I do not want WVU. Do not want at all.
Let's find an academically respectable school that still has strong athletics. UConn would be great, and really, why would they stay in the Big East if Syracuse and Pitt jump ship? However, I don't know who we'd take next. I don't want to see the ACC expand west unless they pick up Notre Dame (yeah, right) or Texas. 9/18/2011 6:26:47 PM |

As a Pennsylvanian, let me point out that Pitt isn't really a B school. It is more of a "1a" school, considering that in western PA it is the main draw for college students where Penn State is more central and eastern. 9/18/2011 6:32:03 PM |

you guys roll around acting like the world thinks the state of north carolina is a wonderful mesh of new world sophistication and old world class, and that nc state is on par with a ut-austin, say, as an engineering school.
while i enjoy north carolina, sans the heat, and will argue that nc state is a solid and respectable top 25 engineering institution, that's just not our reputation. i don't think anyone is going to lesser their opinion of nc state by adding west virginia to the conference. i'm in fact quite sure of it. if anything it'll get higher b/c espn will show the teams in the ACC and people will notice that there is both a unc and an nc state.] 9/18/2011 6:40:30 PM |

WVU are some of the worst fans in the country (even worse than Wal-Mart Nation UNC fans), and everyone knows this. Couple this with horribad academics, and I don't want them in my conference. 9/18/2011 6:40:36 PM |

So, the PAC-12 looks to be interested in becoming the PAC-16. The ACC is up to 14 with a likely 15 on the way (meaning a 16th team will be in our future as well - likely the only reason we've waited to announce UConn is to secure the 16th team first). Wonder when the SEC will step up their game?
The Big 10 seem to be content with their 12-team conference, but I don't see them sitting on the sidelines if the PAC-12 and ACC go to a 16-team setup. 9/18/2011 6:44:50 PM |

^^ man i've said that for a long time. when i graded a 400 level CE class i realized that maybe nc state wasn't the arguable top 10 that i used to give it credit for.
as far as the perception of the state of north carolina goes, that's just a fact, and i've said that for a long time too.

I'm not gonna act like State is a top-10 engineering university (though I'd like to see where that was ever claimed), but have you likewise graded at dozens of other universities? Seems like your research could be a bit short. 9/18/2011 7:21:59 PM |

^^^ they were so incredibly bad, but no i have not, so my mistake. i was just trying to figure out what part of what i said had anything to do with california.
and who the fuck brought up navy? that's a horrible idea. so is rutgers, what the fuck? we're not trying to race to be a big conference, we're trying to make sure we survive the conference-contracting. adding rutgers does nothing for that.

Rutgers has never had great sports programs but they have that P word. Potential. It's the state university in a rich state. It has infrastructure in place to have the very best facilities and given the right situation is an athletic program that could thrive.
And this is coming from someone who HATES Rutgers.9/18/2011 7:46:17 PM |
