I really like the tough armor I have for my s5. Its pretty durable and looks great. I think I paid 13 bucks for it off amazon.

"Apples != oranges"

incorrect, my dense friend...in the context of my particular comment, the comparison is very much valid

we're comparing the ability for phones to NATIVELY make pure voip calls (ie. to all phone numbers, not just those using a particular service)...republic currently does, and has for some time now, been able to do this and it costs less than just about any other carrier or MVNO...furthermore, the iphone can only do this under certain circumstances whereas republic does not suffer the same limitations

the arguments of whether AT&T is better than sprint, or whether the iphone 6 is better than the moto X, are irrelevant because those are fully subjective

hopefully you've learned something today

So uh larger phone = larger battery. The displays on both iPhone 6's are still pretty low. The regular 4.7" isn't even full HD. The 5.5" is only 1080p. I imagine battery life will be better than older iPhones. My Note 2 battery life was amazing due to the much larger battery. Generally bigger phones have better battery life.

Yes but I think the much larger battery makes up for the light difference. Although the jump from 1136 x 640 on the iPhone 5 to 1920 by 1080 on the iPhone 6 plus is a 185% increase. So yeah who knows.

Video of AppleWatch: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2014/09/video-a-look-at-apples-new-hardware-products-in-motion/

Seems pretty slick actually, more so than I expected. Also not as ugly as I thought it would look on arm.

However, as someone with long arm hair, I worried it'll get tangled in the wheel.

Apple hasn't done anything 'new' for quite a while. They just take what has already been tried and "Apple-it". Or whatever you want to call it.

So yeah after watching some videos on the Apple Watch and features I will say it does look pretty cool. Like being able to send small messages to friends via haptic feedback. Your heartbeat, etc. Lol.

Not enough to get me to switch back to an iPhone but it's pretty slick.

^^^ I don't know any android users who know what NFC is, or have ever made an NFC payment, or even know how to make an NFC payment.

It's a pretty worthless "feature" if people never use it...

I used it a couple times at McDonald's but the novelty quickly wore off between the limited number of places it was available and having to hack the app anytime I updated it just because Verizon was an ass and refused to enable Google Wallet on their phones. It was always good for a couple "omg, how'd you do that"s. Defeats the purpose of my fancy metal card now though.

i use NFC on a regular basis, but for the same thing on multiple devices: audio

tapping my soundbar, jambox-esque portable speakers, and car stereo* to connect

* my phone actually connects automatically when i get in the car, but i like that tapping launches pandora and changes my stereo's input to BT streaming

plan to preorder a 64gb 6 plus tonight

carried around a spare note 3 at work today to see if i could get used to the size change from the 5s and i think it'll work fine - in my pants while sitting is the biggest concern really because in my hands it's fine - it looks a little ridiculous up to my ear but whatever

The thinness of phones nowadays makes the larger height and width not as big of a deal. My 5" screen Droid feels less bulky in my pocket than my older 3.7" Droid (which granted, had an extended battery)

I'm honestly surprised at the interest in the 6+. I didn't think it would sell as briskly as it did.

Ordering was a fucking nightmare early this AM. I tried like two or three times and then said fuck it. Was able to finally get into the Apple Store app when I woke up at a more reasonable hour this AM. Verizon's site kept giving me some sort of error as well.

^ agreed. that shit is way too big. I may be in the minority, but i've never wished my iPhone 5 was bigger.

My wife called me out last saturday when she walked into the living room and I was watching the state game on my phone on the ESPN app.

there was a 70" TV in front of me with an apple TV connected to it. three buttons and I'd be watching it on that. On the coffee table was my laptop, and my iPad.

but i was sprawled out on the couch watching it on my phone and was good with that. I guess the point is this: the inconvenience of the larger phone annoying me in my pocket outweighs any gains by having a larger screen. The next logical step in this argument is obviously about how I'm not going to dress like a 90's high school kid and fucking wear cargo shorts to better fit my phone in my pocket.

Do you know how many similarly sized phones have already sold?

I too think they're stupid, but there is obviously a big market demand for them.

^ I assumed it had already been sated by the Samsung/HTC contingency. Most of the people who wanted larger phones seemed to share a function over form mentality, which the general early/first-adopter Apple customer tends to eschew.

I bought the 64GB 6Plus for the better camera and battery life. If it's too big, I'll just return it. It's costing me exactly the same for what I paid for my 32GB 4S two years ago. Worst case scenario, I hate that it's too big, so I return it for a 6 and save $100.

I've gotten by fine with a 16GB ever since the 4. But I don't have any music. I prefer to stream the music anyway.

My 5s has a bunch of apps and over 1000 photos and I still have 4 gb free. I regularly backup my photos to an external HD, so it isn't that big of a deal to me.

Yeah I don't really have a need for that much storage space on my phones...I stream most music, and have a playlist or two saved for when I don't have data. Movies get watched on the laptop when I'm on the road.

Hmmm...

Option 1: Iphone 6, and prob buy an iPad Mini

Option 2: iphone 6+...bigger than I want as a phone, but would prob serve the purpose I want the iPad for

Option 3: keep iPhone 5

Option 4: ditch iPhone 5, don't get another smartphone, buy iPad mini and just use VOIP and a bluetooth earpiece/headset when I want to make voice calls. Only have one device, and at a rate of only $10/month plus whatever extra data I need (so prob $30-40/month total)

Lots must equal walking around with your phone like Google Glass, cause them shits don't take up *that* much room.

^^Option 1, or option 3 + iPad. You don't strike me as a dude who needs to save $30/month, and option 4 sounds like a huge pain in the ass...like tethering your phone as your home ISP pain in the ass.

^^I'm in Charlotte, but I went to the Verizon store about half an hour before they opened last year and was 15-20th in line. Several people who got their after me said the line at the Apple Store at Northlake was an absolute shitshow, hence their giving up and coming to the carrier store.

[Edited on September 15, 2014 at 6:22 PM. Reason : Supplies for the 6+ or gold will probably be pretty tight at the carrier stores, for what it's worth]
