One more piece of advice I need:
We are doing 2 different places for our pics on Friday. One will be at a horse barn I used to work at and the other will be downtown. I have a dress picked out for downtown but I have no idea what I should wear for the barn. I have riding jodhpurs and boots. Or should I go with jeans or shorts?

anyone watch my big fat gypsy wedding? (if not, DONT watch it on TLC, just watch the UK version on youtube, the "american" narration is really dumbed down)
this bitch had a custom dress made with mechanical butterflies on it
the dressmaker was afraid it would combust (a la michael jackson) and actually carried a fire extinguisher around the wedding "just in case"

Where do y'all buy business attire? Where can one find business fashion advice? I really suck at business fashion. 6/27/2011 7:33:20 PM |

I stick to NY & Co and express. Typically. Because I can't afford much more 6/27/2011 8:01:25 PM |

What field are you in? What is your price point? Those make a big difference. If you're looking for law, the answer is a lot different from business casual at a doctors office for instance.
I usually stick to Banana Republic, Ann Taylor Loft, etc for my business attire. I have 3 suits from Banana, 1 suit from Ann Taylor, a Calvin Klein suit (fits me the least well, btw), and a Tahari suit. Banana is by far my favorite in fit, and cost.
This blog is my go to for business fashion: http://corporette.com/ But it caters towards women with money to spend, and in high end positions. But you can glean tips for those of use who don't fit either category.
(It took me 3+ years to build up a business wardrobe, so start small, get a few pieces and rotate them, and add little by little).

i love the limited and banana republic
also the loft but i feel like their quality has gone downhill recently
do you need help building a professional wardrobe or just finding a place to shop? 6/27/2011 8:14:05 PM |
wolfpackgrrr All American 39759 Posts user info edit post |
^ I feel the same way about the Loft.
I need help building a professional wardrobe. At my last job it was pretty business casual so I usually just wore khakis and a nice top. But I had to abandon most of those clothes since they were so expensive to ship back to NC
Right now I'm doing bullshit temp work but I'm trying to get a job in university administration. I just kind of tired of going for slacks and plain buttoned shirt since I generally have zero clue what's fashionable in business these days and most of the women in my current office dress frumpy as hell. I don't want to be frumpy 6/27/2011 8:20:37 PM |

i would buy my dress pants at banana republic, but I'd get tops wherever--NY&Co, Express, Target, BR, Anthropologie, Loft 6/27/2011 8:28:26 PM |

i know a lot of ladies can comment on this, i'll just get us started
some ground rules for professional vs business casual-- whats the difference?
professional = nothing sleeveless, no bare leg showing (must wear panty hose, ugh), no open toed shoes
thats the main part of it
business casual = short sleeves are ok but still nothing sleeveless (imo), open toed shoes are ok but only if they're pumps. sandals, flops & anything without a back (unless it's a sling back) is not ok. also i think you can get away with not wearing panty hose.
actually depending on your geography, its possible to professionally skip the panty hose for entire months of the year even in a professional setting
you probably already know that, but i wanted to set the stage for the advice i would give based on professional & business casual definitions
polo shirts & khakis are perfectly business casual for men but i feel it is way too casual for women. again, my opinion.
professional dresses are my fav to wear because it's easy and in the summer, much cooler! i feel you on slacks and button down everyday-- snoozefest! 6/27/2011 8:44:03 PM |

Best I can do to show my wedding bouquet. My bff and I put all the bouquets together because I could not afford for someone else to do it. Also, I paid $100 for all my flowers and had someone else do all the boutineers for about $9 apiece at Whole Foods.
My favorite flower is prob belles of Ireland so I kind of like the "wild flower" look too. Green flowers are my favorite!
