If you're gonna do the zebra and want it to be bold...pick ONE thing to go all zebra with...not multiple zebra accessories

otherwise you'll look like you went shopping at Justice for your room

^ and one of those little leather backpack purses.

Quote :
"those wands scare me - I'd be so afraid of burning myself... not that I curl my hair enough to warrant one, but it's skurrrrrry!

how do you like it? any mishaps?"

I love it. It's ceramic and gets hot fast so it curls the hair quickly without burning or drying it out. My curls also last a long time too.

No mishaps. I bought the Remington version after comparing that to the ConAir version. The Remington version comes with a heat glove to wear on the opposite hand to prevent burns but I dont even use it. I haven't gotten burned yet and use the iron fairly frequently. The more I use it, the better I get at it. It's great for when I let my hair air dry and then need to fix a couple of pieces. It makes the curls look natural with the rest of my hair.

The one thing I will say is that a lot of the reviews suggest you have at least shoulder length hair or it might be too difficult to use the wand without burning yourself.

i got the remington wand from target

OH MY GOSH A+++ would recommend. wayyyy easier than a straightener or curling iron (IMO) and i haven't even really put effort into it yet. i just got home and half assed tried it out on a few strands. it really works. $22. totally affordable.

thank you soooooo much for the recommendation. i might try to wear my hair wavy to work tomorrow or out tomorrow night if so i will post pics.

i also bought some hairspray because my hair tends to get flat after a few hours :/ so we will see if the hairspray helps!!! any other recommendations on holding products that don't make your hair crunchy? i got this really light "mist" hair spray that isn't supposed to be crunchy. we will see!!

I mostly use Treseme products on my hair but my hairspray is Pantene. It's the super hold stuff that also fights humidity. It's kind of stiff when you first spray it on but after 5 minutes the hair is soft again but the curl will still hold.

Quote :

i should have taken a pic last night but i didn't next time i will!!! you can do LOTS of things with it. well i mean you can make deep waves or tight ringlet curls etc. all depending on how you wrap your hair around it and the thickness of the pieces you wrap and whether you brush it or let it fall some before you spray it. i did burn myself once though when i wasn't wearing the heat protective glove. whoops.

BUT

FOUR (NOT even including my pseudo boyfriend) people, all men, told me i they liked my hair and/or that i looked pretty last night and no one says that just regularly. i mean these were my friends - my friends don't just say that stuff to me on the reg or like, ever really haha. so i was really happy. even if they were just saying it to be nice it really made my night.

it took awhile for me to do though because i am not a patient person and doing the back was hard. hopefully i will get better.

i haven't used aveda products regularly before. i might give them a try.

Quote :
"I was carded for a rated R movie last night and then the lady taking the tickets asked if I had a parent with me! wtf "

Sam - ugh i still get carded ALL THE TIME for EVERYTHING (except at bars where people know me, obviously). Rated R movies included. it is so annoying and people are sometimes dicks about it too like they don't believe me. i mean people are like "take it as a compliment" but to me it IS NOT a compliment. not at this point in my life. maybe if i'm like 40 and get carded, fine i'll be like "fuck yea." but i'm turning 27 in a week, i went to law school, i am looking for a job in the legal field...i want to be taken seriously not have people see me as a flighty, immature 16 year old girl.

one time this bartender at the oxford (i hate that place anyway but friends were there) gave me SUCH grief at the bar in front of a bunch of people on a crowded night AFTER the door guy had already checked my ID and let me in. the bartender was such a massive dick to me. he carded me at the bar (after i was let in by the bouncer) and then argued with me about my ID and asked if i had ANOTHER form. yea, i carry my passport around in raleigh. i really didn't understand. was i not blonde and beautiful enough for his bar or something? i mean i know i'm not hot but i'm not an obese humpback whale either. it went far beyond just doing his job. and it embarrassed me in front of other people, including my friends. and i told him so and that i wasn't going to spend my money there and neither were my friends. so we left.

at east village a few months ago i was eating with 2 guys and we were getting beers. and this bitch waitress addressed the GUYS and was like "can i see y'alls IDs. i'm sorry but SHE just looks really young" and pointed at me but said it to them like i wasn't even there and apologized for inconveniencing them. it really, really pissed me off. and the girl was probably 20.

this shit happens to me all the time. i don't mind being IDed that is fine. i get it, it is their job. but i have had so many instances of people being dicks to me about it. card me. card the group. but we don't need the side commentary or an argument when my ID has already been checked multiple times. i get treated like i'm not even a person because i look young.

