I am sitting here in a state of shock. I expected Laviolette to be fired IF Karmanos was willing to part with $2 mil (and I doubted this), so this doesn't come as a huge surprise. I'm just glad it's over. But, like all of us I'm sure, I expected Tom Rowe to be named interim coach.

Since everyone is shitting themselves, I'll try to play devil's advocate for a moment.

Paul Maurice ran a boring brand of hockey because that was the only way he could win. He had some incredibly shitty teams on the ice here, and we had no business going to the Finals with that 2002 team. I for one will be very interested to see what he can do with a fairly talented team.

While everyone's final memory of Mo was the fanbase calling for his head, he was loved for many years here before. I have no idea what Rutherford was thinking, and still find it hard to believe that this is anything more than an elaborate prank, but I will be waiting for the results on the ice before I judge. Mo is a class act and IMO a pretty good coach, and I'll give him a shot.

Then again I guess I have to.

I'm all for him coming on board and succeeding, but this rinse and reuse mentality the team has developed has got to stop somewhere. Generally, when you fire someone or they go elsewhere, there was a reasoning behind it. I can't understand for the life of me this team's obsession with bringing back the past into the present. When I heard the news break that Laviolette was out, I was only moderately upset. But bringing back Paul Maurice? COME THE FUCK ON.

Peter Laviolette will always hold a special place in my heart and I will never doubt his ability to coach. He is a class act and everything you want in a coach. Over the course of an 82 game season, some tactics get stale and stop meaning as much. That is Hockey for you.

Mo is an excellent coach and a great personality. I loved Paul Maurice and hated to see him go. I really hope this doesn't mean the return of the dump and chase. We have the forwards and the offense on the blue line. No excuse to dump and chase.

I know JRB will be happy that bag skates are back.

The key to this whole thing is Francis.

With Jason Karmanos back that opens the door for Francis to go to the bench if he wants to. I think Mo will be named Head Coach and Francis will be worked into a coaching capacity. I guess we will see.

peter getting fired is fine by me. The team didn't seem to be responding to him anymore, and they were on pace to miss the playoffs again (i know they would be 8th now, but they were on the decline).

But paul freaking maurice? I think JR has a learning disability.
