What the hell is going on with Punkbuster as of late? One day this past week I was kicked repeated for "failure to respond to queries." Now today I see that I'm apparently using a gamehack. WTF. I haven't changed a single thing since day 1 of installation. I'm level 46, and for some reason, it now thinks I'm using a hack? I appreciate the backhanded compliment, but I'm not that good and I damn sure don't cheat. 2/9/2012 5:55:47 PM |

I had the same problem. I did the pbsetup update manually and it all went away. Sometimes just restarting can do it. PB has been going schizo lately. 2/12/2012 3:11:35 PM |

Wow, do I hate Punkbuster now. I keep getting different messages whenever I get disconnected, and I don't understand what any of them mean. I filled out a support ticket with Even Balance and included every single violation number which I've seen, and all that they would tell me is "we do not find this violation to be triggered in error." They wouldn't explain what any of the codes mean or what is causing them to be triggered, and then they went and locked the ticket. I responded back and unlocked it and asked them how I'm supposed to fix this problem or prevent it from continuing, and all they did this time was permanently lock the ticket so that I can't even inquire any further. What. The. Hell. I've manually installed the update, so I don't know if that is going to do any good or not. My disappointment with this game continues to grow by the day. 2/13/2012 8:03:09 AM |

Well to be honest that's not really the game's fault, PB != BF3. Though I understand your frustration. I had, temporarily, the same issue. Even better it didn't even give me a reason. 2/13/2012 12:17:04 PM |

New favorite loadout.
Assault w m16 iron silenced, 44 magnum, and m26 dart.
I run m26 like a main weapon. Switch to m16 for long range.
M26 is ohk at close-mid range. More powerful per shot than even the 870 IMO. Only problem is there is anoticeable delay in the hitmarkers showing up and the person dying 2/16/2012 11:49:56 AM |

True. I like to run the 870MCS and the M26. On metro is 14 shotgun rounds ready to plow through some people. Just focus on range control and go to town on unsuspecting saps.
You don't like the RDS or holo on the m16?

Yup, sniper rifles with acog is da shit. Been playing hardcore mode with a similar recon setup and its beastly. I just wish the acog filled the entire screen, cause its insanely stupid how your dude would not have his eye right on the sight, but a foot away so its only 3 inches big on your screen... 2/16/2012 12:44:11 PM |

Exactly, if you went 60 something and ZERO then it would be something to look at. Origin came back up after a hour or so. That's the biggest downside to having a centralized authentication scheme.

I just played on a server on which I saw something I just couldn't believe.
Players were being kicked... as part of this server's official rules... for killing other players... with the RPG/SMAW.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! What kind of pussy nonsense is that?! Is that really what this game has devolved into?! Everything has to be so watered down now because people complain about it? How, in any way, are the rocket launchers in this game overpowered?

I can only understand this on metro, all other maps it's fair game. In metro 4 guys with ammo can hold half the map with a stream of rpgs/320's. So there it can be over powered, most metro only servers do not have restrictions. But honestly that map is best with 32 players (full sized map), explosives or not, b/c it becomes significantly easier to overwhelm one of the major paths on both sides. Back and forth breakouts on that map are rather fun. 2/21/2012 8:54:27 AM |
JBaz All American 16764 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, the only maps that have the no rocket policy is for metro 24/7 servers. And I've played way more hours than anyone here according to the leaderboard... lol
Besides, they usually have the rules right in the title of the server so unless you join off a friend or a complete fucking idiot who can't read--leave the server if you no likey. I like the 64 man servers with no rpg/320's myself, but I've been banned on a lot of them now. 2/21/2012 9:17:15 AM |
Arab13 Art Vandelay 45180 Posts user info edit post |
What's worse is when it's not obvious that something is banned, like shotguns. When it's not in the title how can you expect someone to know that 6 weapons are banned?] 2/21/2012 9:47:05 AM |

This particular server is based in England, and had been on my favorites list for a very long time since it runs 64-man mixed mode games. I hadn't played on it for a while until last night. There was no mention of "no RPG" in the title or description - I only saw it in the chat box when the automated ban messages started appearing. In a 10-minute period I must have seen a dozen people get kicked because they didn't know about the policy. Also, even though the map being played was Metro, other players said that this policy is across all maps. That basically means that you don't DARE try to take out a tank now for fear of being kicked. I promptly removed that server from my favorites.
Also, I'd like to give a big middle finger to Punkbuster. They have decided to ban Autohotkey for ANY kind of use whatsoever, which means that remapping keys in this game is now substantially more difficult. However, I do have a programmable mouse and keyboard, so I have had to resort to those. With a little bit of experimentation, I also finally figured out how to spot repeatedly while aiming down sights (which I've done since 2142, thank you very much) without needing a macro. I've seen some pretty ridiculous cheating and hacking going on in this game, and if you want to call this cheating, then you just go right ahead and do so. I call it increasing common sense, communication, and teamwork. 2/21/2012 11:10:42 AM |

