Haven't weighed in about a month, don't really care what I weigh though, as long as I don't get below 180. I'm definitely seeing results though. I just need to get better about my eating. I ate/drank ~3000 calories just at dinner tonight at ruckus 2/24/2011 3:45:06 AM |

i didn't post photos til i had made significant progress... so doing the same thing isn't a big deal.
i've gained about 9 pounds back since september. but i start a month long 5 days a week bootcamp on Monday - which should jump start my ass back in gear.
april i hope to ride my bike to work at least 4 days a week (so that'd be 28 miles a day, 112 miles a week on the bike)
excited for warmer weather 2/24/2011 9:02:38 AM |

2. Post your workout routine and diet info.

4. NO FUCKING WHINING. Your muscles hurt? You don't like eating healthy food? You think you look fat? Shut the fuck up and get back to work.

This 100 pushup / 50 pullup routine workout is pretty killer. Noticing a huge improvement in pullups. My form is much better and I'm knocking out around 75 pullups / week (MWF) and close to 400 pushups / week (also MWF). I need to get back to more abs too, probably going to add in a short set of abs those same days starting Monday.
Weight has held steady around 170, fluctuating 1-2 lbs either side depending on when I weigh. I consider that a success since I lost probably 25 lbs throughout 2010 and have managed to keep it off for about 7 months now. 2/25/2011 11:39:26 AM |

Ran 12.1 miles yesterday and took some pics.
Really happy that I've stayed below 190, for the most part, over the last week.
But I'm sticking to 1000 calorie restriction per day until I can maintain a steady 180 - 185 fluctuation.
This is my updated progress pic for the end of February at 183.2 lbs.

What kind of ab/lower back work do you guys do? I always feel like I'm not hitting it hard enough because I simply never feel DOMS there, but do everywhere else.
Now that most of my pudge is gone, I really feel like I should ass some more ab work but just don't know what exercises are good/recommended.
^ nice job -- I'm envious that you are able to keep to your routine so strictly. It's always a struggle for me, though I finally feel like I'm doing better.

forget crunches:
I'd suggest doing planks for 30 seconds, longer if you can. work up to 90 second sets. Then: do side planks front planks, lifting one arm front planks, lifting one leg front planks, lifting one arm and one leg
you'll more than likely feel those 2/27/2011 9:32:47 PM |

^ don't weigh yourself once a day. it doesn't do you any good. i probably won't weigh myself for the next four weeks cause i'm trying to just stay focused on working out and increasing muscle mass, rather than being so focused on the numbers 2/28/2011 8:10:20 PM |

you feel exhausted because you're not eating
if you lose weight by not eating, you're probably gonna just gain it all back
you're supposed to eat your recommended daily allowance of calories every day or at least a small deficit away from them or you're gonna feel like crap and have no energy

ok so.....
i have been working out pretty much every chance I get. this makes me have THE HUNGER and i keep going way over my ww points
i'm kinda bummed out about it b/c after steadily going down 2 pounds a week for about a month, i've only lost .5 in the past two weeks
i'm not really eating bad stuff. but i find myself absolutely STARVING every few hours or so. you'd think all the gym time would help even out the eating but i guess not.
what should I be eating that will fill me up without totally blowing my diet?
but yay i just ran 4 miles and it wasn't even a horrible struggle or anything. that kinda blows my mind as i was having issues just running one when i started ] 3/1/2011 12:36:32 AM |

^^ Beans. Well, legumes, technically. Good source of proteins without lots of carbs and very filling.
If you can add them to a meal, do it. It helps to fill you up without killing your diet. 3/1/2011 4:00:23 AM |

i wouldn't stress too much. you have to factor in that you're building muscle as well so while the scale might not go down as much as it did in the beginning, it doesn't necessarily mean you're not losing weight. especially since you just said you can run 4 miles without struggling - that takes some good muscle build to be able to accomplish that keep it up.3/1/2011 8:07:59 AM |

My experiment to go all of February doing nothing but cardio worked out pretty well. I lost five pounds. I also cut out mostly cut out carbs. I used to have a lot of rice with dinner, and I discovered I didn't really miss it when I didn't.

