Whatever happened to making a good game, then releasing an expansion because people would buy it. I'm tired of this "lets release a game thats almost a classic, then make them pay for 5 more expansions so that they keep playing it, and so that we make more money" strategy

companies are working on DLC before the game is even released

how does that make you feel

^Well they do have at least some time to work on DLC before the game comes out. There is a gap between when the game goes to disc-printing and when it is released.

But yeah, any company that purposefully holds back features just to release them as DLC is garbage.

At the same time, if they would have to postpone release to finish those things, I'd rather them finish the game on time and release extras as DLC.

awesome that games won't be limited to full sequels now.

Forgetting how fucking long this game was? You think they would just include another 80 hours for the hell of it? I don't think I could have handled it being longer than it was.

Pay the 25 bucks or not, I'm pumped about DLC.

You don't have to buy the DLC, so I don't see the problem with it.

The game was probably completely done before they started work on the DLC, it was probably in beta testing at that point.

This has been said before, but:

I wonder how raising the level cap will work with perks. I have a hard time believing they will let you pick another level 20 perk, they're too good.

Maybe limit you to the 2-19 level perks?
Maybe give you a new list of perks to pick from for 21+ ?

I'm excited about the DLC, but I'm definitely not getting it until I play through the disc content at least 2 more times. I might as well get the most out of what I've already bought.

i wouldnt say it is an 80 hour game. you can casually play through it in 20-30 and rush through it far faster.

that said, there are things to do for plenty of other hours, so you cant be all that pissed at them for releasing DLC so soon.

I find it bizarre that hundreds of years have passed since the bombs fell, and humanity still hasn't recovered. We'd recover in no more than 50 years if that happened.

I finished my first game in 50 hours, and hadn't even done all the quests or explored everywhere.

I think the reasoning is that except for the Ghouls, Washington DC (as focus of more attacks) has been uninhabitable for much longer than the rest of the US.

I mean, Megaton and Rivet City are the only major settlements in the area, and both of them are apparently around 30 years old.

In Fallout 2, which is 30 years before 3, in California, there's already significantly more progress. It's still pretty primitive compared to modern civilizations, but there are quite a few good sized towns, 3 fairly powerful "City States" (New Reno, Vault City, and San Fran), and a developing Republic in the NCR which incorporates a fairly large part of Southern California (only the very northern part, where the capital is, is in the game however).

I just started playing this yesterday. I diffused the bomb in megaton and got a house somewhere in the city. I dont know where it is yet. So far I haven't even left the city because i've been having too much fun starting wars with the locals. I can tell it's going to take a very long time to complete this game for me.

Your house is on the upper level, to the left as you come into the city.

cool, should I sleep in the game...? I've noticed you can sit in chairs and such and lay down on beds. Is this to recover any attribute or just to pass the time from daylight to night?

^It's a solid +10% for rested, I think.

^^Also, your crippled limbs heal and you regain full health from sleeping in a bed, even if you only sleep for an hour.

Anyone else had vertibirds randomly drop off a squad or so of the enclave troops while in the city?

Yeah, they do that a lot after you first meet them. It's one of many random possible spawning encounters in the city when you come near a map location. Others are talon mercs (or regulators if you're evil), super mutant squads, molerats (mostly at low level), and various "special" events/NPCs, a few of which are friendly.

According to the internet, it's also possible to shoot down a vertibird if you manage to hit it with enough heavy ordinance.

i like games where you work your ass off to become powerful and have some sort of alignment, then you end up finishing the game without warning and can't go back and tie up loose ends and finish explore. That's excellent game design

and for what its worth: i assumed you gotta shoot em in the head is a reference to zombies in general?

but sure, the mc chris rant was funny, so why not?

the general idea of "shooting the zombie in the head so it's dead for good" will always apply

my question is, did the developer specifically have the mc chris rant in mind when he set about making the title and dialog of this quest

I think he did.

I think he was chuckling "WHAT ARE YOU PRESSING SELECT FOR?" while he was making this mission

yeah i saved all the time. usually to go back and see what different outcomes were but i was hooked on the main story and had no idea was about to end. Up until you kill the last guy which is like the last 2 seconds of the game there isn't really any indication that this would be the game ending quest. All i'm saying is maybe Dr chong could've said "Once we do this you can never go back" or something like that so that i could've been like, okay well hold that thought while i go do 80 other things. Once i beat it by accident i felt kind of cheated by the game and didn't want to finish anything up because it all kind of felt irrelevant.

but yeah, i am trying to have my cake and eat it to.
