Jeepin4x4 where have you found Moo Hoo in Charlotte? I need to give it a shot.

Anyone know if the Dogfish Head Bitches' Brew is still available anywhere? After seeing that new Brewmasters show I want to try it (as do probably most of the people who watched, so it may be long gone by now).

On a whim, tried a 6-pack of this over the long weekend:

Label indicates flavors of peach and pecan--definitely got the peach, more than I expected, the pecan not so much. Also more highly carbonated than I would have though. Not bad, but too peachy--I was expecting a dunkelweizen with peach and pecan flavors, not a peach beer that also happens to be a dunkelweizen. Interesting though. If they took away some of the peach punch it would be quite good.

my local total wine has most of the basics. Duvel, Chimay, and some other tulip and snifter styles.

did you look for the Duvel 4-pack + glass? mine had a ton of those in for the holidays as well along with some Guinness glass packs and a couple others.

I have 6 bottles left. I sold 6 in the first 5 days without even publishing it on facebook @ $20/bottle.

The TW at North Hills has a bit more glassware than the one in cary, they had the SA perfect pint glasses as well as some gift sets that come with glasses (pretty sure I saw a Duvel and St Bernadus one the last time I was there). Barley & Vine on Duraleigh has a small selection of glassware (it's mostly belgian stuff). Sam's Quik Shop in Durham has a pretty large selection of glassware as well (plus easily the best beer selection in the Triangle).

I had some Rogue Santa's Private Reserve and Rogue Dead Guy Ale this last weekend. Santa's Private Reserve was pretty good.

^ I like their Santa's Reserve, their Yellow Snow Ale, however, is pretty shitty.

east coast/nc beer people -- can you recommend some beers i should try when i'm back in asheville over christmas?

i'm mostly a hophead raised on west coast-style ipas and the like

last year, i learned about hopsecutioner through this thread (which i thought was really good), and when i was in raleigh over labor day i had a few of the foothills double ipa

They tapped a keg of it last night at Busy Bee at 9pm, $5 per 8 oz glass, I had a couple of them. It was one of the small cylindrical kegs though so it may have run out last night, I'd highly recommend going there and getting a glass though if they still have any left.

sure you probably know this, but the local beer scene in asheville is just great, though most of the smaller guys are draft only

just some scattered thoughts, by no means comprehensive:

barley's and mellow mushroom both have outstanding selections of local beers, the best in the area

pisgah, wedge, craggie, and green man all have pretty cool tasting rooms, though green man produces english-style ales (so no hop bombs). highland just opened a tasting room that I haven't been to

the nantahala noon day ipa was really good, so look out for that on tap, I found it at 12 Bones

brusin' ales is one of the better beer stores around - they'll have growlers from a few of the local breweries and tons of great bottles

Yeah you can't be putting ice in your beer, but it's probably just a pic he grabbed from google image search.

eh, i thought it was good enough -- there are a lot of bad ipas out there and i didn't think this was one of them

thanks for the recommendations, i'll look for this (and a visit to 12 bones is always must when i'm back, though i've only been to the one in arden near my parents' house)

i tend to gravitate to ipas so i was just wondering what local/regional ones i should pick up or order when out and which ones i should take a pass on...

Pliny the Elder is only 8%, the key to good DIPA's isn't high alcohol content.

nevermind that i like plenty of them like stone ruination but i just do not like seeing double

i think it was on special at saucer one night and we all agreed it tasted like ass but my one friend who just drinks to get fucked up stayed with it

if you're seeing double with 8-10% something's wrong with you. and that's besides the point, double IPAs and the like are not for session drinking.

wedge makes really good, but not outstanding, double and single ipas, as does pisgah - not much competition for what you'll find with stone or the other west coast guys, but worth a shot

I wasn't a huge fan of the Brrrrbon, as it didn't have much going on besides the barrel aging and it was pretty expensive...I would take a 4 pack of Backwoods Bastard over a bomber of Brrrrbon any day of the week (they cost about the same).

^^ He's right, it ran around $11 a bomber, so it was a little overpriced. It did share some bourbon qualities and was definitely enjoyable however. Would drink again. I would also highly recommend the Brooklyn Local 1. Exactly what I want out of a Belgian.

Bitches Brew is a good beer. I fear that its rankings and opinions will be overly inflated by this new found popularity and less based on what the beer actually has to offer. Either that or people will open the bottle expecting something much more than what they will get.
