Thanks, it's most like this one but a little different. You can't see any metal on the band except little prongs and the band diamonds a little bigger.

Jumping back to the last page, my ring is Moissanite and is amazing. It doesn't look costumey--people don't know it's not a diamond unless I tell them--but if you get it in the right lighting, it fills up with prisms. I also don't have to deal with guilt over my husband spending too much money on it, or over small children in Africa suffering so I can wear a piece of compressed carbon on my finger. (Although conflict-free diamonds avoid the latter problem as well.)

I wouldn't blow it off without checking it out for yourself first. Everyone I know that's gotten it loves it, and the customer service I've received from the site we purchased from (http://www.fromthesky.com) has been amazing. I had to send it off not long after I got it because the setting was a little wonky, but they took care of it with no problem and quickly, too!

It's official - http://www.allisonfowlerphotography.com/Events/Kirk-Liz/12443642_uoE2C#890948440

You'll have to go to picture 43 to get an up-close of the ring.

i don't really understand engagement photo sessions. are you going out there and faking it after the real thing has already happened? it seems kinda dumb to me.

today is our first anniversary btw

NCSUWolfy is correct. I have a friend that's a photographer that I was scheming with, she helped pick out the spot we would go to and everything. My gf and I were already planning to take a picnic so it wasn't out of the ordinary and then my friend hid-out and got pictures of the whole thing so we can share with friends and family that want to see.

We went to Price's Chicken Coop in Charlotte to get take-out and the photographer wanted to get pictures of everything from the picnic.

people do them for newspaper engagement announcements, photos to include on their save-the-date, or as an opportunity for a more casual photo session to feel out/get to know their photographer b4 the wedding

^yeah none of ours had fake proposal shots...we were trying to get a good photo of us for the newspaper announcement and get to know our photographer and how he worked better.

no, i completely understand the engagement photo for the newspaper. we did that, but it was just a normal pic of him kinda standing half behind me hugging me. i'm talking about the ones where the couple is walking along the beach, then there's a shot of their toes in the water, then he's on 1 knee, she pretends to be surprised, etc etc... they're reenacting the whole thing. just seems pretty lame & cheesy imo.

I don't own any rings. Have never really seen the point of them if they're not your wedding ring

it has to be a legit engagement ring"

Personally I think crap like this is incredibly gaudy and not practical for everyday wear:

And this one is just straight up bad

About all this Diamond's Direct mumbo jumbo....

Personally, if you are not willing to take your time and be patient at a diamond store on one of the biggest purchases of your life thus far, perhaps you are not ready to be making said purchase.

We went last Saturday to get my fiance sized and to look at wedding bands for me and we waited approx 30 minutes to see "our guy" and he explained he was helping another couple and would we mind coming back for an appointment on Tuesday. When we came back for our appointment, we were given undivided attention and help. Go to Diamond's Direct, ask for Richard Posey. PROFIT. You might have to wait awhile to see him, or set up an appointment and come back. He is so nice and I got an amazing ring that I love. He helped my fiance and spent time working with him.

You guys seem to forget that the reason they are busy is not because they are in the back room fingering their bellybuttons...it's because they are helping other customers who are there making a big purchase, JUST LIKE YOU.

Also, as for this:
Quote :
"but honestly I don't know how I would bring it up that I didn't like a ring.. I would feel bad "
My fiance's best man proposed a week after we got engaged but HE SHOWED HER THE RING BEFOREHAND TO SEE IF IT WAS THE ONE SHE WANTED since she had picked out a different band in the store....We were both like WHAT!?

[Edited on June 7, 2010 at 4:29 PM. Reason : I think it ruins the moment personally.]

stumbled into the "so this is probably going to wind up with us getting married huh?" talk over the weekend (aka DTR Part Deux). learned that she would rather us buy a nice boat together than her get a $$$$ ring that she isnt even really all that into in the first place, and by doing so further solidified my belief that im probably doing the right thing here when we do finally get around to ring shopping/etc. but i still have atleast a year before im ready to go down that road.

that's certainly a nice opinion, but does it explain the rude and hurried attitude two DIFFERENT people at diamonds direct had with my fiancee and i? they went from "we're so nice and patient" to "hurry up and GTFO of our store" when they found out i was using her mother's diamond and was just looking at a ring

diamonds direct folks are nice if they think they'll make a fair chunk of change on you...when you dissuade them of that notion, they're assholes (in my experience anyway)

to each their own...i like patient people who are polite regardless of how much you're going to spend in their store and you might like selfish ones who change their demeanor depending on how much money they think they'll make on you

*shrug*

About to jump into this arena....

I actually have my grandmother's engagement ring. It's very classic and simple with a gorgeous round rock, with two baguettes on each side, with a small round stone at the end of each baguette.

What are the ladies thoughts on being presented with an old, but beautiful ring?

I don't think Eric would've cared about them being busy if they had at least come up and said "Hey we'll be right with you... we're helping someone else." But it was the being ignored part that bothered him

Oh well, Bailey's worked out really well for me

and honestly, about the grandmother's ring, I think an old, beautiful ring would be awesome

That's what I wanted: specifically, I wanted this ring. Then I noticed it had sold. So QTPie had it recreated. Everyone thinks it's an heirloom.

Old rings, especially if they are also beautiful (and thus, likely to be considered classic or timeless), are a resounding yes. Even more so if it's a family piece.

I'd say that you should probably reset the diamonds in your grandmother's ring, even if you like the setting the way it is now and think your fiancee would dig its style... something about wearing a dead (presumably, since you didn't say otherwise) woman's ring is a little bit creepy to me, though the sentiment of it being your grandmother's is sweet

this is completely unrelated, but the more I think about engagement rings, the less I like the idea of that amount of money going to waste on my finger when we could use it for so many other things

no we didn't pay that much. But Tycoon is great. swoon. And I will wear it by itself since it is too big to wear with anything else.

also this isn't my ring, as mine has over 2cts of diamonds.

Agreed, I'd rather have something useful than an easily lost ring.

I'm in love with this design, and I think it was going for around $400 <3

That's kind of like what we did. We had a modernized version of my wife's grandmother's ring made. I had a picture of both in this thread way back, but it was lost in one of the TWW picture wipes and I haven't re-uploaded it.

i'd LOVE it. can you post a pic here? what style is it? maybe you don't know haha. i love edwardian rings and any vintage style ring really.

my grandmother passed away in march and i'm getting her ring. it is fucking AMAZING. it has a giant diamond with two or four sapphires (i can't remember). its really pretty (IMO). i will post pics when i get it (before it gets put in a safe deposit box). i don't know what i'm going to use it for since i'm a female. would it be weird to use it as an engagement ring when the time comes? and its so pretty i dunno if i'd trust myself to wear it everyday.

anyway if you know your prospective finance well enough you should be able to gauge if vintage is her thing. if not you can always use the stones and just get a new setting made that she'd like.

my grandmother's ring is similar in style to this, but this isn't really exactly like it at all. i couldn't find a good picture of something closer to the style. it is a lot prettier than this:

its over 100 years old. it was her husband's (my grandfather's) mother's engagement ring. and it was someone else's before that. i can't remember exactly how the story goes.

but i kinda also see fuchsia's point. did your fiance know your grandmother? i guess that maybe wearing a dead woman's ring could be creepy. i like things with history and stories so it doesn't creep me out but i can see how it might creep some people out.
