Yeah, my buddy at work said he read on packpride (yeah I know that a weak connect) that Smith still was 200 pts shy on his SAT. However, he has 3 more tries to raise his score...

Either way, this is good news . Welcome to the fam, Tracy...
(even if you dont qualify this year, we will send you to M Academy unitl you do)

SF Jordan Hamilton a 5* player for the 2009 class out of Los Angeles was reported by the Charlotte Observer to be making an unofficial visit to State while being in the area for the Bob Gibbons Tournament. I believe Rivals has also confirmed this. Preferably we'll get the best player(s) in the state every year (provided they fit in the system), and get some of the top players in the nation as well, which is what you'll need to get an NCAA Championship.

There's a premium article on Rivals, but I'm not a premium subscriber.

^^How'd that go?

Here's a blurb from Al Featherstone fromm DBR about C.J. Williams:

Quote :
"2. C.J. Williams, 6-5, 205, Fayetteville, N.C. - I got to see this N.C. State commitment Friday night and was disappointed as the game started because he was on the bench in street clothes. One of the veteran recruiting writers told me that Williams has been hurt all spring.

Imagine my surprise when I looked back in the second half and saw the future Wolfpack player on the court!

Williams played as an undersized power forward and seemed a little stiff - especially for a kid who is going to have to be an ACC wing player. However, I talked to him later and it turns out that he’s just returning after missing seven weeks with an inflamed disc in his back.

Come to think of it, that’s another pretty good example of why it’s dangerous to judge a player too quickly.

i feel obliged to post that pp is reporting that bartosz won't play anymore, and thus our basketball program will no longer have him on the scholarship count (reportedly he will remain on scholarship, however).

i'm really starting to hate pp.

why? because it's where you get your facts?

TWW always feels they're the end all be all of message boards. I've never heard anything but good information from the reliable posters on PP premium. Sure you get your misinformed and your jackasses..but tell me how that is ANY different from here.

All you see on here is people talking trash about it, and then two minutes later posting info they got from there. hypocrisy lives!

the only issues i have w/ PP is the fact that most of them are pricks

but the information is better than it is here:

here is some copy / paste action about Jordan Hamilton

Quote :
"This is from a syracuse fan blog....

"Hamilton, who is a bit older than the most of his 09 classmates, was named to the All Tournament team for the 17-and-under division, and was ranked the 15th best player overall in that group by HoopScoop, but 4th among sophomores in the division. Hamilton was also won the overall scoring championship in that division, averaging 27.7 points per game. While he was at the TOC, he took the opportunity to visit the campus of North Carolina State, where he told the Wolfpack Rivals affiliate that he he received an offer. The bad news is that this adds yet another school to his list, and one that he said he likes more than the campuses of Arizona and USC, two of the perceived favorites for his services; the good news is that in the same article he says that he is not so high on one of the local favorites for his talents, UCLA, because he doesn't like Ben Howland's style of play."

So if any truth holds to this....looking at the scout.com list he has right now...

Cali
UNC
OSU
Syracuse
Texas Tech
Texas
UCLA- sounds like we are in better shape
USC - ahead
Arizona (not even listed on scout but mentioned above)

ha. I'd wager that Sid and his sources on players are way better collective judge of rising talent than 98% of these "professional college hoops scouts" anyways.....

yay! so that means he has an academic scholarship but not an athletic one now? Thats one more spot to fill for either this year or next...

So we are competing directly with UNC for top 10 recruits? No way.... could it that we may actually be living down the whole UNC bball > NCSU bball (for recent success/media hype/fanbase) with the simple fact that SidneyLowe (and playing style) > RoyBoy (and playing style) factor ? ...interesting...

Not yet. But we shouldn't measure our recruiting to Duke and UNC. Duke/UNC are at a higher level (recruiting ranking wise) than any program in the country and the ESPN hype will assure that it stays that way for the foreseeable future. The important part is what you DO with that talent you do get...

It's still going to be tough to beat UNC head to head in a recruiting battle unless the kid just downright doesn't like UNC (in other words, grew up a State fan)

What's weird is that Syracuse guys blog talks about him really liking his visit here, and then in his little breakdown he has UNC listed and not us. You think he's screwed that up and really meant to put us, or do you think UNC is recruiting him too and he just hasn't updated and put us on his list yet?

