I just got sent two tickets in the mail for my "past patronage" to the western carolina game

I'm trying to figure out if this is at all legit; any other former season ticket holder get something similar?

You have got to be kidding me if that songs legit.

We always lack on the intro so I wouldn't put it past the A+ team that pulls this shit together each year.

Another story about the D. The link has a couple vids, including an interview w/ Bishop:

Quote :
" State defenders look to step up

While North Carolina State's football team has yet to solidify the starting lineup for 2010, players know the defense is an area for improvement.

“We had a lot of low points last year,” safety Brandan Bishop said. “Possibly the Duke game, it all came to a head.”

“After the first few games when it all started falling apart, it seemed like it couldn’t get any worse,” added linebacker Audie Cole.

N.C. State’s problems on defense in 2009 started with a wave of early injuries. True freshmen were forced to start in the secondary.

Bishop was one of those freshmen.

“I was just coming to campus and then getting thrown into the game, and then you’re playing on TV,” said Bishop. “It was definitely an experience and something you can’t really prepare for.”

Miscommunication, missed tackles and missed assignments plagued the Pack in 2009.

N.C. State allowed 31.2 points per game, second-worst in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

“The wheels fell off, and by the time we started fixing it, it was too late,” Cole said.

The players will try to turn those struggles into a positive this year. “We definitely look back and learn from everything,” Bishop said.

“Their experiences last year should help them,” said head football coach Tom O’Brien.

“Hopefully, we’re going to play much quicker than we did last year because we’re much more confident in where we’re lined up and what we're supposed to be doing.”

“I think everyone is confident, a lot more confident than last year,” said Cole.

Part of that confidence comes with the return of Nate Irving. The standout linebacker missed all of last season with injuries suffered in a car wreck.

“Having Nate back is big,” Bishop said. “Nate’s one of the smartest football players I have ever been around.”

New assistant coach Jon Tenuta also comes to State with a reputation for his tricky blitz schemes.

“I’ve heard our offense saying our blitzes are a lot different this year,” said Cole, who noted the defense has found the schemes easy to learn.

“We’re going to bring pressure, hopefully, from all sides of the ball this year,” said Bishop. “You’re just going to have to wait and see.”"

Yeah, they took a quick trip to Barnes & Noble.

But seriously... after the game Duke's QB said we did everything that he had seen us do on tape. We didn't adjust. Or couldn't adjust.

Also that quote about sill looking to fill 10 or 11 starting spots doesn't paint the future in the best of lights. Something tells me the coaches aren't on the fence on who to fill those positions because there are multiple good options to chose from. Probably reading too much into it.

^^you didn't need the defensive playbook last year to understand that our entire secondary stood still until the pass left the qb's hand, then all tried to converge on the receiver once he already caught the ball and began advancing it.

My one true hope for this defense is that we'll be able to get enough pressure to cover for our horrible pass defense. Unfortunately teams will probably start to exploit that pressure with ball screens and quick routes.

What the hell is the matter with you people? Our defense had five freshmen playing on it, mostly in the secondary. We lost our star linebacker, we had a good reason to be HORRIBLE. They ARE going to be a better defense this year. Shut up with the "our secondary is gonna be just as horrible as last time" bullshit.

blitzing effectively would help our secondary. but if we blitz and they pick it up...we will just expose the secondary even more. but i agree with ^^. you cant get ur ass kicked consistantly for a whole season and not learn anything from it.

Depends on why the freshmen was so bad last year...It could either be

A) they were freshmen and made too many mental mistakes since they were so new to the system

or

B) they just didn't have the physical ability to do the job

if A then yes they should be much better than last year. If B, then we're in for another long season.

"N&O blows."

get out of here with that shit, look at what the featured article in the sports section was today:
Pack linebacker Manning back to full speed
Quote :
"

RALEIGH -- Terrell Manning said he finally feels like "the old me" on the football field again, and it's showing.

After spending a year and a half trying to catch up with Dwayne Maddox at outside linebacker, Manning entered the fall in a first-team position on N.C. State's defense in the preseason.

He finally feels like he's playing at full strength after suffering a torn knee ligament in a state playoff game in 2007.

Quantcast

"There's a lot of progress from me [now] in terms of being a student of the game and having a chance to actually play healthy," Manning said. "I'm actually, every play, healthy and coming out here full speed."

Manning said he is bigger, stronger and faster than before the injury, and that's a promising sign for a Wolfpack defense that gave up 31.2 points per game last season, the second-highest mark in the ACC.

At Scotland County High, he made an astounding 219 tackles as a senior in 2007. He was ranked the No. 3 player overall in North Carolina by Rivals.com, behind only E.J. Abrams-Ward of Thomasville and Spencer Adams of Mathews Butler.

But after what seemed to be a routine tackle against East Burke, Manning lay on the ground. Although he said he wasn't in a lot of pain, something was wrong with his knee. He learned that he had torn his anterior cruciate ligament.

"We thought he was a great prospect," N.C. State coach Tom O'Brien said. "He was set back by his knee injury in the playoff game, and it was an unfortunate thing. It cost him a redshirt year, but in the long run maybe it's better for him because he's a little more physical, he's got a little more weight on him now."

