i'm tired of the stations using the ticket as advertising for their own website or programs

all they really need is a fucking box in the corner that shows that scrolls across the counties that are in warnings. it doesn't need to be all the way across the screen

it doesn't need to state the obvious/not needed

At our station, we mostly try to direct people to our website during the times we aren't on air, which is a given. We just have a small box that sits the in corner listing the warnings for the area, much smaller than most stations. We only break into coverage if there is either 1. a tornado in the viewing area, 2. warning for the main county (i.e. Knox), or 3. a line of multiple county warnings. Even with those, we will either shorten the stories during the newscast and feature weather, or break into coverage WHEN IT IS ABSOLUTELY NEEDED. Even those are just long enough to name the counties under warnings, and show where the storm is going. If it's severe enough, we'll stay with it.

It's gotten to the point where most people would rather be caught off guard with a tornado than miss their favorite show, but I know with some stations, the coverage for one lone storm with no problems can go too far.

I tried to time my trip to raleigh (to drop my sister off at my parents', near western and 440, so that I could be home before the storm hit my place near the 70/401 split.

It came faster than I expected, so I parked, and we watched the storm for a bit, and then i dropped her off, got dinner from ruckus, and came home.

I was in the thick of it a good bit
