really? i thought we were later in the season. he still hasnt scored in a while.

two assists in one game is of course great. i just dont think he will get the recogniztion without continuing to score.

The really quick 3 shots the redwings did on gerber was fucking nuts. I'm so glad I went to this game. jesus christ, it was a mad house in the stands during the last 2 minutes.

And the canes were #1 in the NHL for awhile

That game was awesome. If I wasn't sick with the flu I would've been there, but at least I got to see it on TV.

Aaron Ward will also be missing 3-6 weeks to undergo surgery to repair a hernia.

my voice is hoarse from all the screaming/cheering/booing (of the refs) last night.

it was worth it, though. if nothing else today, I got to give a big smile to the office dead wings fan.

The Sens and Flyers both lost tonight, so if Carolina wins tomorrow night, they will be in sole possession of first place in the NHL for at least 15 hours or so.

Are there still tix for Ronny Francis night???

I just watched the Mark Messier Night at the Garden (Rangers are, of course, my favorite team -- Canes 2nd) and would LOVE to see one of those type things in person..

** Oh and for fuckers who will have shit to say I guarantee I saw Ron Francis play in person before you did..

If you really cared, you'd have tix by now.

I mean, I know people in Toronto who have tickets for that game.

I went down to the box office early this afternoon to try and buy tickets, and most of the upper deck was sold out, so I guess there should be a pretty good crowd there tonight.

horrible refs tonight...how many times did vokoun wind up smacking someone with his stick?

great game, nonetheless. i have a feeling gerber won't be too anxious to leave his crease for a while after that fluke goal.

BTW - it's worthwhile to mention that the Canes are once again #1 in the entire league, at least through tomorrow afternoon

Awesome awesome game tonight! Glad to see the Canes hang on and pull this one out. Lots of weird stuff went on tonight with penalties, weird puck bouncing and then a penalty shot in OT. But a win is a win and it's great to say that we are #1 in the NHL!!!

GO CANES!!!!!

Sometimes, the goalie is justified in giving someone a paddle to the face. Vokoun was getting run early and got defensive, and in the early going he was doing it defensively, which is good. Later on, he was just getting chippy. There were three not-so-defensible moments: a shove on someone, a Nurminen-style trapper swipe, and the blocker on Wallin, who was most certainly not driving the net.

As for Gerber, he'll be motoring around the net on Sunday (unless Cam gets the start against the worst team in the NHL), because he's a damn fine puckhandling goalie. Weekes and Irbe had no business going behind the net on dump-ins so often because they couldn't do enough with the puck to make leaving the net worthwhile. I'll take a fluke goal once in a season if it means that he's routinely getting the puck on dump-ins, making exit passes to the red line himself, and nullifying forecheckers for his defensemen.

The game was on NHL Cetner Ice tonight (ch 732). There is a free preview of Center Ice through Jan 16. Shoulda posted it earlier today but only thought of sending it to cowrokers and such.

Commodore should be okay, Hedican just broke his nose. Danny might come up, and he might not. We played okay with six tonight.

Haha I just noticed with last nights win the Canes have 29 wins and 62 points.

In 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 the Canes had 22 and 28 wins respectively. In 2002-2003 they finished with 61 points.

Last night was Hurricanes Game #43 I believe.. haha what a difference.

p.s. - that was the best regular season hockey game I've ever been to...

Also, the most points ever gained in a season by the Hurricanes/Whalers was 93, and they are on pace to easily smash that this season.
