DL'd Doolittle last night. As expected, they guitar parts aren't that great but they're fun to sing and play at the same time.

I was considering just grabbing my favorite 6 songs at 160 a piece given the number of <2:00 songs on this album. But they seem to have factored that into the price and it was only ~500 more pts to get the other 8 songs so wtf.

So more supposed RB2 setlists are making their way around the web, mostly rumors but they sound awesome.

Oh and when Rock Band 2 comes out you can download the entire RB1 setlist for free.

I don't believe this. You know they could still sell the RB1 disc for $20-$30 after RB2 comes out.... They wouldn't just start giving those songs away.

i think the "free download of rb1" is if you already have rb1 they are gonna have a way for you to download all of rb1 songs onto your hard drive so that you can play all songs from both rbs with just keeping rb2 disc in the console...

maybe?

"Says IGN 360 editor Nate Ahern:

"Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour create an interesting situation for gamers. If you bought Rock Band 1 then chances are you'll feel cheated by the release of RB2, thus you'd think that GHWT would be the way to go as it somewhat redefines the music gaming genre. However, if you didn't buy the first Rock Band then I would absolutely agree with notagoth. Immediately upon purchasing Rock Band 2 you'll have the ability to download a huge library of songs, as well as all of the songs off of the original disc as a free download. Then again, Guitar Hero World Tour does allow users to create and share their own songs, so it's really only a matter of time until the Rock Band library is eclipsed. At the end of the day it could come down to which series has earned your allegiance over the last year since RB's original release.""

Honestly, who is going to buy RB1 after 2 has come out? It makes sense fro Harmonix to do this so that people have more reason to choose RB2 over GH4.

They have to give some kind of incentive for people who already have RB1 or else a lot of people are gonna be pissed at Harmonix for giving those songs away for free when we paid for them. Pissing people off is what Activision does, not Harmonix.

^ I love the idea, it means I can access all the Rock Band songs from one menu without having to swap discs.

^^ But then again, no they won't

the standard for video game companies now is to screw over the early adapters

Do people bitch and moan when the halo map packs eventually become free? No, they've grown accustomed to it.

Early adapters will forever be punished by video game manufacturers.

Everyone will complain that RB1 is basically free now, but we'll all get over it and buy RB2, because we'd rather spend $60 on 80 new songs instead of $180 for new hardware as well

How much do Halo map packs cost though? I can't imagine they cost $60.

And 80 new songs isn't an incentive if that is what everyone who gets RB2 is getting.

My point wasn't the cost, my point was something becoming free after it's been available for a while

You people are acting like Harmonix is just another Video Game developer. Just out for as much money as possible with no regards to how the fans feel.

If you've been paying any attention at all to how they've been running things lately (especially in comparison with Activision and the GH series) you'd know that's pretty far from the truth.

That guy got called out by another IGN editor and admitted that he was just talking out of his ass.
Again, they're not just going to give away all the songs that are on the RB1 disc. All these stories about Harmonix and hearts and rainbows... they still like money.

Of course they like money and are in the business of making it. And they make tons.

Just, as an end user, I don't feel like Harmonix is trying to pull out every trick in the book to bleed out every dime they can get from me.

The same cannot be said about Activision.

How many people will buy Madden 08 after 09 comes out?

Once Rock Band 2 comes out no one is going to pay $60 just to have the songs from RB1.

Guitar Hero 4 will also competing for the full-band market and Harmonix would be wise to do everything possible to make Rock Band 2 more appealing.

^it (rb1) probably won't stay at $60 once rb2 comes out

also, the content/songs, and therefore gameplay, is entirely different from rb1 to rb2

each successive madden game/any sports game usually touts an updated graphics or animation engine over any interface changes, unless those changes are major/gimmicky (first-person mode, running a franchise, delegating buttons to specific players/receivers, etc.):
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/ea-sports-wants-to-show-madden-09-is-different-with-new-videos/

i agree that guitar hero: world tour will provide plenty of competition, though harmonix supposedly feels that rhythm games should share the market rather than compete

also, snow is insane on expert guitar

That's $1 / song. People are currently lapping it up at $2 per DLC song. What makes you think they won't pay 50% less for the RB1 tracks???

If I'm a newbie buying RB2, what makes any song on the RB1 disc any different from the hundreds that are available as DLC? Nothing, it's all new to me.

^half of the songs that came with the game suck, so it's more like $2/song with 30+ you'll never play for free.

With that being said, I felt like the microphone, drums, and guitar that came with Rock Band 1 offset the cost of the game itself to where I didn't feel like I was paying $60 for the game. I don't know anyone that bought just the game without the peripherals.

It doesn't matter if they suck

what about all of the "full album" purchases that only have 2 or 3 good songs in them?

Plus, when you don't have to sing the song, even the sucky ones can be fun on at least one instrument

You only really notice when you're forced to sing a song that you a) don't know and b) hate the tune

I can see it now:

"We've decided half the songs on the RB1 disc suck, so we're going to give the whole thing away for FREE!!!1"

No, they're going to cost $2/piece (same as ANY other song) OR if you're lucky $1/piece or there will be a RB1 pack for $20 or $30.

I mean, they haven't even confirmed that the songs will be free for people who own RB1 yet. I think it's quite a leap to go from there to free for EVERYONE.

I would really like the ability to have all songs from both games on "one disc", meaning I wouldn't have to switch out my disks to play

so since I already own RB1, I don't care how they do it

^agreed
convenience is one thing (switching out discs to play certain songs, etc.); enjoying all the old songs with the new features is what i care about

this is also very important to me. The leaked screenshot showed a "2" icon next to the new songs, which very strongly suggests that RB1 songs will be made available in some way, shape, or form.

Hell, I'd even begrudgingly re-buy the ones I like for $1/pop.

Try going through the menus slowly with the guitar and see what the responses look like there. Just press down 15-20 times on the song selection screen and make sure it goes down every time. Then back up. Then back out of menus with the red and go forward with the green and make sure you get a proper reply every time. Make sure to test every button to make sure it works properly in a calm setting. Also if you know anyone that's relatively good at guitar get them to try it out. They should be able to tell you if it's a problem with the guitar or not. 99% of the problems I heard about were the drums, but that doesn't mean that there aren't bum guitars out there. If you do have a bad one, it's relatively easy to return them.

all the new instruments come out Sunday as well.

Amazon had them listed for Sept. 10, but I called Best Buy, and their street date is Sept. 14. Now Amazon is listing Sept. 16.
