Tyler Harris is going to announce on November 5. Also we made the final cut for Nelson-Ododa and Desmond Hubert.

Nevermind, sarcasm doesn't work across two pages.

Still would like to know the Baylor edge, though.

Dang, they have another 5* center commited for 2012.

Their edge is Dwon Clifton, John Wall's former "handler" and AAU coaches brother. Dwon is also an alum of the same NC private school where Bello and Miller play. Nothing shady going on there at all.....

I don't remember what school Dwon went to, I just remember he's from High Point.

And on Baylor's recruiting edge, Scott Drew is one of the dirtiest coaches in D1 Basketball.

Like I said earlier, its Westchester Academy, the same school as Miller and Bello.

So what other school is Alonzo Nelson-Ododa down to? Rivals says he's down to two, one of them being us, but on his profile page it shows us listed with Cal and Richmond as High Interest. I know Richmond was the first school on him, and that usually goes a long way, but Cal is in a power-6 conference and is coached by Mike Montgomery, who is a damn fine coach.

I too went to Highschool with Dwon. I graduated a year before him, so he may have transferred somewhere his senior year, but from 9-11 he was at the croft.

I'm excited to hear Harris' decision. Rivals shows he has an OV scheduled with St. John's on 10/29, right before he's supposed to announce. But since they already have 5 commitments (3 of which are small forwards), I wouldn't think that they are a factor.

But this snippet from Zags Blog this week baffled me:

Quote :
"[St. John's Coach] Lavin’s first class now includes Lindsey, Pointer, Maurice Harkless, JaKarr Sampson and D’Angelo Harrison.

He has five more scholarships to give, and sources said he may opt to sign seven high school players and three JUCOs."

WTF? Does anyone know what's going on here? NYM?

I think we have a good shot, although I don't know if he wants to stay close to home and play in the Big East.

Has anyone ever been to Waco? I'm trying to figure out how Baylor isn't cheating to get these top recruits. My roommate, who is from Texas, said it's a fun place, which was odd to me b/c I've never heard of such. I've learned that people from Texas tend to exaggerate how great things from there are.

It is good, but you can find it in other places outside of Texas.

I miss pulled pork BBQ. It seems like you can only get it good on the east coast.

Nelson-Ododa Gives Verbal Pledge to Richmond

Quote :
"Richmond reeled in their fourth 2011 verbal commitment.

Alonzo Nelson-Ododa, of Norcross (Ga.) High, gave Chris Mooney and his staff a pledge Monday evening, picking the Spiders over strong interest from North Carolina State.

“I thought that Richmond had a solid plan for my development and they showed me how I would be utilized in their system," Nelson-Ododa said. "The Richmond staff had been recruiting me the longest and hardest and I thought that showed their commitment to making me a better player and helping me reach my goals”

Nelson-Ododa joins a solid 2011 recruiting class for Mooney. Also committed are Luke Piotrowski, Trey Davis and Kendall Anthony.

During his junior at Winder-Barrow, Nelson-Ododa averaged 14 points, eight rebounds and three blocks per game. His new coach Jesse McMillan has big expectations for his career at Richmond.

“Alonzo is a terrific young man that has a very bright future ahead of him," McMillan said. "He is very skilled around the rim and has the ability to step out and really shoot the ball. We expect him to be a contributor very early in his career at Richmond”

Richmond assistant Jamal Brunt was the point man for Nelson-Ododa, a 6-foot-8, 210-pound post prospect."

Lavin is no saint. He's a great recruiter and exactly what St. John's needs, but he will have no conscious about not renewing scholarships for guys he doesn't want. That said, of their 14 players, 10 are seniors this year.

They have TONS and TONS of scholarships available.

Did Tyler Harris blow up? All I remember about him from the past few years is that he was basically only being recruited by high-majors in hopes of getting his asshole Dad's ears to get Tobias to go to the school, too... TBH, I haven't following him at all since Tobias decided to go to Sleezy Pearl.

Yeah, I don't necessarily think anything he did was all that heinous at all. Shit, UConn's in a lot more shit than Pearl is at UT... I just don't like the way he carries himself and the whole UofI thing. Not a huge deal and I don't hate him, just don't think he is the most honest person in the world is all.

The 2011 class's freshman year we'll have Howell, Painter, and Vandy in the post. Add Leslie maybe staying one more year, and JU's commitment, and PT that year is going to be scarce for anyone else. We need another player in the post for depth incase shit happens and so there's someone on roster after some or all of those guys leave. So I don't consider a project in the post is a bad idea if you think you can make something of him his junior/senior years.

I've said it before, but while he probably isn't going to be on anyone's 5 star list, he will be a good player for us. He has good perimeter skills and great size.

Quote :

While I think Harris is ours, I think it might have more to do with Daniels. Just a guess, but I'd think he'd be the one competing more directly for PT with potential Ododa

I hang out on Kansas boards sometimes to talk basketball, and over there I've heard a few stories about Drew from them and other Big XII fans. There is truth to some of those stories, especially when you factor in bringing in a certain Clifton.

Harris will announce Nov. 5. ESPNU is interested in on doing it live

Harris will visit St. John during Halloween weekend. His older sister plays for the Red Storm women’s basketball team (she’s sitting out this season as a transfer from Delaware). SJU has landed three small forwards and two shooting guards so far so playing time should be an issue

Harris seems to really like NC State and Providence, with Iowa probably too far away. The other issue that favors us is that Providence, St. John’s and Iowa are rebuilding

My God. I had to look it up on their athletics website just to see it with my own eyes. No wonder they're having so much recruiting success.

Out of their ten seniors, 5 are guards and 5 are forwards. So with only 3 forward recruits signed so far, it's not out of the question for them to sign a few more. Although I'd think they'd want to sign a center or power forward or both - not another wing.
