For the record, I think Keatts gets another year because he did then a “favor” during the ncaa stuff and boo wants to not pay the buyout. Barring an epic meltdown in the last two games.

With that said:

Sean miller leads the way. Yow wanted him before. Also candidates, Lamont Paris, Pat Kelsey, Greg McDermott, mick cronin, Nate oats, dusty may, will wade(was offered the job before Keatts), buzz Williams all deserve an interview.

I’d also consider Justin gainey as a top candidate.

Everybody remembers that it was Will Wade or KK last time around.

But I think given State’s NCAA stuff from the Gott/Early/DSJ stuff and then Will Wade’s NCAA trouble, it’s probably something this AD isn’t gonna pursue. Even though the landscape has changed and some of that feels pretty distant, I don’t think we’ll go in that direction.

Idk. I feel like now more than ever this is a talent acquisition thing. Xs and Os matter obviously. But roster management, NIL support from fans, HS and portal recruiting are all super important. I don’t think it necessarily has to be a coach with a long proven track record as a head coach

Depth doesn’t equal talent. Clearly things didn’t go as planned this year with the depth the roster has. Morsell got worse. Burns didn’t get better. MJ Rice decided to redshirt. MOC kinda sucks. Pass and Ross aren’t ACC players. I’m assuming Thomas isn’t either since he never plays. KK’s rotations are certainly something to question.

This team is clearly lacking top end talent. Which is the responsibility of the coach. Don’t misconstrue what I’m saying as a defense of KK. Coaching obviously matters. But KKs biggest failing is not getting better players here. I’m surprised that’s apparently a controversial comment

For me, not controversial, but it's a yes and...

...he doesn't maximize the talent we do have and his rotations are pretty confusing and they have to be infuriating for a player. Maybe LJ isn't ACC material, but he sits the bench until midway through the season where he gets big minutes in a game or two (and looks competent in initiating the offense) and then finds his way back to the bench immediately after never to be seen again? Middlebrooks can't hit the broad side of a barn and fouls every defensive possession, but he is somehow more capable than Ross who looked decent at times last season? Parker and Pass's minutes were all over the place too. None of these dudes are likely to be world beaters, but they also haven't necessarily had a ton of chance to build confidence in games.

My read is that Keatts puts too high a value on these dudes like Taylor and Middlebrooks who look super active defensively and suck on the offensive end because that's his system.

LJ, Parker and Ross are all probably gone now and we are literally starting from scratch next season with MOC, Taylor, a 4 star freshman, Mo and Rice as our center pieces? And that's if Keatts stays.

Mo is actually the only promising offensive player of that bunch. We'd have to get several DJ Horne quality playmakers in the portal to even be middling again next season.

I agree with most everything ^^ but Middlebrooks can play the 5 and Ross can’t. And at the 4 position Mo is ahead of Ross and DPJ is ahead of Ross. And sometimes we will go with a guard heavy lineup and not really have a true 4 on the floor at all and just have Burns at the 5.

Ross flashed at times last year. I think the GT and Miami games come to mind for me.

Eh, i know Keatt's preference is to play a true 5 but aside from a handful of defensive matchups (Bacot comes to mind, although he toasted DJ too), most college teams don't play with a 5 who would abuse Ross on the post. And Ross's offensive (and in transition) upside over Middlebrooks would outweigh whatever the negatives there are defensively IMO.

But again, that's Keatts' system. He wants his points to come from steals and transition...which don't end up coming against competent teams. So if you aren't a scrappy, high motor, gym rat, lunch pail, gritty dude appearing to get after it up and down the court, then you aren't getting time for Keatts. It just sucks for Ross because I expected him to be a contributor this season and he got buried on the bench instead. I don't see any way that Parker, Ross, and LJ are back next year.

Strong disagree. Ross is like the skinniest dude on the court. Opposing teams could have a 6'6 center abuse Ross because he'd outweigh him by 40lb.

Honestly, I'm not. Pass is (relatively) local and not a super high rated recruit (his offer list for basketball was much less impressive than football despite being a 4 star bb recruit.) If anyone was gonna stick around despite not playing, I'd think it would be him.

It was mentioned multiple times that Ross was battling an injury(s?) earlier in the season. I'm not sure if it's true, how long it lasted and how much effect it had on his playing time throughout the season. But it was mentioned multiple times.

Ross does not have offensive upside over anyone on the team. He's athletic, but in his (limited) time he looks lost offensively and defensively

when he is on the floor you look for him to block some shots and get some dunks, that's about it

Not saying Keatts is necessarily going anywhere this year. But since we're playing this game....

Any thoughts on Richard Pitino? In hindsight, his results at Minnesota don't look so bad. And he has turned New Mexico around. (side note: it seems odd that they are #28 in the NET yet still on the bubble, but that's another topic altogether)
