I don't think it's unreasonable to say trivia is mostly late 20s to 30s. I'd expect this to be truer in the suburbs too. Even regular bada it's at least mid 20s and beyond

it's kinda weird to just wander up to a team and ask to join but people have done that to us before and we were welcoming. I think the better course of action is to sit at the bar and ask people around you if they'd like to collaborate or ask to join a team already sitting at the bar. Going up to random tables will look/feel weirder but if you're cool I don't see it being a big problem for most teams.
