So I'm thinking this eyeshadow with a red dress? Yay or nay, girls?

Red red (not burgundy, pink-red, or orange-red)... The Lancome lady I talked with recommended that shade ... It's not so matte on your skin - you can see more of the copper/gold/etc tones when it's on skin

I'm not a fan of red eyeshadow, but that's just me. With a red dress I would go with golden brown/neutral eye. If the red looks good on you though, go for it.

Red-red looks good with red-red lips and smokey eyes...in my opinion.

Thanks! The eyeshadow has a mostly copper/golden tint to it... I don't think I could do red eyeshadow!

My lips are naturally kinda dark, so I was just going to do clear gloss... maybe charcoal-ish/smoky eyeliner with the eyeshadow

adding some depth/dimension with a darker tone would definitely make that color work well (although half the time the things they suggest at those makeup counters are totally wrong-- anyone else experience that?)

With a red dress, either go with smokey eyes, simple eyes (lined with a dark liner), or something like a sheer gold shadow with a little bit of liner.

anything with too much red in it will compete w/your dress.

Cool, thanks... I usually do okay with putting together the right colors - I'm just a little nervous since I'm wearing a red dress. I didn't want to do gray eyeshadow or anything too neutral... I usually wear pinks and browns, so I was trying to do something a little different this time.

Re: the bad experiences with makeup counter ladies - I've had good and bad experiences... I don't usually go to them to determine how to apply makeup and what to wear, etc. However, since I'm trying something different, I wanted another opinion. The lady I talked with about this shadow seemed to know her stuff though... And her own makeup looked really good, and she wasn't pushing a bunch of products I didn't want.

Laundry detergent help, anyone??? I recently (and stupidly) bought new, fancy laundry detergent and then my skin got VERY mad. I am now itchy out of my mind and although I washed all my clothes with the old detergent, I think it's going to take an exorcism to rid the itchy factor out. Anyone with sensitive skin know of a good detergent that'll help? And/or lotion that will get rid of this damn itch? I've tried Aveeno anti-itch but it doesn't seem to help.

I've read through a good half of the 25 pages here... and still have yet to see anyone say what type of BCP they use. I have never heard of the stuff they prescribed to me recently... just want to see if anyone else uses it. Thx.

^ Thanks StillFuchsia

They prescribed Portia (I'm not sure if that's a generic name or not). Tried seasonale about a year ago. That didn't turn out well at all-- but maybe this stuff will be better. Just started using it yesterday and it seems OK so far. Just not sure I trust the ladies in the women's center at NCSU.

here's a good thread message_topic.aspx?topic=359583

and the one i made message_topic.aspx?topic=248776 turned into a good number of pages but it appears to be trashed...

OH, and I use Yazz...the commercial for it gets on my nerves, but I've been really pleased with it. I've had many issues with birth control...this is the first one that i've been satisfied with on all fronts.

I got put on Yaz back in May and I don't really like it, I'm planning to have it changed. It's made my periods longer and heavier on top of completely killing my sex drive.

If Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo hadn't made me such a raging bitch I would have stuck with that. Weight loss + gains in cup size = my kind of pill.

Yeah. i just read that entire thread you suggested elkaybie and didn't see anything about Portia. Guess I'll have to go do some more searching on the internet.

^ I was going to also suggest Dreft. My little sister has VERY sensitive skin and this is the only detergent my mom has found that doesn't irritate her.

The nuva ring is the best thing ever, and costs the same as the pill at student health. I've been on it for a year and a half and the worst side effect is a little bloating right before my period. It didn't make me gain tons of weight, and it *may* have cleared up my skin, though that could just be that I'm over puberty. Why did they tell you that one out of all the ones out there?

I have no idea. That's why I'm trying to find out more info about it. I went in originally because I was having some issues and some crazy pain. They did a few checks, and an ultrasound-- and when I went back to get the test results the doctor said (in lehmans terms) "i don't know how to read this-- and the doc that does know isn't here... so start taking these and i'll call you back" i started taking them as i was prescribed, but she still hasn't called and it's been over a week. [after typing that, the situation seems more sketch than before] Any thoughts? I mean, is it worth it to try to find another GYN outside of NCSU?

thats odd. I would be harassing them like mad, but I am a little over obsessive about keeping the girl parts in tip top condition. Was it pain other than cramps? That would scare me so much. Id call them back, and if they dont say anything and it is still happening, go somewhere else.

First BC: Mirena. WAY awesome.

^I don't think it's at all unreasonable to follow up.
^^If the NCSU gyn can't read the ultrasound ( ), then it's definitely time to go elsewhere. And doubly so, since they can't be bothered to call you back.

i am looking to get one of those Circle of Life necklaces (or whatever the hell they're called) for my best friend for xmas.

where can i go and get a decent one for under $60?? i want sterling silver, and real diamonds aren't necessary...i can deal with CZ as long as it isn't an obvious cheap-o.

here's a pic:

i'm on portia -- it's generic for nordette, if that helps you in your internet search for info

i was on ortho tri cylcen for like 8 yrs, but then basically switched because the pharmacy at my grad school's student health quit carrying it (lame reason, i know -- i was on nordette for a year, now have been on portia for 6 or 7 months)

anyway, i haven't had any problems with it -- but i didn't have any problems with ortho tri cyclen either

I think it's ~$40 (including tip) for wash, cut and style, it's been a few months since I last went.

I'll report back later if it's anything different

No openings at the Design Gallery until wednesday

^^I'm actually going to try one of those John Frieda Brilliant Brunette shampoos. The target on 64 has trial packs. It's not really a big change in the color department (because after years of dying my hair crazy colors I've finally decided that I like my natural shade) but I'm going to see how I look going from chestnut to espresso

dammit about the design gallery.

and i've wanted to try the brilliant brunette before too. i agree w/ya, misha. i'd like to see what the espresso one does to my hair. i just recently dyed it red, but i think if i do red again, i'm gonna stick with a much darker red (chocolate cherry feria ftw). dark, chocolate/espresso-y brown is gorgeous.

^^Coloring my hair black was the most damaging thing I've ever done to it. I mean, I think you should go for it if you're really curious about it and like to try different things; it is just hair after all. I'm just saying that my experience with black dye wasn't a good one -- and if you don't like the color there's little you can do to fix it. If you'd really like to do it, I'd suggest going to a colorist for a professional opinion and/or dye job. Just my 2 cents, not that you asked for it!
