Mm, I think you're hating on the orange too much.
One of my favorite color schemes.
I'm thinking about a citrus colored inspired wedding, honestly. I love bright colors.

See but that has yellows, whites, etc in it to balance with the orange. What she's talking about doing is monochromatic orange.
^^^ Oh I'll make sure to take plenty

Yeah the bridal party is going to be only orange. And so far all of the decor she has shown me is orange. So I'm wondering where the aqua is coming in
^^^ Right now she's planning on using wooden flowers instead of real flowers. I'm guessing those can be made whatever color she wants.

smcain, the colors I picked (Eric didn't really give a what about that part ) are citrus inspired!!
granny smith apple green + lemon yellow (and touches of orange... but not like the outside of an orange, think more of the inside of an orange.. lighter, but not peach)
and even though I say ^ those shades, we have a lot of different hues of each color.. I am a great believer of coordinating and not exactly matching 6/26/2011 6:38:22 PM |

diva just do it!!
make sure you get a good deal though. sewing machines aren't cheap and TRUST ME, you want a few bells & whistles on your machine or you just end up banging you head on the table non stop
i have a singer talent that i got on an amazon black friday deal for $120 shipped
right now joanns has 40% off 1 full price item coupons in the store (i think you can sign up to get their emails too) and this weekend for july 4th weekend they have another coupon for 10% off total purchase
so as long as the machine you wanted wasn't already on some sort of sale, you could get it for 50% off! of course do your research and make sure it's still a good deal but might be a good way to get a machine at a decent price and get started! 6/26/2011 8:02:23 PM |

since i posted the other stuff im going to go ahead and post this in here too...
some of you may remember this disaster of a dress that ended up looking like a hospital gown....
i ended up cutting out the pattern for the b&w skirt i posted above to make a seersucker version
holy cow it's super cute!! but major bummer.... i went a little too wild with the seam allowances and it doesn't fit. looks like i have to give it away to a skinnier friend
but seriously, i made this tonight after i posted the other stuff. it's that quick & easy. SO highly recommended!
since i cut this out of a dress that i already made, i had to get creative so there are seams in the front & back of this that the first one doesn't have. no big deal but it was an extra step.

I know I am super late on this topic, but going back to the orange bridesmaid dresses: As LK said, Brett and I are having the girls in orange and the guys in white linen shirts and khakis. To keep a sort of uniform look I chose a designer and color, which I went with Alfred Angelo, and had them just choose their own dresses in the tangelo color. I have 6 bridesmaids and they have all chosen different dresses and they all chose styles that suited them each individually, which is what I was going for. Our alternate color is cobalt and so my sister, who is the matron of honor, is wearing an Alfred Angelo dress in cobalt. I'm having the girls wear silver flip-flops (since we're going to be on the beach) and silver jewelry. I have bought Blue hair flowers for the girls and as far as the bouquets I think we are just combining blue, orange and white. Although I am up to suggestions there too! 6/26/2011 11:23:18 PM |

So, Divababy, can you suggest some ideas for flowers? Or even better can you send me pics of ideas? Flowers are one thing I know nothing about. I'll also take suggestions from others as well. Honestly, I don't care that much about flowers myself. I have been trusting my mom and sister on that.
And yes, linen in October. The wedding is 10/07 and on the beach. And it's what Brett wanted. I think it'll look fine. 6/27/2011 10:22:39 AM |