^^Beerz, you're a moron. That was Al Featherstone. He's probably more knowledgable than anyone about ACC college bball save David Glenn around here.

It's not like he bashed Williams, he just said he looked stiff, and rightly so (7 weeks off for injuries, etc.).

"The 6-foot-7, 190-pounder proved to be no fluke at the Bob Gibbons' Tournament of Champions held over Memorial Day weekend across the Triangle. Hamilton was the leading scorer in the event while playing for Lamar Odom's I-Can All Stars AAU team. He chipped in 27.7 points a game, leading his team to a 2-1 record in a competitive pool.

"I was pretty pleased with how I played," Hamilton said. "You know there is always room for improvement and I definitely can get better."

Hamilton's team did not get a chance to play in either brackets following pool play because they lost the tiebreaker, but while the squad was done, Hamilton remained busy by taking an unofficial visit to NC State following the tournament.

"The visit was good, I enjoyed it a lot," Hamilton said. "The Tournament of Champions was a great event. I really like NC State. They are definitely one of my top schools.

"I have taken unofficial visits to Arizona and USC, but I liked NC State the most. They have kind of a quiet environment. It's a nice area, and they have a nice coach in Sidney Lowe."

Hamilton admits his recruitment is just getting started and he does not expect to make a final decision until next year, but already some offers are trickling in.

"I have offers from UCLA, Texas, Syracuse, USC and North Carolina State has offered me as well," Hamilton said. "Recruiting is basically starting for me, but I do like NC State the most right now."

The Pack may have to overcome a hometown favorite in UCLA, but Hamilton actually downplayed his loyalty to the Burins.

"I can't see myself going there because it's not really my style of play," he noted.

Hamilton showed great versatility at the Tournament of Champions. He helped handle the basketball, had several nice assists, stepped outside and drained many three-pointers and flashed his athleticism with several highlight-reel worthy dunks.

"I'm probably going to be a shooting guard in college," Hamilton said, "a shooting guard and small forward."

Stay tuned for highlights of Hamilton in action from the Tournament of Champions.

That's great that he has us as basically his favorite right now, and over Texas is a pretty good statement too.

Hopefully we'll have a solid season and this kid will like the style of play we bring to the table.

We need this guy Terrelle Pryor.

He's the #6 small forward in the country. The catch is he's also the #1 QB/overall player in the country. He could save the football and basketball programs at the same time........hopefully not like Ronald Curry did for UNC.

did ya'll see the article about cj williams in the winston newspaper?

“All my friends at school, they get on me a little bit talking about how I can be a Carolina fan and go to N.C. State,” Williams said. “You can love a school anyway. I love Carolina, but N.C. State was just a better fit for me as a player and as a person. I feel strong and firm in my decision to go to N.C. State.”

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing C.J. on the sideline seating when I was watching that game on TV. C.J. Williams throws up the Wolfpack gang sign a lot at games. I can't really get mad at a basketball playing kid from North Carolina that admits he liked Carolina growing up. I mean they are the darling school of the state, and have been one of the most dominant bball programs of all time. It would be like a hockey player drafted by the Calgary Flames, but had grown up around Edmonton. We'll quickly convert him to the light side of the force, we already have started.

Glad to hear that Hamilton has us at the front and enjoyed the campus. Now lets find him on myspace/facebook and bombard him with reasons for why he should choose State over everyone else. Players can't verbal to a school until their junior season, correct?

So...JJ wasn't "big time"?

The man is in the top 10 on Rivals. I think that is at least pretty damn close to "big time".

Also, what does Billy Donovan leaving Florida mean for the recruiting scene? Is it too late for those kids to be let out of their recruitment for next year? Does Bartosz leaving give us a scholarship that could theoretically be used on a Florida recruit who decides to decommit?

And does anyone else think it is pretty funny that Dan Werner decommitted from us because his dad didn't know what kind of college coach Sidney was, and now Werner has no coach at Florida?
