[Edited on August 14, 2006 at 9:15 PM. Reason : h]

how about diaz as a leadoff hitter. It seems hes got a great approach to the plate even those he's pretty slow. But i'd rather have him batting a spot where he'd get on base as oppsoed to giles who strikes out 4 out of 5 times.

Chipper hits his 3rd HR of the game. It's the first 3-HR game of his career.

You need Turner South . . . err . . . Fox Sports. That's essentially what it is now.

LaRoche's strong 2nd half has been one of the few positives this season. If Chuck James can continue to pitch well like he has in his past few starts, then maybe that'll carry over to next season which is another positive. McCann has continued to develop so that is great as well. Renteria's return to the NL has been successful.

The rest of the season has been horrible. Hudson = flop, Franceuor still has zero plate discipline, Giles really sucked in the leadoff spot, bullpen = shit, young arms except James showed little or no development, traded our best utility player Betemit, Ramirez/Thomson/Hampton = injuries as always.

I just hope the Braves can keep from finishing last this year.

This one we knew before the season started, so that's negligible to this year. However, Hudson's down year and the lack of discipline instilled in Francouer should be cause for concern. Especially with Smoltz going into the final year of his deal and the Andruw trade rumors. I want to see some bullpen help in the offseason more than anything, though.

Baez is on the DL now. He hasn't really done anything anyway and Betemit would have been more valuable to us the past month with Chipper and Giles both missing some games. Scherholtz really pulled a Steve Phillips when he traded away Betemit.

As for the wild card, the Braves only hope is to win like 13 out of 15 or 10 in a row or something ridiculous like that because the rest of the teams are going to atleast play near .500 ball and in order to make up five games and jump 6 teams, you've got to be on a damn roll. The fact that the Braves are 7 games under .500 and still within 5 games makes me wish I wasn't an NL fan.

The Braves need significant fixes if they’re going to become a playoff team again. But when Smoltz was asked what areas he would try to improve if he was general manager, he smiled.

“Every time I answer that, homeboy upstairs criticizes me,” he said, a reference to Schuerholz."

We'll take ya up here for a few years John... You'll win a pennant for sure on our team!

^ Smoltz's option for 2007 is only $8 million. For a pitcher leading the NL in innings, second in strikeouts, first in K/BB ratio, that is a freaking huge bargin. Why Scheurholtz has not picked it up yet is beyond me. It probably has something to do with the ownership of the team still being in limbo, but if they let him walk over $8 million, the Braves are going to see even worse attendance next year.

That guy sitting behind the plate yelling "Barry, YOU'RE GOING TO JAIL!!!" while wearing a shirt that says "Indict Bonds" is really starting to get on my nerves. I'm blaming that guy for the two homers Barry has hit tonight.

Scheurholtz said the normal Braves policy is to not negotiate contracts untill the season is over. He said he expects Smoltz to be a Braves next year.

anybody as excited to see Laroche's 2nd half of the season as me? Hes been pretty consistent lately and has brought his average up to .283 while hitting 27 homers and now has 77 RBI.

He could easily hit .285 with 30 homers and 90 RBI on the season.........thats a hell of a season

No doubt that LaRoche has been playing like an all star in the 2nd half. I'm really glad to see him hitting so well for a long period because the rest of his career has been so streaky. Atleast his strong performance gives Schuerholtz and Cox one less position to worry about this off season.

Seeing that Giles will likely be traded, the Braves basically only have to worry LF, 2B (unless they try to move Andruw this offseason) and of course the main concern of pitching.

Davies will be back in a few days so it'll be interesting to see if he can be effective. If so that'll setup a rotation going into the spring looking like: Smoltz, Hudson, Hampton, Ramirez, James/Davies. Thomson will not be back. Davies was lights out in his two starts at AAA Richmond.

Fucking LaRoche was anti-clutch last night. Struck out with the bases loaded in the 7th and then hit in to a game ending double play. Smoltz looked like shit last night too.

Also why the fuck does Barry Bonds own the damn Braves. I swear he is always 2-3 or 3-4 against us - just walk his cream and clear ass and stop pretending you are going to get him out.
