I love that I feel TWW is acting as the voice of reason on this case over some other online commentators. I've been reading about the trial on websleuths and if you haven't heard of it, it's a ridiculous forum, and those people are idiots. They're basically amateur detectives trying to figure out how he could have possibly done it, cleaned his home to forensic standards, and leave no actual evidence behind to convict him! I'm sure the defendant would rather have a "not guilty" than a hung jury. Although, anything is better than life in prison at this point I guess. And this judge has fucked up enough it ought to be overturned if it were appealed!

^^ Not likely. Peer pressure is powerful, and juries are pretty much rubber stamps. The jury selection process is specifically designed to weed out the intelligent or self-aware.

^^^^ Case in point. Even if you thought you were all careful and thoughtful individuals, you're in a locked room where you're fed bullshit and half-truths for a week. Wipe the ink off yourself, stamp.

How many days do murder trials typically go on? 13 days and counting seems a bit long, to me. but i suppose, after being locked away in a cell for two years, getting out every day to see the court room has to feel good.

I think they originally estimated this case to be 4-6 weeks (including jury selection). It's now week five (including jury selection), and the prosecution hasn't even rested yet. If the defense goes, that could be another 2 weeks.

WRAL is notorious for convicting people in the court of public opinion.




I honestly think that that's one of the reasons court cases should not be shown in the media - reporters don't just report, their tone always takes the side of the prosecution and they begin to editorialize whether they mean to or not. How is a dude supposed to get a fair trial when all the media outlets ignore blatant ineptitude on the part of the prosecution and spin or remove facts? I mean, I realize that the jury members aren't allowed to read or see anything related to the trial, but if he gets off, there will be morons who watched the "news" who think that he's still guilty.

Is this trial open to the public? like could I go in person and watch some of the trial?

The gf and I have been watching it since yesterday...theres ZERO physical evidence against him.

the biggest thing we notice is how incompetent the Cary Police department is and was about all of this investigation. seems like the defense attorneys are really on point.

The biggest thing that stands out to us is why they didnt get measurements of boot prints by the body as well as the tire tracks. That crime scene was mishandled. It also appears that the home of the coopers was mistreated as well during this.

The man might not be innocent, but the way the cary police department and the state is handling this...theres not a DAMN thing that says he is for sure guilty.

Pretty much any court is open to the public unless the identity of someone involved needs to be protected. The only issue is seating. For instance, US Supreme Court oral arguments are open to the public, but IIRC there are only around 80 seats for the public in the chamber.
