If a country consistently ignores established borders and encourages continued illegal settlement and constructs an apartheid state, and repeatedly engages in disproportinate military responses, they should expect a lot of resolutions

And yet considering the atrocities commited by the governments of Iran, North Korea, Sudan, China, and Russia...

Where are all of their condemnations?

Israel definitely deserves it's fair share of finger wagging (because that's all these resolutions really do), but the lack of balanced outrage at these other countries for their crimes delegitimizes the entire process.

Interesting clip, however, it is stupid, insulting, and ignorant to deny that the way Zionism is practiced is most definitely racist.

Anybody denying that either has their head in the sand, is hooked to Miley/Britney, or is an insidious liar.

Quote :
"

The popularity of the Hamas militant group among Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip has spiked significantly following the 50-day war with Israel, according to an opinion poll released Tuesday.

The poll, conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research and headed by leading Palestinian pollster Khalil Shikaki, indicates that 61 percent of Palestinians would choose the Islamic militant group's leader, Ismail Haniyeh, for president if Palestinian presidential elections were held today.

Only 32 percent would vote for current President Mahmoud Abbas, Hamas' rival, the survey suggested."

^^^The points I wanted to emphasize were the unbalanced number of resolutions and how the voting trend started. If you look at the the voting that was posted on the previous page, you'll see that the voting is still the same.

^^I am appalled at why they would think this was a good idea. I've always hated Lieberman and this has his stench all over it.

^This statistic helps explain the others:
Quote :
"The poll said 79 percent of respondents believe Hamas won the war"

To suggest there was any form of "winning" is ridiculous. These people are being misled by their leaders.

This goes farther back in the history of the conflict.

I don't fully get the last 30 seconds (seems to insinuate something about Obama that I don't really get) but the rest is factual history.

Definitely blatant propaganda. They are intentionally leaving out a lot of things for obvious reasons.

I'm a little surprised bdmazur would even post it...

The entire subtext of the video is that the Israelis have a right to slaughter palestinians and take the land, which is ironically what the sentiment the video is bashing the palestinians for holding.

"We underestimated Palestinian fighters: Israeli official

TEL AVIV: A senior army intelligence official has admitted that Israel underestimated the tenacity of Gaza fighters and did not expect a 50-day conflict to last so long, but he insisted they were soundly beaten.

The conflict, which ended with a cease-fire last week, killed more than 2,100 Palestinians, as well as 66 soldiers and six civilians on the Israeli side, in the bloodiest battle between the Jewish state and Gaza militants for years.

“If you’d asked me two months ago, I wouldn’t assess that it’s going to take us 50 days,” the official told journalists in English at a briefing in Tel Aviv late Tuesday.

“We thought it’s going to take them a shorter time to understand what happened, and we are mistaken here. It’s a tactical assessment mistake, but it’s a mistake,” said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity. He said the training of some Hamas militants had impressed him, but that there were no “surprises” for Israeli forces.

“They were in pretty good shape and pretty well trained,” he said of amphibious commando-style raids by Hamas militants on Israeli shores.

“You can see for sure they were trained outside of the Gaza Strip,” the official said, but added “we haven’t seen anything that has surprised us” militarily.

“We think they are in very bad shape,” he said, pointing out that two-thirds of the militants’ rocket stores had been wiped out and several hundred of them killed.

The UN says some 70 percent of Palestinian fatalities were civilians."

Interesting... but wait, what attacks by Hamas commandos on Israeli shores is he referring to?

I posted the video because it mentions historical points that everyone here seems to always forget: the Palestinian state has been offered several times over, and they keep saying no. This goes all the way back to 1920, 28 years before Israel would even be a recognized state.

Israel is Gaza's largest donor of aid as it is, and if a peaceful transition process can be guaranteed, Israel will pay for way more than half the bill. And the US doesn't bankroll Israel, they are an economical trade partner. Israel produces so many things that not just our government, but our entire society, use on a daily basis. Israel doesn't get free money.

That's you letting your bias dictate how you received the message. The narration certainly isn't propaganda-free, but nowhere did I hear or see "it's ok to murder Palestinians.". And there was nothing about "Israel should take the land," it was about Israel trying to give the land and being turned down. It blames the Palestinian plight on their own leaders.

Before you start accusing me of propaganda again (and what in this thread from anyone hasn't had it's own bias?), this history is not given from a Jewish/Israel standpoint. Instead, it focuses on the fallout of European imperialism.

Let's just ignore the fact that you bitch everytime I post a video and let it slide when anyone else does and focus on the fact that these kinds of media influence the way people perceive the conflict which can in fact change the conflict itself if society is swayed enough towards a certain action. It should be a part of this discussion. Just because you don't like what a lot of them are saying doesn't make them less worthy of being posted.

The last one isn't propaganda, it doesn't have a political agenda. It's pretty much a college entry-level history report. But I'd bet the farm you didn't watch it before whining, so how would you know?