Piddle...I'm just searching, but here's some fun things
vibrant trio of garden roses, cymbidium orchids and gloriosa lilies is combined with orange pin cushions, fern curls and billy balls
For you - classic white bridal bouquet goes airy and delicate—a more contemporary look. Wonderful for an outdoor wedding, the almost monochromatic composition includes white garden roses, anemones, hellebores touched with pale green, Fritillaria verticillata, grape hyacinths, viburnum and jasmine.
pretty...but maybe not as BIG lol - Exquisite in its asymmetry, this bouquet, composed of white and orange seasonal roses and darker orange Chinese lanterns, takes its shape from the lanterns, which dangle gracefully like charms from a bracelet.
Hey TITS
Bittersweet berries, rose hips and crab apples add a whimsical movement to this bouquet of roses and asclepias
Flowers you can choose in the fall
Roses are always a classic wedding flower. They come in a wide variety of colors that are suitable to any season. However, if you are looking for something that is less traditional, you may consider some of these magnificent fall flowers. When purchasing them in season they are quite affordable and allow for fuller bouquets at a reasonable price.
Asters are the perfect daisy like filler flower. They come in several soft shades ranging from white, to pinks and lavenders. They even come in a bold yellow which would compliment any fall themed wedding.
Chrysanthemums are the perfect fall flower. The blossoms come in tiny button size or large pom pom blooms. The white chrysanthemum represents truth while the red symbolized love, both essential parts in a marriage. Mums are a wonderful compliment to Gerbera daisies. They are incredibly affordable and they come in a wide range of colors with the exception of blue. Colors range from warm oranges to deep russet reds, they even come in green. They lend themselves well to fall themed weddings.
Zinnias are the perfect flower for a bright robust fall bouquet. Zinnias come in bright pinks, red, orange and yellow. They are a colorful alternative to the classic white bridal bouquet. Gerbera daisies come in a variety of vibrant, cheerful colors and are a popular choice for modern wedding flowers. Traditionally, daisies represent beauty and innocence.
Sunflowers add a pop of color to any wedding ceremony. Their large blossoms make them a perfect flower for cascading bouquets. They make a wonderful choice for a causal outdoor wedding.
Sorry if I blew up the thread

I love Martha Stewart btw
Good read on the Color Wheel http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/article/wedding-color-palette
Quote : | "The spell cast by color can be subtle or blatant, but none of us is immune to its power. It affects the atmosphere of a room, the impressions we make when we meet someone for the first time, and the mood of a moment. In the context of a wedding, your choice of color can be especially important: All the details of the wedding -- the shoes, ribbons, flowers, dresses, candles, ring pillows, neckties -- are vehicles for color, and they work together to leave a lasting impression of the occasion.
One tool you can use when selecting colors is the color wheel (see below), a traditional device used to represent the colors of the spectrum and their relationship to one another. With the color wheel, you can see how some of your favorite colors -- whether of flowers or treasured keepsakes -- will work together. Beyond that, there are a number of things to consider.
There are seasonal criteria, for instance: Spring and summer are the perfect time for pastels, and summer is ideal for vivid colors as well. Autumn allows you to combine collections of brown, while rich jewel tones work well for holiday and winter weddings. Softly iridescent colors are best for daytime ceremonies and receptions; metallic neutrals, like bronze, gold, and platinum, work better at night.
Consider the environment of both the ceremony and the reception. If both take place in a garden in August, find out which flowers will be in bloom and decide what colors will best complement them. If the two events occur in different locales, choose a palette that works for both. A white church allows a lot of latitude in color choice, but a reception hall with a royal blue and gold patterned carpet will require a color scheme that doesn't compete. You might consider playing up the stronger color in the simpler, sparser church while toning it down for the reception room.
When using the color wheel, remember that a gentler effect is created by combining colors that lie adjacent to each other, such as green and blue, or yellow, peach, and orange. Combining dark and pale shades produces a richer effect. Colors that lie opposite one another will produce a vibrant, energizing combination, but it's best to keep one or both of the colors muted in this case.
You might also consider using different shades of a single color, varying the hue in intensity -- from ballerina pink to scarlet, for example. Finally, you can pair a color with white for an ethereal effect. Use many shades of the same color in all the accoutrements to avoid a monotonous look.
Color Wheel
1. Neighboring colors, such as orange, peach, and yellow, mix without clashing.
2. Reds and greens are opposite colors, and like most opposites, at their brightest, they look more bold than beautiful together. When both shades are muted -- to mauve and citrus green, for example -- the effect is subtle and sophisticated.
3. Use the entire range of a single color, from pale to dark, and pair it with a neutral for a rich palette. (I LOVE THIS)
4. White is the traditional wedding color. Adding one color lends a dramatic spark." |
