Vandy could be good if he learned how to use his body to box out and seal better. All he needs to do is get boards and put backs. Se the occasional screen. We don't need him to handle the ball like tracy 10/16/2010 10:55:13 PM |

V'berg shouldn't have to do much this year. He'll be useful as an upperclassman. Most of those tall africans who get drafted in the lottery look like theyve never played basketball for most of their college career too, but they get blocks and rebound pretty well. Vandenberg already does that. All we have to do is get him from full retard to normal retard on offense and he'll be fine 10/17/2010 12:22:56 AM |

Everybody knows you never go full retard.
What do you mean?
Check it out. Dustin Hoffman, Rain Man, looked retarded, act retarded, not retarded. Count toothpicks, cheat at cards. Autistic, sure. Not retarded. Then you got Tom Hanks, Forrest Gump. Slow, yes, retarded, maybe, braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon, and he won a Ping-Pong competition. That ain't retarded. And he was a goddamn war hero. You know any retarded war heroes? You went full retard, man. Never go full retard. You don't buy that? Ask Sean Penn, 2001, I Am Sam. Remember? Went full retard? Dominique Pointer (Winston-Salem) committed to St. John's. Now that they have 3 small forwards committed and 5 total recruits, I think it's safe to say now that Tyler Harris won't be playing college ball for his home state. Even if St. John's wasn't much of a factor before in his recruiting, it appears that it's not an option anymore. 10/19/2010 9:53:16 AM |

Quote : | "The latest news on Quinn Cook has the coveted 2011 PG down to just three possible landing spots.
"Just talked to Quinn Cook, down to Duke, UCLA and Villanova. Already visited Duke and UCLA. Says he'll visit 'Nova Oct. 22" reported ESPN recruiting analyst Reggie Rankin via Twitter.
Cook was taking his time arranging a visit to Kansas, and now seems to have dropped the notion of becoming a Jayhawk.
Duke has ties to Cook through senior guard Nolan Smith and the Blue Devils' top recent verbal commit, Austin Rivers. UCLA has also made a strong push for Cook of late that has put coach Ben Howland and the Bruins squarely in the mix to land him. Villanova is hot on the trail of several lead guards, and clearly has a chance of getting Cook to commit." |

Great ESPN evaluation:
Rodriguez is a tough and strong point guard. He competes on both ends of the floor and plays with great urgency. He has good not great speed and quickness but can get to the basket because of his toughness and he is strong for his size where he can finish with either hand. He struggled to shoot the ball at times but is respectable enough that the defense must pay attention. He is a good ball handler but at times played a little to loose which resulted in a few turnovers
The compliment sandwich review. 10/19/2010 4:48:16 PM |

We've missed out on several potential 2011 PGs, but I'll trust Sid. And trust that Harrow will handle most of the PG duties in '11. 10/19/2010 8:02:44 PM |

I'm basing my analysis on significantly more than that (highlights, other offers, scout and rivals' rankings, etc). At some point if we want to be a legitimate program again we're going to have to stop settling for borderline 2/3 star guys, that isn't the kind of player that's going to take us where we want to go.10/19/2010 8:27:27 PM |
Bullet All American 28417 Posts user info edit post |
I realize that. But we're not exactly "legitimate" (yet), and it's unlikely we'd get 2 elite pg's in back-to-back years. I'd be ok with a serviceable guard to back Harrow and Brown for now. 10/19/2010 8:40:16 PM |

I'm not analyzing anything. I thought it was a funny review which is sort of a standard in the recruiting environment. You take all the negatives in the kid's game and try to spin it into a semi-positive statement. No doubt we need a PG next year, so if Sid can groom him like he did Javi, he'll be a decent guard by at least his junior year (yes Javi haters, he was solid last season).
In Javi's defense, he was thrust into the game immediately and played in all 31 games his freshman year. He was pretty terrible but his stats have improved over the years in ppg and assists (though he shot better as a sophomore but only played in 22 games). If Angel can play behind Harrow, he'll probably make a smoother transition but this is all conjecture. If you suck, then there's little you can do about it.10/19/2010 9:33:47 PM |

So if we were to hypothetically get Tyler Lewis and Rodney Purvis in 2012 (Purvis supposedly may reclassify for 2012), we'd play Lewis at PG and Purvis at SG right? By then Harrow and Brown would be juniors and potentially on their way to the NBA, with Harrow probably staying all 4 years and Brown potentially going after 3. I'd like that b/c although Lewis and Purvis are talented they wouldn't be expected to come in and start right away. 10/19/2010 11:20:23 PM |

Is Rodney Purvis a pipe dream or is it really a possibility? Seems like Sid gets the jump on kids early to get them interested in the program but I don't know if this follows the Wall/Leslie/Harrow trend. 10/19/2010 11:35:03 PM |

Just from my personal obvservations, it seems like Purvis is genuinely up in the air. He also got to play with our guys this summer at the NC Pro Am, which may have helped sway him at least a little more in our direction. I think once this basketball season starts, it will do a lot towards showing big name recruits like Purvis where we plan on going with the program. 10/20/2010 12:05:19 AM |

Quote : | "N.C. STATE
Number of players on scholarship this season: 10
Players set to graduate in 2011: Tracy Smith, Javi Gonzalez
Potential early departures: C.J. Leslie
Committed Class of 2011 recruits: Joseph Uchebo (center)
Other Class of 2011 prospects on the radar: DeAndre Daniels (forward), Tyler Harris (wing), Kevin Thomas (wing), Alonzo Nelson-Ododa (power forward)
What to watch: With Smith entering his final season and Leslie hoping to become a one-and-done player, the Wolfpack coaching staff may need to get serious about finding additional frontcourt talent to build around. Guards Scott Wood, Ryan Harrow and Lorenzo Brown will give State a promising perimeter for the foreseeable future. But they'll need some additional big bodies inside to truly flourish.
The Wolfpack has three sophomore big men in Richard Howell, DeShawn Painter and Jordan Vandenberg. All have potential but cannot yet be considered can't-miss playmakers for the next three seasons.
Of the Class of 2011 prospects on State's radar, DeAndre Daniels may be the most intriguing. After offering a verbal commitment to Texas in the summer of 2009, Daniels backed off that pledge and reopened his recruitment two months ago. Since then, the Pack coaching staff has begun a relationship with Daniels, who can play both small forward and power forward.
Daniels, rated No. 34 in the 2011 class by Scout, was originally a 2010 prospect but later reclassified and is attending the IMG Academy in Florida this year. He is touted as having great scoring instincts and an ability to be a weapon in transition.
The staff at State has made such an impression recently that Daniels is reportedly set to attend Friday night's "Red Rally" at Reynolds Coliseum, significant news for a program eager to add to its 2011 class.
Tyler Harris, meanwhile, is the brother of Tennessee freshman Tobias Harris. Said to have a sound understanding of the game and the versatility to score in different ways, Tyler isn't thought to have as much talent or upside as his older brother. But he'd be a terrific piece for Wolfpack coach Sidney Lowe to add to the puzzle.
Iowa, St. John's and Providence are the other schools left recruiting Harris." |

Sid said we had good players that could make a great team. The anchors were just talking about how we reached the "magical" 20 wins but still had a losing ACC record and fell out of the NIT. They put up a graphic showing Tracy, Javi, and Scott as the only returning starters.
Even though Sid wasn't on live, it was still really nice to see State getting some attention on SC. They didn't seem as excited as when they talked to Roy and K, but hey, what do you expect? 10/20/2010 1:07:00 PM |