I post these things in the hopes of creating dialogue. I appreciate the two that OEP linked, and I'm letting them settle in before responding. I was recently at a Holocaust educational event that had absolutely nothing to do or say about Israel, but a group from JVP showed up and started screaming Hitler analogies at a group of survivors and 12-year old students. Now whenever I see anything from JVP I get angry but I'm trying to view this without that kind of influence.

It is easy, Israel needs to follow international resolutions and law.

That would require uprooting all the settlements from the West Bank, and letting the Palestinians declare an independent country with Gaza and the West Bank, free of any walls or settlements running through those 2 territories. Jerusalem should be a joint Israeli-Palestinian city.

Just fucking roll back to one frame before the current one:

But that's not going to happen, and the fucking land thieves just stole some more land a few days ago, the largest land grab for decades, and are going to soon build some more illegal settlements on it.

There are just as many or more Palestinians than Israelis... why the fuck is it so hard to roll back one frame in the pic above? Even doing that, the Israelis will still have vast majority of the land. Why the fuck do they have to have the settlements in the West Bank. Just fucking look at the pic... it looks like a hemorrhaged organ. How the fuck is it going to be possible for Palestine to be an independent country EVER in the future, if the West Bank looks like it passed through a food strainer? How would it be possible to have proper borders? Is it that hard for the Israelis to understand that? They say they want a 2-state solution. Really? If so, MOVE THE FUCK OUT of the West Bank. Instead of moving out, they keep on fortifying the settlements and the walls, and as I just mentioned, have stolen more land, and will build more homes. That can only mean they are FUCKING LYING when they say they want a 2-state solution.

I don't think it's anywhere near that easy, because nobody has any reason to suspect that Hamas & Co. would quickly become peaceful if granted 1967 borders. And if they don't get peace out of it, what the hell do they get?

Gotta have a carrot and a stick here, for both sides. And they're gonna need to be big sticks, because the current set of "We'll invade Gaza every few years" vs "We'll occasionally kill a handful of you" doesn't seem to be affecting anybody's behavior.

The window for a two state solution has already closed. A one state solution with full citizenship and a secular government (maybe with Gaza being some sort of Middle-Eastern Hong Kong would be a more pragmatic solution.

But that will never happen, either. Neither side is interested in secularism, which is the big wedge in this conflict. Fatah used to be more secular, which made them a threat to Israeli dominance. That's why the unity government was the root cause of this last flare up.

Gaza - Israel Conflict: Numbers Behind The Destruction In Gaza

What a shame that we live in a country where our tax dollars go to fund Israel and their bullshit. We send them millions in aid and they just give us the middle finger and tell us we aren't in a position to interfere. Their lobby is so powerful here that anybody who speaks out against them can have their reputation tarnished by being branded an "anti-semite".

I mean, their actions are just so blatantly wrong but basically nobody is allowed to call them out on it.

When Israel is annihilating innocent civilians and leveling buildings, they are the victims. When they make aggressive land grabs that are in clear violation of international law, they are still the victims.

What a damn, damn shame.

I don't really understand the tone of this post. Its hard to read tone through the internet and is not clear what you were doing here.

I knew about the attack and my post was in response to the Netenyahu press conference after the attack where he announced the homes of the terrorists (who are dead anyway right?) will be demolished.

I know this is a common practice for Israel but it really seems childish to me. Why would you destroy the house in response to the attack as if the house had something to do with causing the attack. What is the wisdom of demolishing houses in response to terror attacks. I don't think this sort of thing would ever happen in the US and we are by no means terrorism apologists.

I could understand being angry about someone joking about the attack. Why are you offended by me joking about the promise to destroy an inanimate object.

If anything, you should be upset with the Prime minister vowing to destroy housing hours after an attack where people died because 1, he's the prime minister (not some guy on a message board) and 2, he was actually being serious.

Looks like change is on the way. A new election, and a new chance for the Israeli people to show the world how they really feel about peace.

Quote :
"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered letters of dismissal for Finance Minister Yair Lapid and Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, two members of his Cabinet from rival parties, according to a statement from his office.

"During the last few weeks and, in particular, the last few days, the ministers have intensely attacked the government that I am leading," Netanyahu said. "... I will not tolerate ministers attacking the government's policy and its head from inside the government.""

Lapid and Livni were the biggest threats to Netenyahu before the last election, and now that he's booted them, they will take their parties out of the coalition. Netenyahu would lose his majority and a new election would need to be held. Just the chance of an election was enough good news to brighten up my day, but then there was this icing on the cake:

Quote :
"The heads of the Knesset factions will convene Wednesday at the office of Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein to decide on a date for the next general election.

Later in the day, on Wednesday afternoon, the Knesset will vote on a preliminary reading of a bill to dissolve the Knesset, which is expected to pass easily. A final reading of the bill could pass as early as next Monday."

Also:
Quote :
"Former president Shimon Peres has lashed out at the policies of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying they have moved Israel further away from peace and security. "

Peres still has a lot of pull with the people, and his words go a long way. I'm looking forward to having Netenyahu out of office as soon as possible for the sake of both nations.
