Supposedly debate rules aren't made public, so I don't know how true that is.

Maybe we should audit the DoD to find out where that $737 billion/year is being spent before we give them $2 trillion more.
That should be the focus, not goddamn fucking Big Bird. 10/5/2012 3:58:17 PM |

Quote : | "I never said it's a complete picture of current events. But it sure is an accessible picture. Lots of people can't afford expensive cable TV or the internet. Should they have NO news?" |
If you can't afford the internet, you're doing it wrong, and you certainly shouldn't be wasting time watching PBS. Cable news is bullshit and mostly propaganda.
Quote : | "You act as if the media is some benevolent outlet that has people's best interest at heart. It's nothing more than a bunch of corporations that are trying to sell advertising- that's not whistleblowing for the sake of being altruistic..." |
Maybe that's true. How does government involvement change any of that? The government is also not benevolent, and it is not made up of people that are truly altruistic.
Quote : | "I'm the product of a public education. K-12, college, then junior college, then college again, then graduate school. I work in public education by teaching at a university and a community college to change things and make a difference. Is it perfect? No. But it's better than nothing. What are YOU doing to make a difference and make the world a better place? " |
You're the exact type of "worker bee" that the system is designed to pump out. You're completely obedient and loyal. Do you realize that? Everything you know and believe has been passed down by a system that is corrupt to the core. I'm not surprised that you're unwilling to bite the hand that feeds. It's a rational position to take.
Quote : | "I completely disagree with pretty much every single word of this. " |
I'm sure you do. It's like I've challenged your religion and your brain is shooting sparks. What!? Art and creativity could exist without government funding!? This...no! It's blasphemy!
Regarding media, the future is internet news. It's that simple. Radio and TV are ineffective means of exposing the fraud and violence that has grown up around the system we live in.
I really believe that if Americans were shown true news in gruesome detail - children being exploded into bits by Obama's drone attacks, families being destroyed by drug laws, the factory conditions for iPhone workers - many of them would change their tune. These are the kinds of images that were necessary for me to understand the evil that has taken over the U.S. government and other governments. It's very important that Americans not see those things. Because of the media situation in this country, Americans have tunnel vision. They care more about which candidate's wife bakes the best cookies or some bullshit sound bite than the death and destruction going on every day.
That is the real shame - not that federal funding is potentially going to get pulled for some media outlet that has a negligible impact on public awareness. People need to wake the fuck up and start focusing on things that really matter.

In 2012 broadband should be everywhere but instead of investing in internet we are investing in roads in Iraq, schools in Afganistan, weapons for rebels in Egypt, oh and PBS.

actually, i was a college dropout and complete fuck up, up until around age 23 or 24. the LAST thing i'd planned to do in life was to give back to any institution of higher learning, for any reason. If I hadn't have dropped out during my last semester at NCSU, they would have gladly booted me out.
then, a few years later, this crazy thing happened: I went back to school, and I met profs and people who actually gave a fuck about education, learning, and the same shit I did. Eventually, I wanted to become like them- a person who wanted to be a better person.
by every possible metric, i should have never graduated from college, let alone got into grad school. 'worker bee' my ass... 10/5/2012 7:04:06 PM |

They should not only BOTH have notes with them, but the shit that spews from their mouths should also be accompanied by a video screen showing original sources that they are quoting from/implying from/referencing.
In our modern world of nearly instant search, correlation and fact checking, why the FUCK would we enforce ancient Greek rules of debate and rhetoric?
Also, Romney is still toeing the line of the Paul Ryan "supply side economics" policy bullshit. 10/6/2012 1:06:22 AM |

Did anyone else notice that Obama spoke for over 4 minutes longer than Romney and that during his speaking times would not answer the questions asked by the moderator and would bring up off-topic points at the end of his statements in hopes that Romney wouldn't be able to counter? Did anyone else notice the moderator only cut Romney short and never tried to interrupt Obama during his remarks even though he was obviously going over the stated time limit? Had Romney not been assertive and fought for his time to address Obama's off-topic jabs, he would have likely spoke for 10minutes less than the president and appeared to not have "won" the debate. Because he did those things, he "won" the debate.
Again, this was a debate, rules in debates are simply guidelines for reference for each debater to understand the system and create a debate strategy. Obama's strategy was to talk slowly, use his time wisely and throw some curve balls at Romney. Romney responded and did what he had to do to stay relevant in the debate and not let Obama walk right over him.10/6/2012 10:57:41 AM |
