^^sure did...
It was nice to have someone else set up the chapel and reception so that neither I, my mother, friends, or any other family members had to. That peace of mind that "Rachel was taking care of it" was worth it.
However, she also served as a director, and there were a handful of things that she was in charge of that didn't go right. Did anyone notice? Unless you were directly involved in the planning or rehearsal, no. Were some of those things disappointing? Yes...some didn't matter and we've just said "whatever to it" but some we felt were pretty standard, old hat if you will, and shouldn't have happened.

has a link for a seller in Portland
really though, offbeatbride will probably be your best friend...they really do a great job of pooling amazing things from non and semi traditional weddings, a lot of DIY, w/ an occasional vendor posting
their message board is helpful too

I don't really get the point of a groom's cake anymore. I get what it used to be, but now it just seems like an excuse for another cake.
Not that I have room to talk, we're going to have something like 10 cakes, pies, and cobblers at my wedding 1/19/2010 10:08:24 PM |

alright, question to all of you wedding vets
how long to do you think the seating of the grandparents/parents and processional takes?
I want to do all of this in one song.
here's the breakdown
1. greatgrandparents 2. grandparents 1 3. grandparents 2 (these grandparents may not come...but for times sake we will say they will) 4. grooms dad and step mom 5. grooms mom 6. my mom 7. bridesmaid 1 8. braidesmaid 2 9 me
i have a song that is roughly 9:30 long.
ive not very good with the concept of time so i dont know if this is long enough or not. i'm going by the seating/processional i've seen at other weddings that take no longer than 15 minutes and they have anywhere from 5-7 bridesmaids....i have 2.
what do ya'll think? 1/26/2010 12:39:54 PM |

backyard, so hard dirt?
bridesmaids will more than likely not be in heels (cant say that about the other though )
i am not sure about how far the walk is though >.<
i havent even made a guestlist, but im gonna try to make the "walk" relatively short

^ I would think so. My best friend's wedding ceremony lasted 15-20 total (including the vows, walk, everything). There were 3 of us bridesmaids and we had to wait a certain amount of time to walk down the aisle... Although, I'm not sure if our walk included the parents and grandparents first... But my mom said the whole thing took only like 20 minutes so I think you'd be good
GAH I'm already starting to stress about all this stuff and we decided on March 2012 (aka I have a loooooong time). I do want to get SOME ducks in a row though.
I think I'm going to have my colors be either...
Green/yellow/white (probably like apple green and canary yellow) Green/tangerine/white (mint green and a softer tangerine, not like HEY IT'S ORANGE) Green/aqua/white (mint green and a relatively bright aqua but not summery aqua.. if that makes sense)
Joie - on theknot.com I saw this thing where a couple used antique brooches for their place cards 1/26/2010 1:30:59 PM |

mmmkay, since we didn't have a run through at rehearsal, and since I had 3 songs that was manned and changed for the different parts (iPod ceremony!), this is a guestimate based on what I've seen in the wedding video
13 sets of people walking down the aisle was about 8 minutes, and just me was about 45 seconds...hth1/26/2010 4:36:44 PM |

We had a song for the grandmothers (About 3 minutes, because they hobbled). A song for the mothers (very short, maybe a minute). A song for the bridal party (3-4 minutes for the Groom, pastor, 3 bridesmaids, 4 groomsmen and the flower girl). And a song for me--About a minute for me, because I had a much longer walk (from the building, instead of end of aisle). They were all very short songs though (obviously).

the one beach wedding i went to you could barely hear the music due to wind...they had an ipod ceremony.
however, i've been witness to a beach wedding where they had a steel drum band playing, and you could hear it a good 50 yards away. 1/27/2010 12:12:18 AM |

Yeah I think we would definitely need to hire real instruments, which kind of blows lol. If you can't even hear recorded music being played it probably would be better to just skip the music. 1/27/2010 12:13:36 AM |

^Absolutely. I think it's par for the course. My MIL was devastated when we weren't going to get married in her hometown. But she came around, and eventually understood we didn't make that decision to alienate her.
And we had people upset with the dates we chose. You can't please everyone.

our colors were green, brown, ivory w/ an accent of confetti (yellow & red tipped) roses
all of the flowers were ivory and green except for the bridesmaids' bouquets (all confetti roses), I had one confetti rose in my bouquet, and there was one confetti rose in the pew markers

I agree.. I love your wedding LK!!
I saw a cute idea for centerpieces... You put cards naming each table after something special to you and the groom or a place you've been or where you met... Or you put actual pictures of places you've been and use those names for the table -- is that what yall did with the pictures?
^ for you... more apples!

mmmhmmm...those are photographs we took (scenery only) on the many trips we had taken as a couple up until that point. we didn't have assigned seating though...we just reserved 2 or 3 tables for the bridal party and grandparents, and everyone else sat wherever.
we had 4 tables outside and 2 in the bar where we reused the bridesmaids' bouquets as centerpieces. just plopped em in a mason jar. i don't have any photos of those unfortunately.
we also reused all the flower arrangements at the chapel at the reception hall. pew marker...
became part of the centerpiece...on the right
you can see that the tables alternated green and brown table cloths.
then we had this overlay on our sweetheart table, the dessert table, cake table, and the guestboard table
mmmm, chocolate mousse...
ahhh, don't forget a cake stand...or your cake may look like this
ok i'm done sharing...promise! haha and thank you Joie and Sam (not really...I loved our wedding, imma talk about it foreva! )
^lol, you were in many

It is but it also kind of annoys me. Well over half of their weddings have a full wedding coordinator attached to them. And a huge portion of them either the bride or groom does some sort of graphic design for their work. So it feels like the only way you can get the results they show is by having $texas or doing it for a job to begin with.
Then again, I guess theKnot is basically the wedding industry's pimp machine so they want to encourage you to spend a crapload of money 1/27/2010 6:32:04 PM |

^2 Haha yeah I vented to LK and if you want to vent with me, we can
Yeah I noticed that about the knot too... I was thinking - there's no way a lot of these people are this creative.
BUTTTTT my sister is a graphic designer and has already offered her services (and she's the M.O.H.) so I'ma put her to work!!
And they had a section on there for budget weddings... The article said the average wedding costs over $27K!!!! 1/27/2010 6:59:49 PM |
