I think it dropped off a special mob in Hell, if I remember correctly. On Normal difficulty.

just curious, those with over 20k hp, are you stacking vit exclusively? my monk is 50, trying to keep a good balance between dex and vit, but only has about 10k hp.

I'm actually 100% socketing dexterity right now except for my helm, which has a square vitality gem for the 11% HP boost.

I switched out 3 sockets to dexterity from vitality. I went down to 22-23k from 25 but gained a good amount of damage.

Its all about finding the gear that gives you your main stat and vitality. i had to hit the AH for rings as i was using really bad ones.

yeah I had to get something, since it was just not fun only being able to take 1 hit before dying.

My ring upgrades really shot my HP up though. One or two items can make a big difference.

I just wanted to reiterate something that ssclark stated on the previous page.
In terms of dmg, your "main stat" doesn't give you the biggest DPS increase normally. Starting as a WD, I thought it would be INT all the way; however, the comparison is more like (in descending order):
Damage (Weapon and other assorted +Dmg)
%IAS
%Crit Chance
%Crit Damage
INT

I was hoping that INT would get much better once my weapon damage was higher, but it hasn't even become close yet. Lulz, +15 damage ring is astonishingly better than +80 INT ring.

Still trying to troubleshoot my wife's performance woes. She has a C2D 2.6 Ghz, a GTS250 and 3GB Ram on Windows XP. There's no resolution she's running at that doesn't occaisonally just drag FPS wise independent of resolution and setting. It's weird. It looks great and smooth until a tombstone shatters or something.

I can't believe her system can't play this game smoothly. Have a list of shit I'm going to try tonight (beta drivers, different graphics setting, modifying d3prefs.txt a bit)

for windows users:
go into your documents>diablo3>d3prefs
this should open up a text file, find the line that says
DisableTrilinearFiltering "0"
change the 0 in that line to 1. this will disable trilinearfiltering.

for mac users:
Click on the background of your desktop to make sure you in the "Finder Menu"
Hold Down the Option Key and hit GO, then click Library (should show up under home)
Open the Application Support Folder
Open the Blizzard Folder
Open The Diablo III Folder
You will see a file called D3Prefs.txt open that with your text editor
You will see a line that says DisableTrilinearFiltering "0" change this to DisableTrilinearFiltering "1"
save file!

Tell me about it. I'm 55 and i JUST replaced a level 13 ring because it had +damage and + attackspeed on it; but no actual stats.

I guess if you can find a vitality item that has +15 damage it would be better. But you would also be losing bonuses to resistances, elemental resistances, physical resists, etc by going pure damage modifiers.

The thing is at like ACTIII Nightmare and below damage is king. But get too much farther, you need more survivability.

is it only when there's heavy particle activity? like spells and physics? or does the FPS spike at random times, like just running around town?

I think the game is poorly optimized....I'm throwing an insane amount of hardware at it and it does this stuttery thing in certain areas of the game.

Namely the spider cavern, but if you alt+tab out and come back in the stuttering stops for like 30 seconds.

^ My FPS drops in th Spider cavern (well we may not be talking about the same place, I am talking about where you fight the boss spider that is half lady) too, but not like unplayable. Its fine with me, I normally get 59-60 FPS otherwise with a stock GTX560.

Oh, you definitely want a certain amount of survivability to go with damage. My comments were just that in terms of upping your Damage, INT is 5th most important. For almost any other game, that's near trivial. I'm sure the weighting is better at higher Dmg levels, but I'm almost done with Hell and haven't seen it yet.

Also, I need to look up how armor helps all mitigation. I heard that it reduces _all_ damage including elemental. I guess that's like how I can dodge spells now? Is the Damage Redux and dodge rating the same for physical as it is spells?

I have a GTS250 also and I run max settings with 1920x1080 and rarely have fps issues except in large open areas with 20-30+ mobs and aoe everywhere.

On my DH I tried using a hand xbow and a shield and it didn't seem to help very much. The shield was a 50% increase in armor and I still got owned VERY fast.

