definitely gettin into the swing of things now.. not unusual to be the last alive and the only one with some army to speak of. it's extremely nice when i get a random teammate that doesn't completely blow.
i still flippin hate void rays. if you're a toss player, for the love of everything, learn to use a different unit. 9/2/2010 9:38:57 PM |

Generally what you want are units that have low hp because it makes the void rays take a lot longer to get a charge. That's why a large group of marines is so good. So, for zerg, I'd say hydras are probably your best bet.9/2/2010 11:32:29 PM |
BigEgo Not suspended 24374 Posts user info edit post |
also, voids get bonus damage vs. armored, so you'd prefer to use something that isn't armored, although vikings can outrange voids
^yeah, hydras are best for zerg against voids, mutas don't do bad though.

Played with BigEgo tonight. We only got one in before I had to take a 2 hour phone call which screwed up my night.
We won our only game, I played pretty bad but he managed to bale me out.
Feel free to add me, on quite a bit and I'll play 2v2s or practice 1v1 whatever. 9/2/2010 11:42:19 PM |

I'm 90% sure I could be at least platinum just based on my stalker play haha
While he was on his phone call I played some 3v3s with a buddy of mine and his friend, went either 2-0 or 3-0, and stalkers prevail against almost everything.
Last game, TPP v TPZ. I scout on 9, place a proxy pylon in both the zergs base out of sight and the protoss. Zerg finds his with an overlord just before I get warp gates up, then they try to 3v1 my terran buddy, I send my zealots to his base, and start 4 gating the protoss. we stop their push on my teammate's base, and their reinforcements go to the protoss's base. I do a good bit of damage but they eventually stop that harassment. Macro up some, and then terran spots a spire going up in the zergs base, so we get a nice timing push to get in before he can get any mutas or anything. wipe that out, and get the gold expand too. macro up some more. they attack the gold just as the terran teammate was taking it. big force of thors, collusi, and immortals. i pull back in front of the terran's main, they take out the other protoss's expand, but by the time they get to the front of the main, we have enough forces to finally do some damage on them, wipe out the immortals/collusi, and most of the thors before they retreat. we then take complete map control again, i try out dts for the first time ever, buttt it was already over by that time. 9/2/2010 11:55:00 PM |

Yeah your stalker play is solid. I think we could do some damage in 2v2... was a decent set team we beat so not bad considering we never had played before.
Just had a nice 1v1 win vs. a decent diamond player(he was like 250 and 220.. a lot of damn games played). I always play random, pulled zerg against toss. Pretty long game, ended up with Ultras just out macroed him. I hate the zerg caster units so much. The corrupter is nice but he didn't go collosi so no point in getting them and infestors are functional but so damn slow and they are like giant walking turds so easy to target.
I can only play like 1 or 2 of these damn ladder 1v1s a night. To damn nerve racking. 9/3/2010 12:11:53 AM |

Scout, scout, scout. If you are getting to the point of lots of void rays it's probably already too late.
I usually play 1 base roach against protoss which means I'm in their base with roaches fairly early on, if they they are going void rays they won't have many ground forces (usually 4-6 zealots) and it's easy to do a lot of damage to their econ while the first void ray is trying to kill off the roaches. I also get 2 queens in case they try to bring the rays into my base, have them alternate spawn larvae and you can have two queens with +50 energy which easily handles a couples of void rays. If they live much longer than that I start bringing in hydras. They usually don't last more than 3-4 rays though.
If you play 1 base roach and see they are going 4 gate or 3 gate/robo it's pretty easy to expand and transition into roach/hydra.9/3/2010 2:27:04 AM |
BigEgo Not suspended 24374 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, 4 gate like 2 gate works best against fast expanding zergs. one base roach will give a 4 gater a lot of trouble 9/3/2010 4:59:42 AM |

so i just staretd playing and damn this si a lot different than SC1 as far as how things are carried out online. Do people normally attack in the first 5min now? How long do your games last. I'm 4/6 in the practice league right now but each one has been 30-60minutes. Is this normal? 9/3/2010 8:54:23 AM |

^Practice league games have a slower speed, plus more destructible rocks you have to break through to attack the enemy. That combined with a game full of new players usually means the games are played at a slower and less agressive pace.

