Now, the question is, what is the official $ amount for the impermissible benefits that PJ got? And looks like Eric Prisbell and some PP folks have some more damning info that could further increase that number.

North Carolina reserve guard Leslie McDonald is expected to be cleared to play by the university, possibly in time to appear in Wednesday's game against Texas

Hairston might decide to leave school and declare himself eligible for the NBA draft, the source said.

The spin is that PJ will go to the NBA .

My assumption is that the NCAA hasn't digged much past this late spring/summer so probably wont have anything there.

A couple items as they are coming across the wire.

Quote :
"InsideCarolina @InsideCarolina 3m
McDonald's improper benefits comprised use of luxury cars, payment of parking tickets, a cell phone and lodging

Derek Rowles @DerekRowles 1m
Interesting.. no mention of the mouth guard issue in McDonald case #UNC

Joe Ovies @joeovies 5m
Key line in Forde’s tweet?

“No request made by UNC for Hairston reinstatement.”

Marinate on that.
"

-Ok so CJ Leslie had to pay $410 for a ride and crashing someplace but McDonald only has to pay back ~1,700?

- If UNC isn't even going for reinstatement why have they let him hang around so long?

Quote :
"When a school discovers an NCAA rules violation has occurred, it must declare the student-athlete ineligible and may request the student-athlete’s eligibility be reinstated. The NCAA staff reviews each student-athlete reinstatement request individually based on its own merits and set of specific facts. At this time, McDonald’s reinstatement request is the only one the NCAA has received from North Carolina."

http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/public/ncaa/resources/latest+news/2013/december/north+carolinas+mcdonald+cleared+to+play

So according to that quote, UNC has not even sent a reinstatement request for PJ? But hasn't Roy and UNC been saying that they were waiting on the NCAA? And Vitale and Bilas were going on about "the mean old NCAA punishing kids" during the Kentucky game?

So Faulcon had to pay his 1,400 immediately before playing but McD has till the end of the season and can play whenever? JUSTICE

I still think they are a 15-25 with just MacDonald being added...unless he improves more than he has in the past three years. He'll give them some depth and another shooter. I'm still under the impression that their big wins and bad losses are all outliers and they're realistically somewhere in between.

Pretty sure they said he could work out a payment plan.

I wonder how student athletes are expected to pay back $1,400/$1,700 in a few months. Do their families have that type of money lying around?

The NCAA is fucking joke. At least McDonald is being cleared and not PJ. McDonald does not really help UNC as he's a role player. Maybe his addition actually causes some chemistry issues as some of the guys like Tokoto have been playing better by getting some of his minutes.

It'll be interesting to see his impact. Tokoto does everything well except for shoot. That's pretty much all MacDonald does well. UNC needs shooting...but so far Paige has been money in that aspect and the other guys have done well in everything else.

wondering if they PP guys let him play before they drop more info or if they will do it today.

From WRAL:

Quote :
"BREAKING NEWS: The University of North Carolina announced on Friday that it will not seek reinstatement from the NCAA for guard P.J. Hairston. He has been suspended throughout the regular season for "mistakes that placed his eligibility at risk," the school said in a news release."

I guess PJ ain't gonna be back for Kentucky, or anybody else.

is it "just a mistake" when you repeatedly, knowingly, did something you weren't supposed to do both in the eyes of the law and of the NCAA? laughable how they try to spin it. i'm a little shocked "adversity" wasn't injected in there somewhere.

Someone was finally held accountable for their actions over there... sort of at least.. Well I'll be... good thing they weren't selling a few sneakers then their program may be in some serious trouble.

Because him staying with the team creates an us vs the world mentality which could help their performance. Also helps makes practices better

It's on the same level as their fake division rings in football last year. I know they can weasel out of any real trouble with the NCAA if they need to -- I'd almost expect a WRAL article next week from Caulton Tudor praising Roy for looking out for his poor player in the face of so much adversity.

Any bets on how long it takes PJ to get arrested with weed and a gun at a local property from Roy's Rentals™?

Guess he got tired of working at a paper that didn't get on its hands and knees to fellate anybody in a light blue uniform, so he found somewhere that was more receptive to protecting the "flagship" university.
