Needed more blonde church chick. Preferably sans apparel. And Jessica would get it. A lot.

pretty disappointing premiere.

This show has gone pretty well down hill since season 1. From tonight, and the previews they are showing about the season, it looks like this is going to be just as lame as twilight, except with tits.

Too bad really.

yeah, i wasn't blown away. But i'm not ready to judge the entire season based on one episode. And i thought it had quite a few good laughs and there's plenty of potential for where it could go. It was a good episode, just not anything special considering it was the season premier. -- we all knew there were werewolves in the show and we all knew they would be in this episode from the previews. Maybe it would have been better if they didn't ruin that aspect in the previews and the werewolves were a little less expected.

one big problem for me was their need to bring every character up in the first episode. I hate when shows do that in premiers and finales just to do it. It used up screen time unnecessarily. And Tara is still my least favorite character on the show.

I liked it for the very reason you disliked it. I'm glad they didn't waste any time, touched on every story & character where we left off and got things rolling. I don't always like when shows do that, but since there is so much going on plus the addition of werewolves dilly dallying would have annoyed me more. Definitely wasn't their best, but it wasn't their worst either.

And they drug out some things way too long (Maryann) in S2...getting to the point was AOK for me.

I liked the premier, it went by really fast to me. When he was surrounded by werewolves and it cut to the credits I was like, already?!?!?!

I've missed this show, glad its back

^^^ i guess to be fair, the only part/character that i thought absolutely wasn't necessary at all for this episode was Arlene's pregnancy stuff. I don't see it being a major factor in the next few episodes and like you said, there's a lot going on. To take time away from those things (even just a few minutes) just annoys me.

And while the Jason having sex thing had a decent laugh or two... it didn't do anything except reiterate that he was upset that he had killed Eggs. Which they'd already established as soon as he got into the house and immediately iterated when Andy showed up. And that was probably a good 5 minutes or more counting the pickup scene. - Although, I can see the hallucinations being much more pertinent to the next few episodes.

The head guy finding out about them selling the V was entirely new. I liked that and i like the potential of it offers. but there was already a lot going on when they introduced it. I'm not sure it couldn't have come along after this episode.

The main "problem" with S2 was the way they handled multiple problems. I thought they were all interesting. But the maryann storyline went on far longer than it should have. Part of the reason for that was because, for some reason, they felt it was necessary to include that in every episode instead of having some episodes just not mention it all that much. Since there was no real development ("oh no, Tara has black eyes AGAIN!), it really hurt that story line imo. They could have avoided that by either ending the maryann story line a few episodes earlier OR just not giving it as much screen time. In the latter case, people would be left wondering what would happen; but you have more time for the other arcs and even better, her arc doesn't get old and stagnant with a lack of development.

I did like the episode. And I like everything they have going on. But considering that they threw so much into the opening episode (some of which could have waited), I'm a little concerned they may try to do too much (i.e. touch on every arc in just about every episode), which is what hurt one of the major arcs of last season imo. The number of story lines doesn't necessarily bother me. But imo, they set a bad precedent last season in regard to their ability to handle that many story lines well. Having a lot of story lines also worries me some in regard to their quality. HBO seasons aren't long. It's likely that something won't get the proper attention or it probably wasn't needed to begin with.

Plus... i can just barely stand Tara. So for me, the amount of screen time she got last night was like torture.

Yeah Tara sucks. Most people are blogging about the same thing. I thought Mary Ann was killed off two quick. I would have expected a larger, more dramatic fight in the end. All they did after that was wind up the issues of Season 3.

That said I really like last night's episode.

I think that scene did a good job at illustrating just how much shooting Eggs fucked Jason up. Jason has always been about getting pussy first and foremost, so for him to be affected this way says alot.

I think a big part of why i love this show is i dont expect much. I knew that werewolves were going to be introduced, and despite that, the last scene of the show had me yelling "OH SHIT! FUCKING WEREWOLVES"

^ true. And like I said, I don't mind that scene so much if him being affected that way is truly an issue in the coming episodes. If it's brushed over... then I think it was just filler. They could have also done the hallucinating thing when he was talking with Andy and saved the time it took for him to pick them up at the diner and the time it took at the house. Again, there were some good laughs there. I'm just not sure if those served for anything other than a couple of laughs and nudity/sex.

^^ do you not want to punch Tara in the face more often than not? It seems like right when I start to like her, she does/says something stupid. For ex., the way she reacted to Sookie telling her that she helped Eggs remember (blaming her and flipping out). I realize that may not be the best example because she was upset and a little irrational. But she's almost always that irrational and she's not almost always dealing with the death of someone. I just think she's stupid and can be a super bitch. It's really difficult for me to like her at all. She's the only character I've not liked. I'd prefer they use her less and use Lafayette more. Or a little more Lafayette and a little more Pam.

