Player representative? I can't believe Renner can even form sentences after last years concussionfest of a season.

My boy on Facebook just posted the link about UNC having 4 all-acc players and said "I guess the state players were with Waldo when this list came out."

I told him its not hard when you send recruits that didn't pan out away on medical hardships to have good players. His response...

The graduation rate for the football team at unc was 75% last year. State was 56%.

He must have missed all the news about their academic flaws.

"Well since nobody even remotely close to that situation is still employed by the university then I guess it doesn't really matter what the degree is.the academic integrity at unc has not changed from its high stature but you can keep lying to yourself if you want to. Thats not gonna change anything. Over 60 of the students in those paticular courses that came under investigation were non-athletes anyway so to say they were just to help the sports teams is just a blod faced lie. Once again....anything to take the focus of lack of talent on the football team which is the only thing my post was about to begin with."

So this has me thinking...

If UNC is offering free courses for the rouge classes... Does that mean some of these people haven't graduated?

Nothing new, just funny:

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2013/08/17/4244081/real-life-events-at-unc-spawn.html

Quote :
"Rochelle knew he wanted his next Morel novel to involve brain-washing and mind-control techniques, but he needed bad guys. He found them in Chapel Hill, where the real-life scandal at North Carolina served as fodder for the book.

“The academic scandal just resonated with me, perhaps because I’ve taught in college” said Rochelle, a former junior-college professor.

...
...
For Rochelle, it wasn’t a giant leap from what’s going on at North Carolina.

“You look at point shaving, and then you look at what’s happening at UNC,” Rochelle said. “They’re very young, they don’t have much money, and they’re relying on a guy named ‘Fats’ who’s loaning them cars and such.

“My concern with them is, what do they want from the players? Is there a quid pro quo? Maybe you don’t score so much in the next game, or don’t make it 20 points, make it 10. I don’t know when you take that step if you’re a player or a gambler."

Looks like PP did some digging and found that multiple football players have pending court dates that the media never reported on, included 3 of their linebackers with pot charges. And a public urination.

It was brought to my attention by a local media intern that UNC has recently dealt with a rash of off the field arrests and violations within its football program. These arrests have largely gone unreported and ignored by the media, University officials and the UNC football coaching staff has refused to comment on the latest string of arrests. UNC SID this morning stated that as of today no players would be suspended for the upcoming thursday night game against South Carolina on ESPN. The players include:

Travis Hughes – Possess Drug Paraphernalia
Jack Tabb – Possess Marijuana, Speeding, Reckless Driving
Eric James Ebron – Fail to Report Accident, leaving scene
Tim Furr – Speeding, Expired registration
Dan Mastromatteo – OBT/ATT OBT Alc False DL, Posses MTBV/U-WN By 19/20 (Attempt to buy alcohol by 19/20 year old using a fake Driver's License)
Marquise Williams – Speeding
Joshua Broach – Urinate in Public

Hughes, Tabb, and Mastromatteo appear to face the most serious charges of the group. It also just happens that they make up the starting linebacker core for UNC, a group recently decimated by injuries. Larry Fedora has apparently decided that he can ill afford to suspend any of these players even if warranted for the opening game.

The standard penalty (unwritten rule) for first time marijuana offense across the country seems to be atleast a 1 game suspension. At some schools the penalty is 3 games or kicked off the time entirely based upon prior status of the player involved (previous failed drug tests etc). Recently Wake Forest and Ole Miss have kicked student athletes off the team for similar offenses.

UNC, an athletic program already riddled with scandal in both their football and men's basketball programs, have seemingly embraced the idea of becoming a RENEGADE athletic program. PJ Hairston with numerous arrests, rental cars from convicted felons, guns and weed, no problem! Football players with drug charges, no problem! Greg Little and Ty Lawson setting a sterling example of late also for future players. The "Carolina Way" has morphed into: Let's just pat them on the back and get them back on the field as soon as possible. Too **** with what anybody says. We play by our own rules at UNC. Southern Methodist, the Miami Hurricanes and Oklahoma Sooner's of the 80's are jealous of these Tar Heels. Just remember that when your watching C.O.C.K.S. vs CONVICTS on Thursday night.

lol thats great.

