the gold's gym in Greenville, NC has a lot more space than the gold's I go to in Cary, but there is no organization to the facility layout. I spent more time trying to find matching plates than I did lifting. I'm glad I'll be back in Cary and at my usual gym tomorrow.

That place gave me the creeps when I toured it.

I've lately been working on my snatch. It's pretty sad.

If I had a snatch, that snatch statement would be pretty funny.

fit 24 sucks.
i know its free.

but i was sooo happy i spent the $250 and went to peak. it is such a better atmosphere.

fit24 is filled with big black men who hog machines. and the whole track or sports teams from different schools come in there and apparently "they gotta do what they gotta do"

we have a free membership because my parents know the owners.

its probably the last gym i would go to. i dont plan on going back unless i really have to.

***Gym equipment question***

Ok, due to a should injury standard bench press is not possible. I am pretty sure that it has to do with the angle at which my arm is forced to extend. However, the isolated bench press is not a problem at all. (This is the free weight machine that allows for the two arms to rise independently of each other.)

Since the arms of the machine have mass to them as well as the weights that are added, what is the conversion to normal bench press? May I just assume that the conversion is as simple as weighing the individual arms plus the added weights.

I ask because one of the meatheads in my gym made the comment that the iso-bench changes the mechanics slightly the weight you are lifting isnt a direct comparison to standard bench.

The meatheads would be right. The machine can only be lifted in a set motion, which means you aren't using the stabilizing muscles. Free weights in general recruit more muscles for this reason. They also generally transfer to day-to-day use better, as well.

Have you been rehabbing your shoulders for strength and stability?

I have done no formal rehabbing of the shoulder. After the injury (cycling crash-audible pop, shoulder was visibly lower than normal, then popped back into place. Intense pain and unable to move it without assistance for about a week.) I resumed workouts, though with no or little resistance.

The injury was in Sept '07. The bench press is the only activity that I have found that causes any issues at this point. My workouts are based around my cycling and multisport goals and so the simple deletion of the bench hasnt been a great loss to me. Like I said, the isolated bench does not give me any issue so Im not concerned.

Now that I think about it, the fly machine is the other that Im not able to use. Again though, my workouts are dictated by my performance on the bike and in the woods. So...not too big of a deal I dont think.

so as long as you're not doing a press or a fly you can work your chest?

good luck with that

get your shoulder looked at...
