My Body and they were messing around with the arrangement for Rocket.
TAFH? Frail and Bedazzled? Gish songs? So it looks like we can still expect some surprises. I'm still hoping for Ruby, Mayonaise, and Soma." |
