from the sidenotes about USC and Penn State, I'd imagine the fact that UNC only has one year of bowl bans compared to Penn State's 4 has pushed the Nittany Lions down near the y-axis

Didn't someone in here post an article on a different page about someone involved in athletics at another school who didn't get away with using that excuse because the other students were just collateral for a system obviously put in place to help athletes?

Not breaking any actual NCAA rules, but doing something highly morally disgusting: banhammer.
HS student works with you for 3+ years to make sure his HS classes are acceptable to you: wait until two weeks before fall classes start to actually look at his classes.
Fake college classes to maintain athlete elegibility: Perfectly OK.

I think all of you people are falling into the UNC PR trap. This isn't any sort of final ruling from the NCAA. Considering how vague the actual release from UNC is it's hard to say what it actually means, but the panel of independent investigators hasn't even begun to do work yet so there is nothing for UNC to have to fess up to the NCAA about yet.