I don't blame you for being pissed at all, kadwackle. My friend burst out laughing when the dude originally asked me because I had told her it happened before but I don't think she really believed me And she looks really young for her age so she understood where I was coming from. Then the girl taking tickets asked where my parents were and Tanya lost it.. I think that girl was a little embarrassed because at that point I wasn't very friendly about it and said, "I AM 24 YEARS OLD." Then I was expecting the damn manager in front of the theater to check my ID, but I think he heard me loudly say to Tanya, "I told you I get carded for rated R movies!" so he just looked away.

But with the bar thing, a few weekends ago when I had that bachelorette party, these guys behind us in line for a bar kept giving me shit because they said I looked like I was in high school and didn't believe my license was real (because it was out of state and I looked so young). I even showed them the hologram! Then the bouncer used that fancy scanning thing for IDs and I was all HAH TAKE THAT

Anywho, I guess we'll appreciate it when we're 30... right?

On a different note, I got my pics back and I wanted to share this shot (cropped, even though it was modest)

Man, I feel for models. I had to do that thing where you open your eyes after counting to 3 (because of direct sunlight) - it hurt.

thanks (again) ladies

I used Evoke, and it was part of our wedding package... but I believe she charges $250 for a session? That includes 3 looks and I believe it includes a 40 picture album (and her albums are high quality.. I have examples of our e-pics book). The hair and make-up is an extra charge of $195 from Elizabeth Tolley (she is amazing). Then you have to pay for the location -- that price greatly varies depending on how many women are having picture taken and where it's at. We did our pics at the Sutherland and another girl was there, too, so we only paid less than $100 iirc (and we were there for like 6 hours).

I know that sounds pretty pricey, but I can honestly say it was worth every penny. Plus, it was kinda nice to do something like this because Eric and I just don't see each other very often now since I'm in school... and it was something I wanted to do for myself as well. After working hard to feel healthier and better about myself, it was nice to see pictures demonstrating that

Here's another example of the make-up I had (for my last outfit change)

(my head looks giant because of how my hair was.. promise )

(this one was one of my favorites )

I was way nervous. Which is way very, very few of them are actually "sexy." And even then, it happened by accident. For example, one of my pictures is me doing the pose Kristin Wiig did in Bridesmaids (where she was imitating the penis). But April was really awesome about making you feel comfortable and making sure there weren't bad angles and such.

Yeah, he has - it's not a wedding gift, really... since I know he won't read this thread, I'm learning a song to play for him at the rehearsal dinner

^ This is exactly why I just asked my bridesmaids to pick a green, tea length dress. I am not about to try to pick a shade of green that looks good on so many different skin tones (fair, tan, olive, etc)... bump that.

Seriously. That's what I did too. I said, "Pick a red or turquoise dress. I don't really care the shade or shape." Funnily they all chose red for some reason.

That's what really kills me. This girl was one of my bridesmaids and she went on about how awesome it was I let them find the best dress for them rather than giving them a dress directive, but then she does just that Last I talked to her this was the dress she was leaning towards:

http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Short-Cotton-Dress-with-Soutache-Detailing-F13695_Bridal-Party-Bridesmaids-Shop-By-Color

Blech. And imagine that with orange bouquets. You won't even be able to see the flowers.

the thing about orange is that is just doesn't look that great on everyone... I actually think it's one of those colors that very few people can pull off (meaning when it's not just an accent and is a large portion of an outfit)

Alright, as a bridesmaid that was terrified of wearing a floor length "Burnt Sienna" dress (read really orange and my husband was a groomsman in a brown tux) it is not as bad as it sounds. The overall effect is actually quite nice. She had deep orange calla lillies, and the effect was overall wonderful. While it was not the color scheme I would have picked, and orange is not my color at all, it all came together nicely. I can't think of anyone the orange actually looked *bad* on either, and we were a pretty diverse group of shapes, sizes and shades.

^^^oh i agree!

i'm just very curious how its gonna be pulled together.

i believe (and i could be very wrong) that it can be done very classily and beautifully.
but its gonna take a whoooooole lot more than just "here wear this dress and carry these orange lilies"

^^thats what im thinking.....this could be kinda cool looking.
not at all what i would want, but cool nonetheless.

Definitely agreed--but this was VERY orange (not a deep color like the name sounds), but not tangerine. All I'm saying is, it may not be as bad as it sounds. And lots of brides don't want to do red or blue, because so many people do use variations on those shades.

Maybe she has a vision!

I think I'd actually be okay with burnt sienna. It has enough brown in it to counteract the orange.

Quote :

So far that seems to be what's she's going for It's weird because she says that her colors are going to be tangerine and aqua, like this:

but she has yet to show me a single blue thing lol.
