They really had to change some things, though. Otherwise Mags could have done everything Phoenix did (and more), while drinking his more cup of coffee. And Phoenix could have destroyed solar systems if not galaxies.

i got what i expected, and since i didn't pay anything to see it i can't complain. was entertaining, some things were a straight up travesty though. And i keep waiting for rogue to be fucking useful, god damnit they need to give her fucking super powers all ready, but no.... she's just fucking useless and a drain on the movie.

along with the super-ex, and superman, my print also had a ghost rider preview.... that shit looks fucking tight.

argh

and the worst part for me

i honestly think someone gave ratner some copies of the avengers disassembled stories
and he was like "lets have jean turn into the scarlet witch"

and everyone was like "Well actually she turns into the phoenix sir"

and he was like "fuck that, whatever, scarlet witch, phoenix, whatever; they're both red right?"

AND LETS THROW IN AN INTERNET MEME WHILE WE'RE AT IT

That's true... she really wasn't very much like the Phoenix at all.

But the Phoenix is really cosmic. I don't think Hollywood is ready to face cosmic shit yet.

it gonna be interesting if they make a number 4.... they'll have to pull out the oh, that was the pheonix

honestly

go read the avengers disassembed TPB

ps

you remember that episode of the simpsons where they skewer george lucas
and comic book guy walks out and is like "worst space wars ever, i will only be seeing it 3 more times, today"

thats kinda how i feel

cause i know i'm going to see it at least one more time, and it'll prolly be memorial day or sunday

maybe the second time around will amplify the highs (which there were) and muffle the lows

^^ I understand how you feel. I "hated" The Return of the King when I first saw it (and it was a better moive than X-3, too).

I were a bit more of an X-Men fan, I might agree with you.

yeah

if they hadn't nailed wolvie in #1, i would have maybe made 1 & 3 equals

but after the first viewing of 3, i fully agree with that ranking

(ps, i still hope it makes 115+ opening weekend, 350+ domestic, 600+ total)

It's as good as #1, if only for the action scenes. The first Wolvie throw looked lame, but after that everything kicked ass.

The fights in #1 were rather weak.

but i'm fully ready to move past magneto

it was nice seeing him and charles as younger, bright eyed and optimistic individuals

but its time to move on to some more enemies...

I can't agree. I love Ian McKellen too much.

Mr. Sinister or something would kick ass, though.

But that won't work after this movie. A lot of stuff won't work.

"X-Men 3 really appeals to anyone who actually READS the X-Men comic books. "

YOU ARE HAVING AN EFFING LAUGH RIGHT!??! I thought completely the opposite as I was sitting watching it, this movie is fine for casual fans and 10yo, keeping that in mind and repeating to myself "watch the whole thing before you judge" is what kept me from walking out after the first fifteen minutes.

As I said I think there are a lot of great things, and I'll probably see it at least once more in the theatre, but you can't just splice together a lot of cool scenes with some crappy exposition by Storm "Oh my, Jean killed the man she loved." "There's nothing wrong with us." "If you're with us, oh wait yeah, why did you have to come back to the mansion again? To pick up some shaving creme?" and get a good movie. There were a lot of individual scenes that were great (I about cried during Xavier's scene) but the overall movie was lackluster, particuarly after the bar of X2.

My biggest problem, which I've pretty much said before but I think this movie really illustrates why its such a big problem is Cyclops. Really I didn't expect them to do much else with that character in this movie, however I couldn't help but thinking. If they had actually developed his character some in the first two, his and Jeans relationship, or what a bedrock he is for the X-men his death might have actually had some impact (OMG the X-men's leader was just killed by the woman that loved him in the first 10 minutes). As it was it was pretty much like, ok so that's how you're writing that guy that's been in a collective 8 scenes throught this trilogy out of this movie. His death should have had as much impact as Xaviers really. Oh wait but Storm reminded us Jean used to sleep with him. Also the fact that the best part of Cyclops' character is that no matter what tragedy happened he would take a break then get on with it for the team, not "He's a changed man since Jean died, as the highest paid actress, I mean next leader why don't you take over my dream". Instead we get a lameo killoff (which I'm sure most people who have just watched the movies like), rather than an increadible 1-2 of Jean picking off sevearl key people in the first twenty minutes.

I didn't expect much, but a halfway decent characterization of I dunno, half the team, would have been nice, I don't think that's a lot to ask.

More characterization of Scott would have just made the audience applaud when Jean killed him.

He's a dick.

I realize it wasn't going to happen in this movie, I just think it illustrates why having cut him out brings the whole story down. I realize I'm in the minority here.

Also, you don't have to love a character for them to have impact, they can be a character you're supposed to love to hate.

Yeah, there really is so much you could do with his character. Some of it involves space, though, and we know Hollywood won't go there.

I was rather surprised they took him out, especially so quickly.

We never even got a decent Wolvie vs. Scott fight...

In a way I appreciated that they did it so quick, they didn't bother dicking around with him and having him in random scenes through the movie. At least they're honest about, we don't really think we can do much with this character so lets get to Jean.

Depends on how lame they decided to go, Magneto did say Jean could do anything she tought.

In a way though I think the fact that this kinda broke the mold of comic book stories, in that normally when anyone in a comic dies I'm kinda like, I wonder how long they'll stay that way. With this its seems like there was more finality.

A lot of awesome comic book shit will never happen of the big screen.

Look at what they did to fucking Doctor Doom, for example.

That's a good way to think about it.

Still, you can be damn sure kick ass Doctor Doom stories, such as Triumph and Torment, will never play in a theater.

Maybe it's better that way.

That makes me wonder if they'll ever be a Doctor Strange movie...

That point is, though, maybe that means Archangel, which means Apoc is coming...

Whomever they kill, it sure won't be Wolvie.

He can do anything because... well, just because he's Wolverine and he's cool.

In this respect, the movies are turning out to be like the comics.

oh god, if they throw in dazzler as a major character they might as well make jubilee a staring love interest or something... I think I'd just give up on comic book movies at that point.

That's silly. If Fantastic Four and Hulk didn't make you give up on comic book movies, nothing should.

And then there's Elektra...

Maybe because you are easy to please...I'm usually open minded but I'm close to almost objectively saying this movie is piece.

Whether you like the comic books or not, that movie was directed like a Grade-A turd hopper. Plus the story and screenplay was laughable....what a fucking joke. I should have known such when I saw Brett Ratner take over the director role (of such fame as the god awful Rush Hour series)

indeed. what batman begins did to revitalize that movie franchise, X3 has done to suck the life out of this one.

eh, well it's not really THAT bad, but it does kind of kill the momentum.

I dropped comic reading after/during the Executioner's Song. That could be interesting. Too bad Prof X dies/almost dies/whatever in every move. Another near ddeath/dead Prof X should be off limits from here on out.

What about Apocalypse?
