I want to call Jerry Manuel an idiot for putting a shift on a guy in his debut, but it's working 9/1/2010 8:08:26 PM |

Something to keep an eye on...
Omar Infante is currently hitting .346, while the league leader, Carlos Gonzalez, is hitting .329. By my count, Infante is 38 PA short of qualifying for the batting title. The min. PA is a receding goal, but if he plays full-time for the rest of the way he should catch it just before the end of the season. But it will be close...
A batting title might almost justify him being an all-star... 9/2/2010 8:01:43 AM |

^ Might justify?
Also that has already been discussed regarding Infante and the batting title and him getting enough PAs. What would really make it interesting is if Votto is in position to win the triple crown only to be upstaged by Infante getting enough PAs.
The fucking Mets had shifts on for McCann (no surprise), Heyward (did not work), and Freeman (somehow worked twice). I guess Jerry Manuel assumes every left handed batter can't hit the ball to left field. Freeman had two balls that may have been hits, but were right into the Mets shift. I was impressed with his debut and he made a couple of nice digs at 1B. Future is bright with him, Prado, and Heyward along with Medlen, Minor, JJ, Hanson, and Venters. 9/2/2010 8:36:32 AM |

^shifting for heyward is not only stupid, but down right idiotic. I've seen more of his hits go to left-center than right field. 9/2/2010 11:47:10 AM |

^^ Don't forget that Infante doesn't need to reach the required 502 PAs to win the batting title. If he falls short a few PAs and takes and 0fer for the remaining ones and is still the highest in Batting Average he wins it. That will be interesting if Votto, Gonzalez, or Pujols win the Triple Crown only to have Infante snake it away with like 495 Plate Appearances. 9/2/2010 11:58:39 PM |

Thanks for shitting the bed last night Rockies. Pieces of shit play out of their mind against the Braves and then their bullpen implodes against the Phillies.
Tough stretch of games for the Braves due to the pitching matchups. Santana last night, KK going for the Braves tonight (pretty much a guaranteed loss), and then on Saturday they have to face Josh Johnson again. Phillies might be tied for 1st by Saturday.

wat? I'm not following the reasoning here. It may be that I'm not fully up on the rules, but I thought he had to reach 3.1 PA per team game played, regardless of whether or not he appears in them. Which, for 162 games, would be 502 PA.... like I said, unless there is a caveat to that I'm not familiar with....9/3/2010 2:29:31 PM |

Saw some chatter on AJC about whether or not Omar could get to 502 PAs necessary to qualify for the batting title. It seems highly unlikely unless he gets 4.5 PAs per game the rest of the way which means no days off.
But there is some rule I never heard of that says if he comes up say 30 PAs shy of 502, they can give him an 0-30 and if his BA is still the best even with the 0-30 factored in, then he can be crowned the batting champ. That is a crazy rule, but I hope Omar is able to win it as his season has been amazing.
Hudson going tonight in Colorado. Please to lose Phillies, you pieces of shit.

Tony Gwynn won the title that way in '96
Only had 498 PA's, hit .353...add 4 outs and he's still ahead of Ellis Burks .344

If he's 20 PA short, they can add on 20 PA (essentially, saying he went 0-20). If, after that, he still has the highest average, he's the champ.
See Tony Gwynn in the mid-90s and some other dude before that

Unfortunately I am still spot on with this post. Fucking KK. Why have they just not released him yet? There has to be some other starter in the minors or let a guy like Dunn start. There is no reason to allow KK to pitch in a MLB game ever again. Trade his ass to the Royals.
Fuck the Phillies. They continue to play way over their heads with a ridiculous winning % in 1 run games.9/3/2010 10:16:23 PM |
Ernie All American 45943 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah, throw Dunn in there for a couple, Martinez for a couple, and let the rest of the bullpen finish it off. KK needs to fall on his sword.
No days off for 2+ weeks, things could get dicey.
--
I know before he was sent down there was talk that the front office was afraid to move him because it could hurt their chances to sign Japanese players in the future. I don't know if that will impact him the rest of the season, but really, has there been a Japanese player not named Ichiro or Nomo that wasn't disappointing?

Yeah I just cannot figure out why Bobby and Wren are continuing to give KK a shot. The moves that the Braves front office has made this season have mostly been spot on (Farnsworth/Ankiel being the exception).
Glaus - good signing overall even though he fell apart, he has certainly been worth the money Saito/Wagner - both have been very good Gonzalez trade - working out okay despite some defensive issues Lee trade - too soon to really judge Melky - take out his horrible April and he has been serviceable (~750 OPS in May-July) Keeping Heyward, Venters, and Conrad out of Spring Training - excellent moves Giving Prado the starting 2B job and trading Kelly Johnson - great move Bench they built out of spring training is 2nd to none with Ross, Hinske, Conrad, Infante, Diaz
Wish we could undo the move for McClouth too, but at least we did not give up anything for him. God he sucks beyond belief. In the offseason they need to trade him, KK, and Farnsworth to the Royals for a can of baked beans.

God the Braves suck serious balls against the NL East. Other than the Mets, we cannot beat anyone. Also what is it with teams making unreal defensive plays against the Braves. I only watched about 10 plays in the entire game and saw the Marlins make three great plays in the field (Gaby Sanchez slide into the wall, Maybin grand slam robbery, and then some pitcher robbing a line drive right up the middle).
I am now paying more attention to the Giants and Rockies than the Phillies. I am convinced the Braves cannot hold off Philly, but should be able to win the Wild Card. Cannot believe I am saying this, but the Braves need Lowe back soon. Minor and KK both were terrible this weekend. 9/5/2010 11:48:40 PM |

Pretty frustrating the difference between how we play on the road and at home. The Pirates are the worst team in the NL and we score 1 run in 2 games. Hopefully we can win tonight and get some help from the Mets. 9/8/2010 7:16:25 AM |

Ever since that fucking ridiculous play by Maybin on MclOUTh's would-have-been grand slam, the Braves have scored 1 fucking run and lost three games. The Braves are truly horrible on the road and even if they make the playoffs, this problem will prevent them from probably even winning a series.
Honestly if you cannot beat the Pirates when it counts the most, then you do not deserve to make the postseason. Just plain embarrassing. Lowe needs to step it up tonight. Braves still have 6 games left with Philly, but need to stay within a game if they hope to actually win the east.
Also Ankiel, Lee, and McLouth need to stay on the bench. Put Hinske in right, Melky in center, Freeman at 1B and pray for groundballs. 9/8/2010 7:56:13 AM |
