uhh....
perhaps you've forgotten that Rafa wanted to sell Xabi after he had a stand-out season with a club that he loved, without any cause, and then when no one wanted to pay what he was asking he acted like the player should be happy his own manager tried to sell him out.
because that's totally like this situation here.
totally.
almost exactly the same, in fact.10/19/2010 11:13:50 AM |
aimorris All American 15213 Posts user info edit post |
Tthere's no actual proof Rafa wanted to sell Alonso, it was more of Alonso's feelings being hurt that Rafa would actually want to add another good midfielder (the two weren't even playing the same position at the time). If Rafa wanted to sell Alonso that summer, I guarantee they could have found somebody (I'm pretty sure Juventus and Arsenal were interested). It was another example of the media trying to put two things together just because they "made sense" not because they were actually true - Rafa wanted Barry, nobody on Liverpool could get them the transfer money needed to match the higher valuation aside from Alonso (obviously excluding Torres/Gerrard) so it made the most sense for the deal to happen
It's all about a player feeling valued and Rooney obviously doesn't. Sir and United are stupid for leaving it so late in Rooney's contract discussions because all he wants is to get paid.
they're obviously different circumstances but the underlying issue is coach vs. player - this "can't be more than the club" horseshit is always so popular with United fans but the fact is your best player wants the fuck out and the club is receiving no blame for it. I'm sure he just woke up one day in August and said, "Fuck this club, I'm going somewhere else" for no reason, right?

I could be totally wrong here, but I thought I read a couple days ago he is in the last year of his current deal.
Ok n/m it was summer of '12 he finishes it up. It should be interesting to see where United tries to steer him vs where he actually wants a transfer to.

That is probably the most naive statement ever. Rooney doesn't feel valued? They offered him a 66% pay raise. It's been on the table for almost a year now. He's got 20 months left on a 5 year deal, and the deal's been on the table under negotiation for at least 12. You do the math again and then tell me if you come up with "they're stupid for leaving it late" again.
He wants money, yes, and if he ends up at City, it will be because they are willing to pay over the odds for him. He may, at best, have 6 good seasons left in him, and in the end, Wayne Rooney is not going to be spokesman for anything once his playing days are over. He most likely wont be on the cover of FIFA next year. He's been dropped by sponsors left and right due to the hooker allegations. He's trying to get one big deal with stupid money so that he can retire and act like a fucking idiot like Paul Gascoigne. No more, no less. He's got an advisor that planted a bug in his ear before the world cup, and that bug has grown and grown.10/19/2010 12:02:25 PM |

Maybe that advisor is looking out for his client. This is almost like the Peppers situation where all the "fans" were pissed at him for turning down the chance to be the highest paid player in the league, but it turns out he and his advisor were smart as fuck to get out before it all collapsed.

Quote : | "Manchester United are preparing to gamble by waiting until after the World Cup finals before opening negotiations with Wayne Rooney over a new contract.
Rooney has a little more than two years remaining on a contract worth £90,000 a week and United are committed to offering him a new deal, both to reward him for his excellent form this season and to guard against losing him on a free transfer in 2012.
But the United hierarchy see no cause for urgency with the talks, despite the possibility that a successful World Cup could mean the England forward’s market value soaring." |

The club are clearly convinced that there is no prospect of Rooney becoming pessimistic about United's prospects of regaining domestic and European ascendancy if other clubs outspend United this summer" |

well look at the difference in the table. united havent had problems scoring goals...surprising and uncharacteristically enough they have just been giving away leads for no reason.
liverpool, with the exception of 1 or 2 games have just looked flat all game long and dont have anyone who really wants to score except gerrard on set piece situations..
(unless you were being sarcastic just now )

torres has been horrible for probably a year. liverpool sucks because their only strikers are torres (injured/sucky) n'gog (league 2 quality striker) and jovanovic (?). Gerrard scores all the goals for them. If they could ship off torres for 50 mil and get 2 good strikers, that'd probably be a good trade off, because they have absolutely no depth after torres.
Man Utd has owen, berbatov, macheda, all of whom are at least better than n'gog. Berbatov is playing a lot better than Torres right now, and they still get goals from Nani.
I don't like how SAF throws players under the bus so quickly though. Everytime a player leaves he makes them seem like the villain.

Not sure why you're comparing Liverpool and United... that wasn't the point
Rooney was a top 5 player in the world less than a year ago and now it's a good idea for him to leave?? (when the odds are likely you won't get shit in return)
I don't care about Torres form right now - when he's on, there's no one better. And I'm not sure where you will find world class strikers you can get for 15 mil, let me know 10/19/2010 4:02:03 PM |