I'll say, I'm amazed i am still weighing the same as before I packed the scale. I've had fast food TWICE, I ate a few girl scout cookies, pizza, etc but only eating just a little bit of each. I guess I've worked my ass off enough to burn the right calories to keep the weight steady. Back to the gym tonight even though my throat hurts! 3/1/2011 10:10:57 AM |

As long as you're not going overboard, none of those things are going to kill you if you eat them in small amounts. It's just that usually the people that eat those things, eat them on a consistent basis and ingest more calories than they need/can burn off. 3/1/2011 10:40:20 AM |

QFT. I was down to about 146 (147?) from not eating... within 2-3 weeks of being off Adderall I went back up like 5 lbs.
I've been doing a lot of stress eating lately. Anyone have any tips for this? I'm craving carbs like a motherfucker. Granted, this past week has been "that time" so I guess I'm a little biased towards chocolate and brown sugar atm.
Speaking of brown sugar - for the past month or so I have been obsessed with it it seriously is like crack to me. My particularly bad habit is having buttered toast with brown sugar on top. I'm trying to switch to peanut butter on rice cakes with a tinyyy bit of brown sugar on top... It's good... but not like, buttered brown sugar toast good. Le sigh. Willpower is needed.3/3/2011 12:31:21 AM |
dropdeadkate nerdlord 11725 Posts user info edit post |
will power is a huge part of it
I have stuff written on my bathroom mirror to keep me motivated as I have to look at it several times a day
it has stuff like "did you go to the gym today?" and "NO excuses". idk it's cheesey i guess but it guilts me into sticking to my diet/workout when i'm maybe not feeling like it. and it stops me from going "well I had bad day i DESERVE this entire bottle of wine/bowl of icecream/etc" b/c thats how i usually talk myself into thinking it's ok to put that kind of stuff into my face.
idk if that will work for you, or anyone else for the matter.
they also have splenda brown sugar. idk how it tastes i haven't tried it, but it's an option?] 3/3/2011 4:13:13 AM |

Just wanted to let tdub know I'm putting a Half Ironman on my calendar for 10/29 to give me a reason to get back in shape. Currently sitting at about 16% bodyfat at 187 lbs. I'm initially going to hit the bike and swimming hard for a few months to get my weight down before trying to do a lot of running. I think this will save a little wear and tear on my knees and make it so I can go faster and longer as the running miles ramp up.
For reference, I was doing sprint tris in '06 and weighed 159 the night before the Wilmington Sprint in September that year.

i've been the same way - i don't know what it is but recently i've been on a BIG chocolate/sugar kick.
i track all my stuff in my Spark People app on my phone so if i do want some hershey kisses or an andes mint (damn you coworker for bringing the good stuff into work!) i make sure i track it and then not eat anything else super sugary or chocolatey that day. i try to balance it - like if i know i'm going to be having a drink later on that day - i tell myself "no you can't have the chocolate - step away from it!"
it's weird - i never was one to crave sweets before. my weeklong love affair with nutella cranked me into sugar overload and it's been hard to break ever since
but today i am staying away from the krispy kreme donuts!!! i have my 8K on saturday

i LOVE some condy. love love love.
what "worked" for me? i have a ton of it. i mean a lot on top of my microwave. in plain site. girl scout cookies, jelly beans, reeses cups, and those basket eggs. if i feel the need. most of them are portioned out. if i feel like some i go in there and grab a reeses, or a couple of j bean (they are in once once cups so i know how much ), and a peep or two. usually this is at least once (sometimes twice) a day. it averages out to about 100 - 130 cals. and i dont even do it every day....it's weird its like, since i know i can have it at any time, i don't "crave" it as much.
don't get me wrong i still will go on a bender of candy like once every 3 weeks to a month... or so but that is ALOT better than what it used to be
its weird, but it's like i think to myself if i can have a little everyday so while i still like it it gets old. (i equate it to ruckus pizza...gooder dan hell but when you eat it every.single.day...you want something different )
and it also took me like 3 weeks of candy binging to get to that point and this "method" is probably not for everyone lol 3/3/2011 9:17:29 AM |

if you're going to build a home based workout, I suggest going with a kettlebell swing routine, you can build your own kettlebell too with a few weights and a trip to home depot, should be cheaper and just as effective as an actual kettlebell