I can agree with you there 100%. I suppose the writers took some of the blogs' complaints to heart w/ all the orgies going on last year--there's bound to be someone pregnant or with an STD

I really just wish somebody would have killed Tara's mom. She's so annoying. Tara was an alright character for me in the first couple season's but she was ridiculous last night. Overall i thought it was good though, i try not to think too much about it and just laugh every once in a while, like the gay scene with Bill and Sam.

And seriously, how the fuck could anyone be disappointed by this premiere. It literally had everything we watch this show for. It's basically concentrated trash TV.

So is that one "magistrate" (sp?) vampire ranked higher than the queen? I don't understand the ranks there.

They both must be older than 2000 years old. That's how old Godric was and they are both higher ranking.

I love learning the background and history behind the vampire's turning.

Yeah, I can tolerate Tara. But her mom has got to go. I feel for Tara's mom the way ya'll feel for Tara apparently.

And I think Lafayette is going to be my favorite character this season Which is funny, because his character should have died in S1 and there's absolutely nothing in the books about him after Book 1. So this is all new and no one really knows where they'll go with him. And I like that.

I'm not sure if the magister is higher ranking than the Queen or not, but i'm pretty sure age has nothing to do with rank. It's just politics. Even Eric is older than the Queen (iirc) just not by much--they are both ~1000 yrs old. And as for Godric, Eric said in S2 he could've been King of Texas if he had wanted.

The magistrate and queen relationship is probably just a vampiric version of separation of powers.

Also, Godric was older than everyone -- at least according to Eric.

My favorite part of the episode was Jason talking to Sookie at the end of their scene cleaning the kitchen: "It's just you and me, Sook. Then you're gonna marry Bill and it'll just be you, me, and Bill."

PS - I really hate Tara. Not to beat a dead horse, but I agree that she is awful and unwatchable, and the actress is terrible too. If her character were to be written off it'd be fine by me.

I actually enjoy that vampires can hand werewolves asses to them. It would be nice however to see werewolves eat some humans to put it in perspective but keeping vampires at the top of the food chain is a checkmark in my book.

This past episode was BORING. Anything involving Sam or Tera can fall off a cliff.

Also, WTF Snoop Dogg?

re: the werewolves - i like them as regular wolves. The big beastly thing has been done to death and they seldom look like "wolves" anyhow (which doesn't make much sense to me). Plus I bet it's considerably more cost effective - we are talking about a tv show after all. I know that's not a great excuse, but there is something to be said for managed expectations.

And I'm glad they're not equals to the vampires. They're underwhelming because they're simply not meant to be all that bad ass. The likes of underworld and twinklight twilight movies for the past 10 yrs have always had them as being sort of on the same level as vampires and people just sort of expect it. TrueBlood went a different route. And made them obviously not as powerful as the vampires. Bill (once fed) didn't hesitate to take on 4 or 5 of them on his own. They didn't make any attempt to make the werewolves be bad ass or as powerful as the vampires. At least none that we've seen so far. That could quickly change.

^^^are post-ep "next week on true blood" scenes considered spoilers

if so,

"NEXT WEEK ON TRUE BLOOD" SPOILERS BELOW

it looked like the werewolf in sookie's house was on top of eric in next week's ep as Eric asks who fed the wolf, plus the female nazi wolf got the best of eric after she fed from him and eric had to be saved by godric. so wolves must not be that much below vamps and w/ the PED's, can vault above them, even a powerful vamp like eric. this is just based on brief flashes though

END MAYBE KINDA SORTA SPOILERS

regarding what ^ said about next weeks trailer (spoilerish)

It looked to me like Sookie may have accidentally shot Eric. It looked like he was hit in the stomach, but i may be wrong. There was definitely a gunshot then it cut away. So that could explain why the wolf was on top.

Also, Eric had just told her that most werewolves weren't a big deal. But that there were some who were very organized and who fed on vampire blood and that they weren't to be taken lightly. I may be wrong, but i suspect he wasn't talking about the werewolves we saw earlier who seemed to be servants to the king of miss. As I eluded to earlier, that group of werewolves may be a much more dangerous what we've actually seen so far.

And with the the female werewolf during WWII, she wasn't just a werewolf. She was a werewolf hopped up on vampire blood. Which is part of what Eric said made these other werewolves more dangerous.

So... regular werewolf = seems to not amount to much. werewolf from this organization, with training, and using vampire blood = perhaps much more of a match.

And if they're not that much weaker than vamps, the writers did a horrible job of illustrating that by letting Bill (who is not all that powerful) completely dominate 4 or 5 of them at once.