I feel like I'm doing something wrong with how fast I die. I dropped down to 9k damage to up my hp to 42k but when the shit hits the fan, I don't seem to live any longer.

Maybe I'm just underestimating Inferno...

my dh is only in nightmare but when i see certain elite types i run like crazy and just spam snares and lightning ball until shits dead. shadow power (or w/e the dmg to hp spell is) saves my ass when i get caught w/ pots on cooldown. however, sometimes you just get owned by the lag and theres nothing you can do about that.

i dont think DH is particularly survivable in close quarters but that just may be b/c of how i play.

anybody see this about the hacking issues going on? apparently someone can knock you offline, log into your character, and sell everything on your character without even having to log into your account. so authenticators and passwords dont even matter.

%IAS is % increased attack speed.



When you open the character screen it's right underneath your armor number.

I've got 2 nm chars -- monk & wd -- both pretty easy

At lvl 36 I feel the monk needs a bit more ways to generate spirit, you basically only have 1 attack, the rest either suck or are defensive/passive. The character is a beast though, very easy to play with the 1 attack, lots of armor, dodge, ways to heal, heal others all in 1 build -- will be very good in pvp

At 42 my WD is starting to feel underpowered in late a2 nm, survivability is A+ though. Spirit walk and soul harvest on same cooldowns -- best skills in the tree -- every 15 seconds I can vanish for 3 seconds, regenerate 40% mana and heal to full if 3 or more mobs are present (and often are) -- the summoned mobs start to suck as I get higher in lvl -- my gargantuan and I have been through so much but now he's getting rocked and ihave to use the CD version to get any real use from that tree. The cooldowns are too long but there is hope at the level 60 skill up. I do a TON of dps though, haven't figured out a good single mob build other than the same strat I use for everything else -- acid bomb acid bomb acid bomb w/ dire bats for mobs stacked deep-- wish I had the DH snare to better control my herding

Gf has a barb, hoping she levels it to 60 gets bored and bam! I've got a free level 60 baba

Soul Lashers in nightmare are, without exaggeration, impossible to kill with normal progression.

Those as barbarians, do you use two one handed weapons, a two handed, or one with a shield? It seems to me you get the most bang for your buck with two one handed weapons but I wouldn't doubt if a two handed would be preferred.

^^I'm currently a 51 barbarian. I've used both 1 handed and 2 handed, only combo I havent done is sword and shield. I personally prefer 2 handed right now only because its cheaper to buy a good two hander then 2 1 handers. From what I have heard inferno is basically impossible for anything other then 1 hand/shield.

Yeah, and she can do huge fights without lag and then crawl just when we're walking into a new area. I think it's a shitty hard drive. It's the one part I took from her old computer to put in my rig when I upgraded.

tl;dr: Yes

Long Answer: It's completely dependent on what gear you have access to, what skills you want to use, and the difficulty level you're playing at. If you're using Frenzy + Smite you'll want a fast 1h or two, because you'll want to proc the stun as much/quickly as possible. If you're Rending, Overpowering, Revenging, WWing, etc, a high damage (not necessarily dps) 2h is awesome, because of the high raw damage #s of the weapon and small range. Plus you have to consider the extra gem slots you're potentially getting out of a second weapon or shield.

I used two 1-handers through Normal, a 2h hammer in Nightmare, and a 1h + shield now. *shrug*

Ok so it seems to be a common problem for the GTS 250 cards to overheat and the video driver crash after doing somemore research (was interested since I have one too)

The "fixes" mentions are the DisableTrilinearFiltering "1" and also go into your vid settings and set "Max Foreground FPS" lower to like 60 or something.

Also, you might want to try underclocking the card just a tad, get something like EVGA Precision and move the sliders down a few hundred and see if it still happens.

There is alot of talk that they might just put the GTS 250 card on the unsupported card list, which is bullshit cause it runs everything else fine.

This turned out to be BS. It's just people getting their accounts via traditional means. Weak passwords, keyloggers, giving their accounts to friends, etc... The ones who are saying they had authenticaters attached are lying.
