Wilson was drafted out of high school by the Orioles....the fact that he is listed behind Evans, Beck, and Burke makes me think he plays 3 years baseball and is gone. That would only give him 2 years to play football and Glennon is going to be the starter for sure in 2009. I just don't see TOB starting Wilson. I do like the idea of a faster guy playing QB behind what we call a line.

^^ what players?

i havent heard it... they say he runs well, but who cares...we need a passer so teams dont stack the box. theres a difference in mike vick and peyton manning.

until TOB comes out and says it, i wont believe it a bit.

Lucas Makes Official Visit To NC State
By Phil Kornblut

LB Sterling Lucas (6-2 220) of Orangeburg-Wilkinson made his official visit to NC State over the weekend. "It went real good," he said. "I got to sit down with the coaches. It's a real good coaching staff. I think they are going to take the team to the next level. I feel I can fit into their system. They lost four linebackers and I think I can play early." Lucas did not commit and will visit North Carolina this weekend and Michigan State January 25th. USC remains in the picture and he talked with recruiter Shane Beamer last Friday. "He's going to be in this week with the new defensive coordinator," Lucas said. A Wake Forest recruiter will be in Monday. North Carolina coach Butch Davis is due in Wednesday along with Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio. NC State coach Tom O'Brien is scheduled for an in home Thursday. Lucas said he's also interested in Maryland.

In that article it also mentions we are entertaining two players this weekend.

Quote :
"Cleveland running back William Lowe and St. Augustine, Fla., cornerback Rashaad Reid are scheduled to be on campus in Raleigh for official visits. Lowe is an all-purpose back who is also looking at Indiana and Iowa. Reid is a late addition to the Wolfpack recruiting board, mainly because he’s been committed to Georgia Tech. But he’s now looking around in lieu of the coaching change there and has visits set for N.C. State, South Florida (Jan. 25) and Arkansas (Feb. 1). He’s already visited Vanderbilt."

^^ That's funny. Before I even read the article and its blurb about rumors that Jones will end up at ECU, I was thinking, I bet he ends up at ECU now. I hope he does and I hope he owns UNC every time he plays them because that would be some funny shit.

rumor was that Sam Jones was going to visit ECU this weekend but it doesnt look like that will happen now. This is one we might sweat over if he qualifies or not. W/o him our O-line class gets considerably weaker.

^ Well, if we're worried about his academics, it would make sense that he was planning on visiting ECU. What makes you think he won't qualify?

Wow, TOB has done an excellent job of recruiting to our needs (especially at QB, LB and OL) and bringing in quality guys that could help very early. This is far exceeding any expectations I had for him in his first class.

Which players do you think will have the most immediate impact? I think Juco DT LeRoy Burgess may see playing time fairly quickly. Maybe not next year, b/c he might redshirt to gain experience, but he's got the size. He's 6'1" 300 lbs. He's got huge arms. Of course Brandon Barnes will probably see at least some time returning kicks in the next year or so. I also think Kyle Linney and Sam Jones could get on the field after a year or so. They have good size right now. It all just depends on their conditioning and how quickly they can pick up what the coaches want them to do.

Dwayne Maddox will probably get some PT....especially since he's already enrolled and will be goin through Spring practice. Any of the guys that are already on campus have a head above the rest obviously. Linney, Dom Ellis(already has the body), etc. Of the ones coming in over the summer......of course glennon has a shot. I think Mattes, Jones and Wallace will redshirt. They all need a little more meat on em. Jones being listed at 300 is being generous. Closer to 280 prolly. Wallace and Mattes are both around 270, so they need some bulking, strength. Woulda said Colby Jackson at FB and Manning at LB......but with both goin out with ACL injuries, next year is redshirt for them as well.

well if you use Rivals ratings then we have 6 4 star players, b/c they have Linney as a 4* player.

this kid was in the DE rotation at South Carolina as a Freshman before injuring his back. Losing Martrel and littleton, we need an instant impact DE to come in. He'll be in the rotation with Willie, Kuhn, audi, etc.

without getting too academic, i just want to say: we are on our way to being a football school.

basketball is great and all, but as red as our blood is, and the way our fans are, our rightful place is to be the premier football school in the state. the blue schools down the street can have their five guys run up and down the court, but as far as i'm concerned, we need to be dominnant in football.

^^ I thought it was b/c he got into a bar fight and was arrested, unless this is another Shea McKeen.

Quote :
"South Carolina defensive end arrested, suspended from team

The Associated Press - May 24, 2006

South Carolina defensive end Shea McKeen was arrested early Friday after a bar fight here, police said.

McKeen, 20, was at the Pour House in Five Points with a friend and refused to leave after the owner asked them to, according to an incident report. He was charged with disorderly conduct, trespassing and failing to follow police command.

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said McKeen was suspended indefinitely.

"In all likelihood he probably won't play for us anymore," Spurrier said. "We'll wait for the investigation to come out."

Bar co-owner Sam Abraham said the brawl lasted a couple of minutes.

"The whole event was uncalled for," said Abraham. "That's not the image we're trying to create or condone."

McKeen, of Mays Landing, New Jersey, played against Central Florida last season but suffered a lower back injury and didn't play again. He was listed as a backup to junior Jordin Lindsey in the team's spring media guide.

"It is embarrassing and I apologize because this is a guy we recruited," Spurrier said. "When you recruit one and they are troublemakers, or appear to be, it makes you feel bad, so we have to do a better job of recruiting the right kind of kids. We're going to mess up occasionally, like we did with this one guy.""

I bet he's learned his lesson and will know he can't mess up this second chance. Everyone makes mistakes in their life. I'm ready to give him the benefit of the doubt. He should be a good one for us.

^ what's wrong with wanting to be good at both. if traditional football schools like Florida, Texas, Wisconsin, Ohio State, etc. can get national attention for both football and basketball, then we can do it too. we are the largest university in the state and have a ton of resources.

So he is projected as a DE but out of high school he was a top 10 TE prospect. Any chance we try him at TE or is he being recruited exclusively as a DE?

Butch isn't doing so bad either. We have a small class at this point but our commits are high caliber players. I expect another 10 or so players to commit by signing day bringing us into the Top 25. I will admit that TOB has done a great job in-state this season. I really wanted to get Mattes cause we need to solidify our O-line.

Quote :
"I don't think we'll be seeing as many of the top players leaving the state anymore."

I agree. Butch signed 4 of the top 5 in state recruits last season, although Dwight Jones didn't qualify academically ( ), and now TOB has commitments from 3 of the top 5 this season. Butch still has a shot at landing the only remaining top 5 in state player LB Abrams-Ward too as he's down to just UNC and Tennessee.

Quote :

You guys already have 20 verbals and there are only a handful of uncommitted 4* guys with any interest in signing with the Pack. I think it'll be mostly 2 and 3* guys from here on out.

Sure, but I'll take O'Brien's ability to coach up his players over Davis's ability to grab a few extra four star players any day.

Butch is getting killed in recruiting. You can't aim for only top 100 players when you've had 5 straight losing seasons.
