our magic number is 5 and we have 6 games left. we're totally fucked now that houston is on a hot streak. I would hope they cant continue winning games, but I think we're more than capable of losing a few more in a row. We've already had multiple 10 game losing streaks this year.

Yeah, you will. Collapses like this just don't happen. It reminds me a bit of Chicago/Cleveland last year. I bet tomorrow you win.. Chris Young is due for a letdown for the Pads and the 'Stros have their weakest starter, Hirsch going tomorrow.

If you win tommorow and the 'Stros lose it's all but over still.. that's why the season is 162 games long. Look at the Mets right now. They are playing just as badly as you guys are.. at the end of 162 the team that is better, longer will win out. The Cardinals were better, longer then the Astros and they'll be in...

Jeez why all the hate? The Cards are far from horrible. The last 2 years, they had 100 win seasons. Sure, this was a "down" year, but over the last several years they have lost Darryl Kile to death, and Woody Williams and Matt Morris, without really replacing them with anyone notable (unless you call the superflop Mark Mulder a replacement). I think it's admirable that they still managed to win the NL Central and lead the entire way despite 2 8-game losing streaks, a 7-game losing streak, a season ending injury to their closer, a no-name relief corps, and long term injuries to Albert Pujols, David Eckstein, and Jim Edmonds.

So yeah, under the circumstances, 83-78, a division title, and 1 win away from the NLCS is not bad, so maybe you should stop hating. Go Cards.

Eckstein and Edmonds have just made all the difference in the world.

Jeff Weaver quietly ended the year pitching well especially on the road, this is not a surprise to me.
