If you plan on using internet coupons at the food dog expect them to be called "fraudulent" if they are over about 50 cents, even if they are 100% legit. I only use the self check out now, and keep the coupons under $10 total so it doesn't alert the cashier to come check on you. 1/21/2009 12:30:42 PM |

Make sure the coupons don't put you into the negative, or a cashier will have to come by to approve.
Also, if the coupon doesn't scan, you can just enter in the number off it.
It's fun to be in self check out, scanning a bunch of stuff, then the voice says "Your total is 14 cents" and people look at you all surprised. 1/21/2009 12:50:14 PM |

I am starting to think Target really has the cheapest groceries even if they don't double coupons
An 8ct box of Poptarts is regularly priced $1.67 at Target. At Lowes, they are regularly priced $2.29. The ones at Target have a peelie on it for $1 off....so I spent $.67 for a box of Poptarts!
Also got another bottle of Ocean Spray and a box of South Beach Diet cereal bars (on sale for $2.33 and I had a IP for $2 off)

A headsup for next time anyone plans to go couponing at kroger: go to the one at 70 and timber drive. It's 15 minutes from campus. Not only will they not give you grief at SCO for crazy couponing and IPs, a few of the clerks who work self-checkout (it's the same people...that's their station, and you don't get a rotation of employees) will actually help you with couponing. One of the ladies there is the one who told me about shortcuts.com...the ladies who work the SCO are couponers themselves, and the guys are either couponers, or just good-natured older fellows. They won't go cashier nazi on you.1/24/2009 12:30:56 PM |

Quote : | "anyone know of a good deal on bottled water, im picky and prefer dasani or aquafina but may settle for deer park or nestle" |
Is the stuff out of the tap not good enough for you? I mean, holy crap. Here in Chapel Hill it costs $0.007 per gallon. Do you even know where most bottled water comes from? Most of what you just posted comes straight from municipal water supplies, or is sucked out of springs and depletes the local aquifer.
Dasani: http://www.commondreams.org/headlines01/0902-01.htm
Quote : | " Q. Where does the water for Dasani come from?
A. To create Dasani, Coca-Cola bottlers start with the local water supply, which is then filtered for purity using a state-of-the- art process called reverse osmosis. The purified water is then enhanced with a special blend of minerals for a pure, fresh taste." |
A few years ago, Coke had to pull hundreds of thousands of bottles of Dasani off the shelves in the UK because London city tap water (the local municipal supply in the region...) had excessive levels of bromate.
Aquafina: http://www.cnn.com/2007/HEALTH/07/27/pepsico.aquafina.reut/
Quote : | "Pepsi's Aquafina and Coca-Cola Co's Dasani are both made from purified water sourced from public reservoirs" |
Nestle: All over the place.
Deer Park: this one is my favorite If you look on a bottle of Deer Park water you'll see that it is sucked out of the ground from Blue Springs in Madison County, Florida (otherwise known as "Madison Blue" to locals and cave divers). Note that most people in the area hate water bottling operations, as they help deplete the aquifer, but that's another story. Madison is a beautiful cave and spring to dive if you have the requisite training.
Usually, Madison is a spring -- meaning that water flows out of the ground. It is usually quite clear (good visibility) and tastes fine if you decide to drink some during a dive. Here's a few photos of the spring head of Madison; there are 2 entrances to the cave system down there: http://www4.ncsu.edu/~chfranci/madison1.jpg http://www4.ncsu.edu/~chfranci/madison2.jpg http://www4.ncsu.edu/~chfranci/madison3.jpg
However, during periods of heavy rain in Florida/Georgia/Alabama/Tennessee etc, the rivers can rise (10+ft sometimes) and the water pressure from the river will overpower the water flowing out of the ground, and the river water will get sucked into the cave, turning it into a syphon. This usually happens a few times per year. Here's a photo of Madison from December during a period of prolonged rain: http://www4.ncsu.edu/~chfranci/madison_flooded.jpg
I'm not showing you this to scare you, as I honestly don't know exactly where in the system Deer Park draws the water. But it's just something to think about.
Bottled water is the biggest scam ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfPAjUvvnIc -- it isn't regulated as heavily as tap water, is a zillion times as expensive, sometimes has interesting chemicals in it, and produces copious amounts of plastic waste. The only thing going for it is convenience, and use in emergency situations.

Normal, while Madison is a spring (water flowing out of the rocks):
Flooded, when it is a syphon and sucks in river water:
Oh, I'll also note that whenever I'm cave diving in Madison, I usually take a piss during the dive.

Food Lion has BOGO on Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, and Fruit Loops

My sister just called and the ones around campus(avent ferry & western) had theirs taken off. I live in RTP and I went back to mine and took them off.
She didn't go to Cary or the one on Lake Wheeler/Tryon.
Also, they have some $1 off a pop tart on the box and they are 3 for 5 this week. So you could get some 3 for 2. I peeled some of those off for my sister too since I cannot stand them.
When I was in college, the Kellogg's guy stocked the Avent Ferry Food Lion Tuesday mornings. The few times I caught him he just gave me like 15 off of his roll. They almost always stock before 10:30am. I am not sure if they still do but the person at the customer service desk told me when I asked her. Now watch 23985 people will be there tomorrow stalking their Kellogg prey 1/26/2009 11:00:49 PM |

I am using it for what it was intended.-A Kellogg product I was not intending on purchasing when I went into the store.
I did not harm the product in taking the coupon off. You would have never known the coupon was on said product to be mad that it was no longer there. Not every one of the products have coupons on them.
If they only wanted it to be used on that product, they would have had a coupon for the product only and I would not have taken it.
As a side note, I was nice enough to ASK the person by the display and he said as long as I didn't damage the boxes he didn't care. 1/26/2009 11:17:12 PM |

eh, the coupons are there to be used. whether someone takes the peelie off product #1 and buys product #2, or someone buys product #1 and uses the peelie, the end result is going to be the use of the peelie. so does it really truly matter? i'm inclined to say no, it does not matter who uses the peelie as long as the peelie gets used.
now, i wouldn't suggest taking "a whole bunch" and getting 10+ boxes of cereal for way cheap. i think that's just wrong, and i'd consider that an abuse of the system. but taking 1 or 2 peelies isn't really a bad thing, and i might do just that on my lunch break if i can find them. don't really need 10+ boxes of cereal... 1/27/2009 10:02:33 AM |

I understand that people are pissed off b/c forkgirl bought a bunch of cereal for cheap using peelies
but seriously, it's not like she took the peelie off the product and then went to another store to use it. or w/ the case of Target peelies, take the peelie off and then wait for a sale to use the peelie.
She took the peelies off AND THEN used the peelies right away on the cereal.
She took and used the peelies which is what they are meant for.

^I didn't mean to say that people were pissed off about her getting a good deal...just pissed off b/c she took a massive amount of peelies.
If a peelie says "$1 on any Kellogg cereal" and the peelie is on boxes of Kellogg's Frosted Flakes...that doesn't mean she HAS to use the peelie on Frosted Flakes.
But I agree, taking most of the peelies off is annoying
I went to Target the other night and noticed that they had reduced their prices on Poptarts to $1.67 and the whole grain ones had $1 peelies on it. I bought two boxes of Smores poptarts and used 2 peelies. The peelies are good on ANY poptarts. If I bought a whole cartful of poptarts and used every single peelie, I would feel guilty (and also would set off the "major coupon usage" flag at Target)