I can honestly say that as a State fan(and maybe this whole UNC mess has affected my views on integrity in sports) I would be super pissed if our coaches and AD were this weasel-y.

I mean they have to have been aware of these issues and were hoping they would never get brought up until the week before the Furman game.

If IC is allowing discussion of this topic, I am sure 80% of the posts in the associated thread are discussing Shadrach Thornton's attempted murder and State's indifference by suspending him one game.

This is a legitimate shot for UNC to act serious about their state of affairs. If they suspend these guys for USC then even I will admit that the culture there has ever so slightly begun to change. But I am sure that they know they will get away with anything and could care less what anyone else thinks.

What that town needs is an enema

I think UNC is numb now that their real face has been shown. They don't care enough anymore to have even the bottom line ethics that an athletic dept should have.

They could go in two different directions with that statement... raise the bar for student athletes or lower the bar for the students... or it's just another empty statement. I'm going with that.

New report. The actual thing is tl;dr but here's a summary. No revelations, more just on what should be done to "fix" things. Would be interesting if they actually went through cause it would make things difficult for them but it won't happen.

Unfortunately not a big deal. The only way this would receive extra punishment from the NCAA is if the money had come from a UNC slush fund.

Quote :
"HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. -- Investigators in North Carolina say a Georgia-based sports agent violated sports agent laws by providing more than $20,000 in cash and benefits to former Tar Heels receiver Greg Little in 2010.

In a search warrant unsealed this week, an agent with the Secretary of State's office said Little told investigators that Terry Watson of the Watson Sports Agency provided him with a monthly cash allowance of $2,200 in addition to travel expenses and other payments.

Little, now with the Cleveland Browns, also reimbursed former tutor Jenifer Wiley for expenses paid on his behalf with money received from Watson or a financial adviser, according to a probable cause affidavit in the June search warrant.

While the NCAA investigation is closed, authorities are still reviewing whether laws regulating sports agents were broken.

The warrant sought Wiley's financial records from January 2009 to December 2010. She was linked to academic misconduct violations involving several UNC football players during an NCAA investigation that began in 2010, as well as providing improper financial benefits to Little.

Her attorney, Joseph B. Cheshire V of Raleigh, didn't immediately return an email for comment Thursday.

Watson didn't immediately return a call from The Associated Press to his Marietta, Ga.-based office Thursday. In search warrants unsealed in March, investigators said Watson also made cash payments to former UNC defensive tackle Marvin Austin.

Little met with investigators in January and said he was "ready for this chapter of his life to be over and to get on with his life on a clean slate," according to the affidavit. During the interview, he said Wiley received several financial payments from Watson and forwarded them to Little.

Little was declared permanently ineligible by the NCAA for receiving improper benefits in October 2010, while Austin was dismissed from the team. Neither played all season and were among 14 Tar Heels that missed at least one game that year amid the NCAA probe.

The NCAA hit the program with a one-year bowl ban in March 2012 -- which kept the Tar Heels out of the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game last fall -- as well as a reduction of 15 scholarships over a three-year period and probation.

Both North Carolina and Georgia are among 42 states with laws regulating sports agents.

After her office launched its probe in summer 2010, North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall said the focus was not on athletes or schools but on the agents or anyone that provided athletes with items of value.

The state's Uniform Athletes Agents Act requires agents to register with Marshall's office and is designed to shield athletes from sports agents who would offer gifts to entice them to sign representation contracts.

It is a Class I felony to violate the law, meaning a maximum prison sentence of 15 months, and violations also could carry civil penalties of up to $25,000. Prosecution of the law is left to district attorneys in the locations where violations are alleged to have occurred.

Jim Woodall, the district attorney in Orange County where the university is located, didn't immediately return a call for comment Thursday afternoon."

how fucking horrible is NCAA's investigative process? So they glazed over this pretty major infraction and because their investigation is closed nothing will happen
