Definitely think the debate was a net positive for Harris. No she won’t flip any Trump base people, nothing ever will, but she provided a stark contrast to his frothy incoherent tirades, and to those that are somehow truly undecided, I think she probably looked good

That debate was...something.

Trump seemed to think he was at a rally, while Harris sometimes couldn't really tell if she was debating him or having him on the stand as defendant. The moderators sucked and let Trump talk all over the muted mics. I saw he got more than 5 extra minutes of talking time, but it felt like way more.

Overall, Kamala did well, but Trump pretty much did himself in with his unhinged online BS/conspiracy talking points. She clearly won, but I don't think it's really going to do much, besides maybe motivate lazy voters who would have otherwise just stayed home. I really don't see how anyone can really be undecided, unless they're just embarrassed, either for being totally misinformed/uneducated about US politics, or because they know how awful Trump is but still love him anyway.

I'm surprised people aren't making a bigger deal out of the "she puts out" line towards the end when he had his meltdown about her racial identity, or maybe I'm just reading too much into things. People are rightly focusing on the pets and "concept of a plan" stuff, but there was a lot of unhinged racism/xenophobia/sexism that came out of his mouth and nobody has time to break it all down as a play-by-play.

It's cool to see betting markets swing back to Harris again, but I still think it's going to be a really rough ride well past Election Day.

I don't believe in "undecided voters." Truly do not think they exist in substantial numbers. There are a lot of people who say they are undecided, the vast majority of whom:

1) Know who they are going to vote for but are ashamed to admit it
2) Know who they are going to vote for but want to seem like open-minded free thinkers
3) Know who they are going to vote for but want the attention afforded to "undecided voters"
4) Know who they prefer but aren't going to vote
5) Don't know who they prefer and aren't going to vote

At this point it's all about jazzing up your own base and demoralizing the opponent's. On those counts I think Harris was successful, insofar as a debate performance can be a success rather than just "not a failure."

I mostly agree, but semantically, some people seem to have trouble differentiating between independent/unmotivated/undecided. I see it all the time and it's kind of irritating.

People often claim they're independent when they are simply registered as an independent in their state but vote straight ticket or single issue on Election Day-- they either don't want the baggage of being tied to a political party, or they think it makes them sound intelligent. I guess it depends on whether your state has open or closed primaries and the strategy in mind, but it mostly sounds like a lame excuse to justify sitting on the fence and not actually taking a meaningful stance on anything.

Plenty of unmotivated voters like to claim they're undecided when they are really just too embarrassed to admit they like an unfavorable candidate, OR they're just too damn lazy to bother to fill out a voter registration card or stand in line.

I'm too lazy to draw a triple Venn diagram, but the very center would obviously include complete and utter morons.

I think most actual independent voters (meaning they truly base their decision on a case-by-case basis) already made up their mind, just like the vast majority of everyone else, and they're probably going break for Harris this time around. Unmotivated voters likely didn't even watch the debate, because they just DGAF about politics, but they'll definitely see the memes/headlines, and a tiny sliver of them might actually bother to vote for a change. The rest that's still 'undecided'? They are probably stupid enough to vote for someone like RFK and could easily walk into oncoming traffic on Election Day so it's anyone's guess.

Kamala continues her slow rise in the polls after a lull. Trump trying to make a big deal out of the security breach but I think it’s going to be a dud for him.

I feel like most people have to be pissed about the trump attacks on Haitians, plus trumps terrible debate performance. The chaos of trump and Vance causing bomb threats are a big turn off

However we’re seeing how easy just completely asinine off the wall rhetoric by trump CAN cause chaos. It seems like they’re using this as a trial on how to disrupt the actual election process. What happens when his voters call in bomb threats to polling places?
