Quote : | "When it comes to 99.9 or any general talk about the NBA it seems like there's a lot of discussion now about player X, Y, or Z being better or worse than Lebron and how Lebron is inferior due to a lack of a championship ring (or rings). I have a hard time following that, since I figured getting a ring was more of a team accomplishment. Why don't people use league MVP awards or yearly/career averages in ppg, rebounds, etc. I just don't get why all the focus on rings as a means to judge an individual's performance." |
your point is well taken, especially in sports like baseball or football, however in basketball one player can make a bigger difference than either of the previous sports...so while guys like Karl Malone and Charles Barkley will always be great NBA players, they'll never be Jordan or Olajuwon or Kobe or Shaq
but also, this is a nation built on winning therefore we judge our athletes accordingly
and damn Wade is a whiny cunt when he's not getting the best officiating in the NBA]6/2/2011 10:02:35 PM |

because a great basketball player can affect a game way more than a great football or baseball player

wonder if Reddick is writing/has written a poem about Dirk's FT shooting
^true, but one great starting pitcher isn't going to singlehandedly win a 7-game series
one great starting pitching performance could allow a minor league baseball team to beat the Yankees though, whereas the best college football or bball teams would lose to the worst NFL/NBA teams 10 times out of 10

at least a great basketball player is going to affect every game of that series
a hockey goalie can certainly win a game with a 100% save percentage, i'll give you that
but basketball players play offense and defense...Tim Thomas isn't putting any points on the board for the Bruins

Imaginary foul on Chandler to give Lebron two points is going to end up being the difference in the game. As bad as Dallas is, hard to imagine them not being up 2-0 with fair officiating.
^Yankees is the team buying championships but this is a case of players buying championships.
