to put it at its most basic, does going crazy during a freeleach just better your chances that people will need what you are seeding thus giving you better odds at uploading?

what?

it means you can grab as much as you can without fucking up your ratio.

somehow i've maintained a 1.3 ratio.e

if i had a means of ripping my vinyl (no preamp, can do usb, but dont want to upload some junk), it would be great.

i've got a ton punk 7"s and eps that are not up there

I've never had the time or resources to upload much, just a few random things I've grabbed from other sites. Uploading is great, community, blah blah, but you don't need to rely on it to boost your ratio. I stayed right on the borderline of suspension for a year or so, then went big on site-wide freeleaches around last Christmas and have been hanging around 1.25 with about an 8gb buffer. Those are pretty rare, maybe two a year; just keep an eye on the homepage for staff pick freeleaches, which pop up probably every other month. You can get a huge boost by grabbing FLAC torrents during those.

Having a great ratio is great. But with the new rules, even if you've downloaded 100+ gb, you only need a 0.6. If you seed everything you download, that shouldn't be too hard.

^is there anything wrong with grabbing some freeleach staff picks in FLAC and seeding them for as long as possible, then just deleting? i don't collect anything in FLAC nor have an interest to start but if it'll help keep my head above water i'd do it.

(sorry for all the n00b questions, but the most elite share site i've been a member of is demonoid where keeping a 1.0 ratio is easy as snapping fingers)

why would you delete your shares?

Your required ratio is affected by how much of what you've downloaded is being seeded.

So if you aren't seeding the FLACs you download, your required ratio will go up slightly.

It won't make that big of a difference though.

I'm still seeding a lot of shitty FLACs I've picked up during FLs. Unless you have a shit HDD, I don't see why you'd dump them.

^,^^

i guess i'm just used to my routine and letting iTunes manage/rename my music. It's always been download->add to itunes which duplicates/renames->delete .torrent and original share file->move on.

so i just need to change my ways

jesus christ i forgot how goddamn funny Hipster Runoff could be

Quote :
"Facebook is a tool where people talk about life, and other people read about their lives’, then other people comment, and u feel like u have friends on the internet who care about u and want to get to know about u and what u like so sometimes u can go out with them in real life and take pix them post them and tag them, then other people will see those pix and will be like, ‘o kewl they must be friends. saw them tagged 2gether in a few photos and blowing up my minifeed with wall2walls.’

Anyways, facebook is also a place where mainstreamers talk about indie buzzbands. Due to social networking buzz, tons of previously undiscovered buzzbands are getting ‘tons of coverage.’ Here is another example of some mainstreamers talking about the ‘totally indie’ band Phoenix

It seems like mainstreamer #1 found out about Phoenix from MTV.
then mainstreamer #2 was like ‘nah bro, heard about them on the OC [via California here come]‘
then mainstreamer #1 was like ‘oh i feel rlly mainstream. do u know any other good bands’
then mainstreamer #2 got in a time machine and said ‘the shins and modest mouse kill it.’
then an altstreamer comes out of nowhere and is like ‘YALL ARE FUCKING MAINSTREAMERS.’
finally, every1 simultaneously said ‘we luv indie rawk.’

Do yall talk about buzzbands on facebook?
Have u picked up sweet recommendations from facebook?
Whenever a buzzband releases a new mp3 do you ’share’ that shit to look cool?
Have you seen any mainstreamers talking about buzzbands on facebook?
Do u get pissed when mainstreamers find out about indie buzzbands?
Is Phoenix the ultimate modern mainstream indie band?

^is that supposed to be funny b/c the referenced posters had never heard of popular indie bands, The Shins and Modest Mouse? or is that funny b/c commenting on such people is stupid?

either way, I hope I'm not the only person who would be very suspicious of the quality of your sense of humor.

not really the genre that gets much talk in this thread, but if you enjoy the Gaslight Anthem check out the AM Taxi album. It's a pretty damned good listen.

The new Lucero is pretty legit. Kinda late on it, but I haven't seen it mentioned. It is not Tennessee, but it is better than Nobody's Darlings for sure.
