He caused a lot of tension within the staff and alienated non DL position players. He was a great role model for those guys but not the other 75 players. A coach is a coach, no matter what position, Blake truly was "rouge" in everything he did at UNC.

but at the end of the day, do I think he was a cheater? No."

you missed the golden part. goin "rouge". Now Black Santa is a shade of red!!!

Ovies linked to this article on IC by Deems May. Not surprisingly, he comes off as extremely whinny.

Quote :
"The decisions that these people have made do not align with the majority of true Carolina people. The decisions were spineless and showed incredible weakness"

Whaa? Holding the coach accountable was spineless and weak?

The entire article is the same thing that we've been hearing the past week. Except he goes on about de-emphasizing football and how sad that makes him. He never mentions any anger about their leadership de-emphasizing his diploma though.

There are a few other good quotes in there, but his whining gives me a headache.

^ all those scary pine trees, how UNC has ever lost a game at Kenan Aluminum Stadium is beyond me.

There's a new thread on a protest in front of Thorp's office, lots of lulz contained within
Quote :
"Any interest by people on this board to meet on the South Building steps on Thursday at 11:00 am to protest thorp's decision? If you disagree with this idea, please keep your opinions to yourself. I have no desire to argue or attempt to change anyone's opinion, but am just looking to rally those who have deep feelings regarding this matter. We all look at this situation personally."

hopefully this will be their rallying cry heard all the way to Rawlee

" We have been the biggest bunch of crying ******* ever since Butch got fired. Hell, even before he got fired. We can't help what happened. But grow a pair, gain some pride, and support your ******* football team. We still have a season to play. And a season after that. And a season after that. Our team needs our support. Our coaches need our support. The other teams that aren't football need our support. So Holden Thorpe ****** up... move on. We can't do **** about it. You seriously think not going to the games is going to help anything? You seriously think Holden Thorpe is going to step down or get fired because we don't show up to the games? Get real.

Every home game. Every away game, we NEED to show up and support our Tar Heels. We have a very good team right now, full of future NFL players. Would you want to play in front of an empty stadium because your schools Chancellor and BOT's ****** up and fired your coach? No. Of course you would be mad, but you would need all the support you could get. Coples doesn't want to play in front of an empty stadium. Renner doesn't want to. Houston, Jones, Powell, Paige-Moss, Brown... none of them want to play in front of an empty stadium, or a sobbing fan base. SUPPORT YOUR TAR HEELS!

You don't like Thorpe? Fine. Tell him. E-mail him. Toilet paper his house. I don't give a ****. I don't like him either. But support your Tar Heels ******!

You don't want to support them because you don't like some ***** in a tie that sits at a desk all day? Fine. Go over to Raleigh. But I'm driving to Chapel Hill as often as I can, and cheering on my Tar Heels until my lungs collapse.

GO HEELS!

And even after a few days for this to settle in, threads like this are still popping up...

Quote :
" FIRE CHANCELLOR COWARD AND REHIRE BUTCH!! "

Don't they realize that a chancellor (of any school) has way more to worry about than just football? They're really putting their football team ahead of the university.

Not sure if it was in this thread or the investigation thread, but someone said that Thorp would be UNC fan's scapegoat for everything that goes wrong (our version of their Lee Fowler...it's already started. In response to a thread on the stolen records:

In fairness, they probably intentionally misspelled peon as pee-on. Otherwise, why would they hyphenate it? Peon = little guy = perpetually overlooked and "pissed on".

Just a thought...

From the letter Deems May wrote to/for IC:
Quote :
" The sighs of relief upon hearing of our coach's firing reverberated from Blacksburg to Coral Gables to Tallahassee, to Clemson. We are the laughing stock of universities across the nation right now due to the decisions that these leaders of our beloved institution exercised. It is unconscionable to me that our very own would conspire to gut Tar Heel football. We have to be the only university in the country with an anti-football faction, that in itself may well be the most saddening element of this entire debacle."

Seriously? I'm sure VT and FSU were shaking in their boots thinking UNC was on the verge of usurping perennial ACC dominance from them.

If I was a graudate of Carolina, I'd be absolutely pleased with the decision to fire Davis. For many who are looking at the situation from the outside it would seem that UNC values academic integrity over football wins. If Davis weren't fired than the perception would be that my alma mater is a dirty school that accepts the scandal as something that comes with the territory of a successful football program, and would devalue the diploma received.

Lets not kid ourselves, UNC has some really great academic programs that add much more to the university than a football program ever could, and these don't need their name dragged through the mud any more by keeping around a perceived shady character.

i have a feeling that the majority of these people losing their minds over Davis' firing are of the Wal-Mart variety

as far as students and alumni go, it's just the "lunatic fringe", with which we are so familiar, coming out of the woodwork. no one with a brain should argue that Davis should have stayed coach.

This scandal has made a clear cut line between graduates and wal-mart nation.

Graduates are pissed at the academic mess.

Wal-mart nation is pissed that "their beloved heels have been destroyed by higher ups that don't care about sports"

I absolutely agree. Add on top of all this that BD was an average coach (15-17 in the ACC...1 bowl win, 0 top 25 finishes). It's not like they were a top 10 program or anything. It should be a no-brainer for UNC fans grads to be in support of the decision to fire BD (other than the timing).

I think that the members of IC should establish a scholarship in Butch's honor. It could be a post grad scholarship for a football player. It would need to be kept under the control of a private group with no University input. I would contribute $250.00.

In Butch's honor? Those two words should never be in the same sentence

about once every 6 months, an actual graduate of UNC posts on IC, i figure he's a graduate because this is simply too logical or its a "wuffie troll" who can't keep up the charade:

Quote :
"whether troll or heel fan, have you thought about what happens if HT is gone? think, take a long as your brain requires. the same folks that enabled/caused/ordered (take your pick) the firing would then take months to pick a new chancelor who more met their vision, the vision you paranoids fear most. That is the only way it would break down. If you and your ilk are correct in your fearing vision of de-emphasis on the horizon, then a replacement chancelor would be more inclined towards that vision. HT may be the best bet for less trouble. I could be wrong. But just think about that, as slowly as your brain requires"

even I'll say IC really has some dumb assed people; however packpride may be just as dumb, if you read any of the hardcore football posters talk about anything academic related then you'll understand, this one guy just posted something along to the lines that the sports programs at unc were the reason that the professor's have good salaries and why unc has the facilities to be a major academic university and I assume he's part of the same crowd calling for professors that pressured to get rid of butch to be fired themselves

I mean this place is hardly a bastion of objectivity but you rarely get that level of stupid, maybe because this place is actually made up of former students; I can't imagine some of the tar pit folks were actually undergrads anywhere