I do the circle method myself, people say I run hacks because it looks suspicious when I'm shaking like a crack addict and get headshots. LOL
Its that the damn acog and most other non-rifle scopes isn't directly up to your eye so the casing blocks a lot of your immediate viewing angle. 2/21/2012 4:21:21 PM |
Arab13 Art Vandelay 45180 Posts user info edit post |
LoL. Well, you don't stick your eye on a ACOG sight. it does float out there. If you want it to cover more of the screen adjust your resolution / monitor size. That may not be a viable option but that's the way the sight types are set up. 2/23/2012 12:40:29 AM |
JBaz All American 16764 Posts user info edit post |
Its 3 fucking inches from you eye. From that distance, the scope should take a much larger view of angle than the pathetic BF3 view. I mean it should take up somewhere around 50% of your immediate view.
Seriously, stick a ruler in front of your eye and guess where the scope would be at. 3-4 inches. Then see how much area a relative sized scope would take up from that distance and you'll see what I'm talking about.
In BF3, it looks like you are viewing from the butt of the gun, almost 8 inches away.

OK, got another joystick + jet flying question for anybody who might know. I've seen several games recently where players have almost been able to "hang" their jets in the air in what is as close to a stall as the game engine will allow. (I spent a 1500-ticket game in the Tunguska just hunting jets and observing them. It was SO much fun, and I only died once.) Even with a flight stick and throttle, I can't come close to replicating that kind of behavior. I'm wondering if the jet throttle would respond more "accurately" to a repeated press of the key which controls throttle down. Let's say that if you're flying with keyboard and mouse, and you have throttle down mapped to G, are you HOLDING G to make the plane decelerate, or are you repeatedly TAPPING G to get it to decelerate? I ask this because I believe that the flight stick throttle - when set to "down" - is set up to simulate a single press of G instead of a repeated tap. I could potentially go into my Saitek joystick software and set up a repeat key press for the throttle down band. This is so much hassle for such a shitty aerial combat mechanic.
I'll be pleasantly surprised if anyone else has actually wondered this... 2/26/2012 8:29:49 PM |

This is what it looks like on my screen. The acog eye piece is only around 4-5% of the screen real-estate of your viewing area on the computer; keep in mind that your viewing area is much much smaller than human capabilities in real life. 75-90 degrees compared to near 180.

that looks pretty accurate to me as far as what a acog looks like IRL.
I have a Eotech and a Trijicon Acog for my ar15... Trijicon is a 4x zoom just like in game. Its designed to be shot both eyes open so you have a pretty similar view to what is in the game. 2/27/2012 12:24:39 PM |

In real life, the acog is suppose to give you magnification abilities while having a good bit of peripheral vision on the left and right of the attachment. So it should take up 1/3-1/2 of your total angle of view; glass and casing included.
Except the game actually zooms in your Peripheral because the engine will not allow for two separate renderings; they did this as a compromise because of the console port. So in essence your Peripheral while looking down the sights becomes in effect a much narrower field of view and on high resolutions, the point of perspective isn't the same as lower resolutions.
and when I said 4-5% screen restate, that's only with the narrow 75-90 degree field of view that your pc monitor is showing, and that doesn't account for the magnification of your Peripheral's from the game engine, so that can be more like 35 or less field of view. So in essence, that 4-5% goes down to 2% of your overall field of view if you want to represent this in real life perspective, when in fact it should be close to 20-25% with another 10-15% for the casing; everything else is your Peripheral vision. 2/28/2012 1:06:19 AM |

Glad I could be of assistance.
I was under the impression your point is that the acog blocks too much of your field of view. As you can see (or can't see) a 10 foot garage door and a car are Obscured by the scope body and the zoom 3/2/2012 12:32:10 PM |
JBaz All American 16764 Posts user info edit post |
No no, my point was that it's not taking up enough of your field of view in game. Take your picture and image it as a human perspective. So the standard normal angle of view of a camera that matches our eye's perspective is 53 degrees. With near 180 degrees peripheral vision and that the acog almost takes up your photo, you are left with about 63 degrees of view on either side of the scope. 3/2/2012 1:27:56 PM |

Yeah, its a bit odd how they separated the assignments out like that.
I really do wish they make more co-ops for this game; one of the most underrated things about BF series games was the ability to just do a 4 man vs 30 PC LAN sessions. I would buy extra BF3 copies for my other computers to have friends over and do the old stomp the comp gaming like from 1942 and BF2 days. 3/5/2012 3:46:53 AM |
