Have the otterbox for the 5. The 4S am giving to my mother has an awesome Lifeproof case. When will they come out for the 5? How good are these otterboxes? PS anyone got any cool apps I should choose?

Wish they had unleashed the iPad version of Google Maps simultaneously, but it's coming apparently. Can't wait for the supposed workarounds to get it to work with third party apps and reroute around Apple Maps as the default.

I have the LifeProof iPhone 5 case but just for using when I'm on a boat or near the water, it would be an absolute nightmare to use as a day to day case. I don't know how the case for the 4S was but the screen protector doesn't sit flush with the screen meaning that you have to press down through a 1/8" gap to hit the keyboard. This means you have to type very deliberately and slowly to make sure you hit each key, it's a terrible design flaw. Also, the sound quality is terrible.

If you think I'm exaggerating take a look at LifeProof's facebook page or reviews of the case online. I'm actually be more lenient on it than most.

Saw this trick on Twitter: You can get Siri to use google maps to give directions if you tell her "via transit" after your address and then select Google Maps from the list.

i.e Give me directions to John Smith's home via Transit or Take me to the nearest Wendy's via Transit.

once you go 5 bye bye unlimited. Also on the lifeproof cases they are awesome but you are right maybe just have it to go on the boat, beach, etc and then put the otterbox on the rest of the times. I have an otterbox on my 5 and it is so much easier to type than the lifeproof but I will tell ya, it saves you a lot of hassle with not breaking phones with either.

Just sold my 32gb iPhone 4 on ebay for $300. It was a buy it now and it only lasted 20min. Its amazing that I can use a phone for 2+ years then sell it and get all my money back.

holy frick i froze my iphone 5 yesterday...

the giant metal heatsink on the back can magically drop the available voltage and current in the battery my phone went from 76% in the car, to 20,5, shutdown in 5 min... warmed up in my hands... back to 23%... then tricking back to nothing in under 5 min again...


soo if you take your iphone 5 someplace cold keep it inside your jacket.

(we went to the shooting range and i set it on the loading table and then couldn't hardly get it warm again)

so my friend accidently washed her cell phone, yep, she fully washed her iphone 4 in the washing machine the night before she left for hawaii

She put it in rice for a few days and then took it out. It turns on and she can text out. but it gets hot and will automatically turn off after 3 or 4 minutes. And there is water under the screen.

What do you recommend? Putting it in rice for more time? Im going to look today for silica packets, anyone know where to get them?

I have my old backberry she is going to try and use to let her iphone dry out more.

Outside of cracking it open and letting the components dry out and replacing the screen the phone is toast. She might be able to get 50 to 100 on eBay. I wouldn't trust having a phone that gets that hot, especially since it is a girl and she keeps it in her purse, when she is not washing it of course.

I just got the Speck Gemshell case for my iPhone 5. It is clear and pretty slim. Goes all the way around and has cutouts for headphone jack, speakers, and connector. Has a slightly raised lip so you can sit the phone down on its front without the screen touching the surface.

also, my gf's parents got me a nice JBL docking/speaker station for Christmas. Except that I now have a 5 and can't use it. I'm sure I could get a lightning pin adapter, but i'm not sure if the phone will "sit" right in the dock with that attached.

If you can trade it in you could get one of those airplay-able wireless speakers, so you don't even have to plug your phone in.

I have seen that before, even when it's already ON.

Just toggle it OFF > ON.

It's a bug with one of the iOS updates, you should power-cycle the phone too.

Got a new iPhone today. Plugged it in. Said I needed to update iTunes. Did that. Then said there was a new version of iOS (6.2 maybe?) downloaded that. Then it said it was preparing my iPhone for new software, and while it was doing that, I got an error message saying the new software update couldn't be installed for an unknown reason.

Now this is what my phone looks like:



It's like it's not on or off, just in limbo. Pressing the off and home buttons at the same time doesn't do jack shit

Anyone have the moon next the the clock 24/7? It happened after the new year. I've restarted my phone. Same thing. Just curious if it'll go away.

Yeah. It's a bug where do not disturb wont auto turn off. It fixes itself on 1/7 per apple but you can go to settings and manually turn off do not disturb.

hmm, that's an option. I really want a dock to use for charging and as an alarm clock station though. i don't really use my phone as a source of music when i'm at home.

So I just downloaded the Amazon Instant Video app for iPhone. Which is pretty sweet, but looks like it only works over wifi Why can't I watch with iPhone 5 LTE. Like WatchESPN. Maybe they will change it since it has been out less than a month.

Does Netflix let you stream over LTE?

Got my first "major" nick in my black iphone 5 this weekend, and as I suspected based on the pics I've seen of the nicks on the edges online, it doesn't bother me at all.

Maybe it will hurt my resale value but I don't think it makes it look bad, maybe a little more worn.

Anyone on here do iPhone repair?

Here's an update on the situation:

As stated a few post up, my friend washed her iPhone in the washing machine (yes, the entire cycle). I was pretty sure it was done for. She dried it for a few days in rice, and then about a week in silica gel. The water has completely disappeared, screen looks great, and it will power on, but after about 30 seconds it power cycles. I replaced the battery, she said that its somewhat better, but will still power cycles. Do you think anything can be done to it? She has to have a smartphone for work, but doesnt have money to pay out for a new one.

Whenever I try to sync my iphone 5 (ios 6.0.2) to itunes 11.0.1 on a MBP running snow leopard, when it gets to the step where it transfers purchases, itunes will freeze, giving me the pinwheel of death, and eventually i'll get a message on the phone that says 84 items could not be synced, see itunes for more information.

if i unplug the cable, itunes un-freezes, but i can't find any information about why the sync failed.

additionally, a ton of the songs on my iphone are now greyed out, and are a mix of legit purchased songs and mp3s from various sources, including many i ripped from CDs.

google hasn't been much help, in terms of nailing down the exact problem. several threads out there on apple discussion forums, but no resolution.

anyone run into this?

work just upgraded my 4S 64GB to a 5 32GB - didn't need the extra storage - they told me i can't sync it to itunes for 3 hours otherwise the unlock don't take affect for some weird reason

it's the A1429 GSM though so when I move back to the US next week i won't be able to use LTE

Just to answer my own question, after looking around I downloaded the atomic browser for $.99

It has a setting to make websites recognize the browser as whatever you like, Firefox, explorer, safari for iPhone, safari desktop, etc..