Great aspirations

Manning loves watching old film of Lawrence Taylor.

Forget that Taylor played for rival North Carolina before his Hall of Fame career with the New York Giants. That doesn't matter to Manning.

Taylor was one of the best ever, and gave Manning something to aspire to. So did Hilee Taylor, a neighborhood friend who played for the Tar Heels and is an outside linebacker with the Carolina Panthers.

Manning, Hilee Taylor, current South Carolina players Travian Robertson and Byron McKnight and East Carolina's Damonte Terry all used to get together for what must have been some incredible backyard football games in their neighborhood.

When Hilee Taylor signed with UNC, Manning realized that becoming a scholarship football player was within his reach. But his injury got him off to a rocky start at N.C. State.

He said he didn't feel like he was at full strength even as a redshirt freshman in 2009, two years after the injury. Manning played a significant role with two starts and 48 tackles, and even had a game with some personal highlights, recording eight tackles, an interception, a caused fumble and two passes broken up against Florida State.

But he wasn't satisfied.

"You're never where you want to be coming back from an injury," Manning said. ". . .I had a lot of work to do. I wasn't where I wanted to be."

Now, finally, that's changing.

Still maturing

Manning said new linebackers coach Jon Tenuta has done a good job communicating what he wants done on the field, and then demanding that his players do it.

Tenuta, hired to coach State's linebackers after Andy McCollum left for Georgia Tech, has seen improvement in Manning.

"He's matured in a lot of aspects, both mentally and physically," Tenuta said. "And I think he understands what we're trying to do."

That's no guarantee that Manning will become a dominating player on State's defense. Tenuta also said that Manning has more maturing to do, and Manning's competition with Maddox might not be over yet.

But O'Brien said Manning definitely has improved.

"Playing last year, he was like a lot of those kids, first-time players," O'Brien said. "They used the whole season and spring practice to try and get better. The more you play, the more experience you have, the faster you play. So he's playing much faster than he was, say, at this time last year."

^ agreed. The N&O has been giving us props lately with good articles.

^^ I gotta agree with the posters on SFN. Our ticket sales are "sluggish" - meanwhile, Duke is selling out? OK, maybe we're sluggish compared with OUR previous seasons. But we're still beating everyone else in NC. I like this one instead:

Quote :
"In spite of 4 consecutive losing seasons and 7 seasons since a winning conference record, a loyal NC State fanbase still leads the state in season football tickets sold."

Duke may have sold out season tickets (thanks to people spending buying season tickets for $62 just for the Alabama game), but they will have 15K people at their opeing game against Elon versus 60K at Carter Finley for Western Carolina. How many season ticket holders will show up for other games? They will probably get 30K to UNC and 25K to UVA.

They made the point in the article that State has sold more season tickets than the capacity of Wallace Wade. You people are getting all up in arms about them saying that our season ticket sales are sluggish in comparison to previous years which is undeniably true.

Also, more good stuff from the N&O:
Quote :
"At the beginning of preseason practice, N.C. State coach Tom O'Brien said quarterback Russell Wilson was a bit rusty after coming back from playing baseball for the Wolfpack in the spring and the Colorado Rockies organization in the summer.

But Wilson said today that he is in 'game mode' and in rhythm now.

"I feel great," he said during his weekly conference with reporters. "I’m working with the receivers, tight ends and running backs, and trying to continue the rhythm and continue the flow of the football game, and keep working hard and getting better every day."

Meanwhile, O'Brien alluded for the second time in two days to unspecified personnel moves that coaches are evaluating in practice. He said he won't decide until Sunday on a starting lineup for the Sept. 4 opener with Western Carolina.

"We haven’t made any decisions anywhere," he said. "We kind of changed things around and moved a couple guys around, and we still have until Sunday until we have to make any decisions. So no sense making them Wednesday if you don’t have to make them until Sunday."

O'Brien said Justin Byers, who has played safety and cornerback for the Wolfpack the last two seasons, has responded well to settling in at cornerback full time. For the past two seasons, O'Brien said, Byers has played with a shoulder injury.

"It was one of those things he could play with," O'Brien said. "It wasn’t as bad his first year. It got progressively worse last year. He had to have surgery. He got it in the offseason. Now he’s back to 100 percent and he’s back to playing his position. So I think he’s much more comfortable there. It’s a position where I think we needed him now, and he’s doing a good job for us."

T.J. Graham, meanwhile, who has made most of his biggest plays as a kick returner, is making strides at wide receiver according to O'Brien.

"He’s much more comfortable now as a wide receiver," Graham said. "He’s making many more plays. Maybe he came in more as a track guy than a football player. But now he’s a football player, and you can see it in all phases of his game." "

But the point is that anyone with Stone's size should drop any LB at that angle

It wasn't even that hard of a hit. Nicholson jumped right up.

Nicholson wouldn't have given Stone a congratulatory pop if it wasn't a good hit. IIRC he was their best LB at the time too. It was a good hit for QB. Sure Stone was big, but it's not like he was regularly involved in hitting drills at practice, or games for that matter.
