thats an after the fact joke, bend gate didn't start because people bent their iphones because they thought it was a feature
did you seriously think that's what started it? sounds like you got trolled
seriously, how did you think that's what caused it? the link you included even had dates, those posts are from the 24th and that's after this all became news (macforum posts were on the 21st, if not before). and you shouldn't even need dated to understand that they are taking advantage of the situation to try to make a joke and troll others. wow.

Interesting, the wired review mentioned the ease with which it bent as well.
I'm not a big fan of apple products in general (ditched my iphone 3 for a droid and haven't looked back), I think product quality has really gone to shit in the last 5 years especially. Innovation is pretty non-existent as well.
From what I can tell it's really the robust app market and the "fashion statement" marketing that's carrying apple. Anecdotally I know very few people who have gone from an iphone to a droid and then switched back. 9/27/2014 10:10:49 PM |

Annecdotally, I've had my 6 plus in both my front and back pocket since I got itt and my fatass hasn't even come close to bending it, even in work pants, much less cargo shorts that show off my fat ass. Annecdotally, me and all my friends jumped shipped from Android circa 2012 when all our Android phones were pieces of shit because of force closures and piss poor performance and hung on until the 6+ and we laugh at everyone else with a shitty Android that has an awful video camera. 9/28/2014 3:05:22 AM |

Seriously?
I mean anecdotal product quality issues are just the natural occurrence of manufacturing millions of devices a quarter.
And non-existent innovation?? Really?? I mean sure with all the feature leaks etc... it's tough for keynote features to make a big WOW splash. The A7/A8 is the best phone processor by a LARGE margin. TouchID has embarrassed every other biometric implementation ever. The camera improvements Apple is making are putting point and shoots out of business (and soon consumer dSLRs). Apple Pay will likely be the implementation of NFC that finally brings about cardless payments in the US. Not to mention the supply chain / manufacturing innovations that are occurring in order to ramp millions of devices.
Not an indictment for your switch to Android, it serves a large market that Apple doesn't really target (nor want to target). But to say that Apple hasn't innovated is just plain wrong.
Innovation doesn't always happen by huge jumps, more often it is evolutionary.

Yeah if anyone is arguing this #bendgate is a 4chan or reddit prank they're completely out of touch. The fake Apple ad was the prank.

The one guy has something like 50 million hits. I can only imagine that covers his costs, if he even had any to begin with.

Yeah I can't cosign that one. iPhones 4 and 5 were incredibly solid devices. I can only imagine the 6 is too. The 6 plus however...we shall see

they aren't really widgets though. i was excited when i heard the news, but they are not actually widgets in the common understanding of the word. they basically just integrated one of the most popular jailbreak features and made it part of the OS, and that's good, but they aren't actually widgets 9/28/2014 12:57:57 PM |

Oh this totally confirms my hypothesis that despite having the largest screen the Galaxy Note 3 is a beast:
http://gizmodo.com/consumer-reports-bend-test-pits-iphone-6-plus-against-t-1639756245
Quote : | "Using an Instron compression test machine to squash the devices, the publication added force in 10 pound increments until the phones were permanently bent. Surprisingly, the plastic-bodied Galaxy Note 3 came out on top, withstanding an entire 150 pounds of force before giving out, while the iPhone 6 Plus took only 90 pounds. The LG G3 had a strong showing at 130 pounds, and the HTC One M8 and iPhone 6 came in last by withstanding just 70 pounds of pressure. " |

^^ point loads don't represent real life, your pocket is a distributed load. the iPhone does well on point load tests, but because of the weak point in the reinforcement for the volume button and sim card cutouts, fails in real life with a distributed load like a tight front pocket. that's why iPhones have bent in pockets but HTC One's have not.

For people with the 6, how has your battery life been?
I realize it wasn't supposed to be much of an improvement over the 5s, but from my first couple days what I'm seeing might actually be worse.
On a day with the exact same usage pattern as with the 5s, the 6 has only about 10% more battery than my 5s, which was a year old. Since the battery life drops drastically after the initial few months, I'm thinking that in a year the 6 battery will actually be doing worse than the 5s.
Anyone else noticing this? Should I take it to Apple? 9/30/2014 9:19:01 AM |

I have had no trouble with the battery.
I consider myself a heavy user and I only fully charge every other day. 9/30/2014 9:24:27 AM |
ElGimpy All American 3111 Posts user info edit post |
What's heavy? You have the 6 right, not the 6 plus?
Here is my day: Wake up fully charged, listen to music (not streaming) for roughly 45 minutes, get to work, battery at 97%. While at work I have bluetooth and wifi connected, streaming Spotify all day. By the time I left work I was at around 30% ... 5s at around 20% generally
so streaming music, wifi, and bluetooth for around 8 hours total...other than that pretty minimal usage

Video quality on the 6 Plus is incredible. I was at a show the other night with really loud bass and crappy light conditions and the video clips I shot sound and look fantastic. Most other smart phones can't handle a lot of bass when recording and sound like absolute shit. iPhones are definitely great PS cameras. DSLRs though? Naw. Not yet anyway. 9/30/2014 12:25:52 PM |

eh, i take issue with this, too...a camera phone is (currently) only better than nothing at all (and within that category, there are better and worse options)
don't get me wrong, i DO use my phone's camera on a regular basis, but only casually...if i'm going somewhere or doing something where i know i'll want to do something with the images afterward (ie. anything that isn't post to facebook), i bring a real camera
sensors and image processors ARE getting better, though, and once they add optical zoom that 1.) doesn't suck, and 2.) doesn't add any appreciable size or weight to the camera, i might actually find more excuses for leaving my real cameras at home

Looking at $100 sunk in ST & $175 if I have to actually use it. I gave away $100 last time....

The going rate to repair 5/5S screens seems to be around $100-110. The 6 will be a little more out of the gate but once those repair people learn to do it quickly i imagine the cost will be about the same. I have never bothered with ST and probably won't with this next phone either. 10/2/2014 10:21:36 AM |

Depends on what you value I suppose. I was not a big fan of Apple until about 1999-2000. Anyway, I don’t like the idea of a company that makes money off of my data/advertising having access to everything that I do on my phone, so Google was out. I understand they provide some nifty services though, so to each his own. 10/4/2014 1:50:49 PM |

I guess I don't buy much into the claims that either company has your "interest at heart" when it comes to data, and I don't think one offers particularly better security either. 10/4/2014 4:40:30 PM |