BigEgo and I ended up playing a bunch of 2s last night.
I'm not going to say where we ended up placing because it was embarrassing but lets just say we got some work to do quickly. Once we got rolling we were much better but my protoss play was horrible all night for some reason which killed us, opposite terran which was respectable think we won all but one when I was terran. Only pulled zerg once. Might have to start picking my race in 2v2s, random just doesn't have the same advantage like it does in 1v1 in a 2s game if anything it is a disadvantage.
We lost a few games early when I tried to tech to fast like I would in a 1v1 and then we just got beat by an early attack. Then the one game we were expecting double MMM because the guys both opened with quick double barracks and then mid game banshee/thor/viking show up. Didn't expect it at all. Such a difference between ladder 2v2 and custom 2v2... 9/3/2010 12:20:55 PM |

Well, I'm finally learning to adapt.
Me Terran, him Toss.
He blocks my scout at the choke to his base using buildings just in time, so I built a few reapers, sent 'em up, and took out the mineral line. Shortly after, a ton of zealots showed up to kill them - which means he was on the way, but had to call them back.
So I know he's going ground in the near term.
So I rush two starports and tech up the cloak on Banshees, then get my Banshees going. He was also going Stalkers, but with no Observers, it was only a matter of time.
The thing is, we harassed each others mineral lines a lot, and I finally managed to group my SCVs to Group 9 (which I think I'll always do from now on) and REMEMBER that I had grouped them, so I could easily continue assaulting his base and also evacuate mine with no thought at all, when his desperation zealots showed up at the end.
The biggest thing is, when I saw those twelve Zealots take out my reapers at the beginning, I did not panic, even though I had only 7 marines at my base - instead, I managed to adapt. The second biggest thing was that I set up my groups and actually remembered to use them.

Well, there were 12 of them and they were micro-ed to surround. I mean, my only goal with those reapers was to kill the mineral line. I never cared if they got back out or not.
Actually I was hoping my opponent would think that I was preparing a reaper-type build - and that helped, because I was actually going banshees. 9/4/2010 12:10:53 AM |
JBaz All American 16764 Posts user info edit post |
I'm pretty good with Protoss; pretty good at micro-managing the base to be able to get my econ up fast, repel the first rush wave and do my first counter attack with a decent amount of forces in the first 5 mins. Usually if they rush, I can beat them easily, but I also assume for a long game play and start building up void rays or immortals, depending on what my teammate goes air or ground.
I suck as Terran and Zerg. I only play them if my teammates stack as Protoss.
Also, keep the list together guys:

I think the best use of reapers is to keep them alive after the first harass. If the enemy team knows there are reapers still alive they will play defensively the rest of the game and you can just keep them on a watch tower to take out expansions or do some late game harass.
Best part is once the protoss/zerg start making stalkers/roaches to counter reapers, you can just pump out marauders from the techlabbed barracks to counter. 9/5/2010 2:37:18 AM |
titans78 All American 4038 Posts user info edit post |
^ what you are describing is what I think the heart of where a lot of the OP terran complaints come from.
The best part of terran is how easy it is to show one thing, or go with one thing, and quickly create the counter to the counter if that makes sense.
So vs. zerg you go early reapers(which is the new thing to do tvz) and the defense against it is a roach/ling which is easily countered by marine/marauder and you can go into it seamlessly.
terran is the race that has the smoothest transitions and options. the other 2 races sometimes you have a plan and start going one way and have to pull a complete 180 depending on what your opponent does. Because of that terran always dictates the game. In order it goes terran, then toss, then zerg. Zerg never dictates the game, it is purely a reaction and expand race. Heck just the threat of air forces you to jump to tier 2. Toss can dictate the game a bit vs. terran at times but same idea, you see maybe a bioball type build, go colosi to counter, terran easily goes viking because they already had the starport for the medivac.
Anyway not going to complain to much because what I laid out above helps me win as much as it costs me playing random.

Probably not worth the money. People will repost the games/videos quickly after on places like youtube and VODs.
The lower quality steam is suppose to be free for the whole tournament, for a lot of people that is the only stream that worked. Tons of people paid money for the HQ stream and it didn't work but I guess they said they'll fix the issue for the remaining streams. Plus you'd have to be up at like 6AM to watch live.
