Exactly...
We up and told Kelly and Wall to not even bother since we're going in other directions. Same with Oden a few years back. No room on our squad for guys like this.
Favors better be careful too, or he'll be on the outside looking in next month this time. 8/5/2008 1:18:09 PM |

good article on 2009 recruit Keith Dewitt
for those that don't know, he had some off the court issues that sidelined his basketball carreer for a while, but he's got his life back together now and is playing at Charis Prep in Wilson
this guy will be a 21/22 year old when he graduates from prep school, so physically he is pretty mature

ESPN shows he's already been offered. I wonder what he did? I have only seen that he has personal and legal problems, sounds like he needs a father figure like Sid to lead him straight.

Well, ESPN says he has been offered but it's insider and I find it later.
On a serious note, this kid was living on the streets with no financial support and is now in prep school. I just looked and this school is $7,000 per year. Can he receive financial support from someone besides his mom or other relatives? He's married so maybe his wife's family? 8/5/2008 2:03:32 PM |

I think we have a PG(brown), SG/SF(wood), and PF(howell) committed. Adams would be another SG, which leads me to believe that we'll probably take five in this class. I'm sure the staff knows we need another big so if they want to use a scholarship on him, they have another waiting for a PF/C. 8/5/2008 2:38:56 PM |

Per ESPN:
Quote : | "June, 2008: Adams is a skilled shooting guard with good size. His biggest weapon is a smooth pull-up jumper that he can go to after one dribble or when stopping quickly in transition. But he is also a very versatile offensive player. He is a consistent catch and shoot threat from behind the three-point line and is also good enough with the ball to get into the lane off the bounce. He does a nice job of utilizing a pro hop in the lane, but he isn't very explosive and can consequently struggle to finish at times. Defensively, he is a very good on-the-ball defender as he gets low in his stance, works to pressure the ball, and moves well laterally. However, he needs become a better defender on the weak side of the floor as he can often get lost when relied upon to help or rotate. " |
A few things to like. Good shooter, good defender, good in transition. Sounds a lot like CJ Williams to me, maybe a little less explosive.8/5/2008 4:32:09 PM |

Under "Standouts"
Quote : | "Scott Wood 2009 SF (6-6 185) Marion, Ind. Scott is one of the better shooters in the class of 2009. He can stroke it to the new 3point line (20 9") with range and accuracy. Whether he is cutting of a screen or spotting up when his man goes to help Scott understands and exhibits excellent shot preparation. His foot work is strong as he gets his toes pointed toward the rim , his shoulders squared in a hurray, his head is up, his eyes see the ball into his catch, and his hands are ready in his shooting pocket to release the shot. Moving without the ball is an art that Scott utilizes as his teammates look to get him shots. He uses screens well as he reads how his defender is playing him and makes the proper cut .(straight, curl ,fade) When defenders over play he makes a back-cut to the rim. With his length and size he can shoot over most defenders. When his jumper is not there Scott will find the open man because he plays with his head up and is unselfish. He shows a good shot fake when the defender closes-out on his jumper, and then gets to his middle game effectively." |

Quote : | "Scott Wood, the slender 6-6 wingman from Marion, Ind., hopes his showing at the AAU U-17 tournament this week has a carry-over effect.
"I played well here," said Wood, who has committed to North Carolina State. "My teammates are great."
Wood totaled 225 points (22.5 points per game) in 10 games. His SYF Players took third-place -- the organization's highest-ever finish at the U-17s -- defeating traditional power BABC (Boston) on Friday afternoon at the Milk House. Wood scored 19 points in the bronze medal game, beating BABC for the first time in three tries this summer.
The AAU showcase tournament allowed Wood to regain his scoring touch after an injury (hematoma near his hip) robbed him of more than eight games last season at Marion High. " |
Quote : | "Wood, who is a preseason candidate for Indiana's Mr. Basketball (Marion has four previous winners), played with prep teammates, Ja'Rob McCallum and Jovon Freshwater, who aim for Marion's eighth state championship this year and the first since 1987. The Giants and preseason favorite Lawrence North (Indianapolis) meet in early December.
"Can't wait for the [high school] season," Wood said. "But this summer was great. I'll miss playing with these guys. We're really close."" |

Adams could be a good pickup. He seems like a scorer that doesn't have much trouble getting to the lane and has a decent jump shot. I doubt he'd play right away. He could be good for driving to the lane and dishing if the defense collapses or putting up a floater/pull up jumper if the defense doesn't collapse. I really hope that us offering doesn't mean Johnny Thomas' injury is too severe for him to return. I was looking forward to seeing Thomas play, and I'd hate to see him never get to play in a college game. At least Bartosz got to play a minute or two. 8/5/2008 5:55:55 PM |

I think the fact that ACC schools like Miami, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest, as well as an SEC team in South Carolina, with their new coach Darrin Horn, are good signs. All three of Miami, VT, and WF were better than us last year, so I trust those coaches have eyes for talent, especially the kind of talent that is usually overlooked, but can become big contributors after two or so years. 8/5/2008 8:37:59 PM |

We are on the radar for 2010 4* SF/SG Victor Oladipo who hails from DeMatha. Remember that Sid and Whitt both went to DeMatha, as well as asst. coach Pete Strickland. Rivals rates him as a 4* prospect and the 11th best SG nationally, and #52 overall. He has early offers from George Mason, SMU, and VCU.

we got some love from Rivals' Jerry Meyer regarding our 2009 recruiting class: http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=835388 " I love the way NC State's class is shaping up.
Lorenzo Brown could play both guard positions for the Wolfpack. Lorenzo Brown, the No. 37 prospect in the Rivals150, has tremendous natural talent as a point guard and quite a high ceiling. With size for the position, Brown has an instinct for the game and a feel for getting the ball to teammates. He is also a disruptive force on defense. The consistency on his outside jumper has room for improvement, but I feel he will shoot the ball well enough to keep the defense honest. That will allow him to play to his strengths of driving and distributing. Because of Brown's size, coach Sidney Lowe will have the luxury of playing him at both guard positions. I wouldn't be surprised to see him be one of the better combo guards in the ACC toward the end of his career.
Richard Howell, the No. 59 prospect in the Rivals150, continues to grow on me the more I watch him. No, he isn't the most athletic or sexy player out there, but he simply gets it done. He really embodies the best of both worlds as a power forward. He is an aggressive rebounder with an advanced and physical low-post scoring game. He is also a face-up threat with his ability to put the ball on the floor, pass it and shoot it. Like Brown, Howell is also a two-position player. The four is his natural position, but in today's age of small ball, he has the strength to defend and rebound as a center. He also has the footwork and fakes to score down low as a five man.
Scott Wood, who is ranked in the last slot of the Rivals150, is due for a jump in the rankings after some monster games in July. I like his length and his savvy as an all-around player. If he is shooting lights out like he did in July, then he is a guy who you need on the floor. If he can bulk his frame up some, he can play some three as well as the two. "

Matt Wilson committed to UNC-Wilmington. For those that don't know about him, he is a teammate of Ryan Kelly at Ravenscroft, and is a 6-11 center who we were looking at. He was mainly a back up if we didn't land Favors. He wouldn't have contributed right away, but we could have potentially developed him. Not really a big loss and we never offered him even though he did visit us some. 8/9/2008 8:52:38 PM |
